Objectives: Wastewater treatment plants typically produce a large volume of waste sludge. In this study, the conditioning and dewatering properties of a digested and thickened sludge from an industrial wastewater treatment plant were investigated in order to improve the dewaterbility of the sludge. Methods: Jar-tests and Buchner funnel tests were carried out to assess the conditioning and dewatering properties of a waste sludge. TTF (Time to Filter Test) and SRF (Specific Resistance to Filtration) were adopted as the indices of sludge dewaterbility. Results: The valuation indices influencing the dewaterbility of the waste sludge, including TTF, SRF, water contents, VS/TS ratio and turbidity, were measured. The TTF and SRF of the digested and thickened sludge were decreased to 40 sec, $3.43{\times}10^{12}$ m/kg, and 39 sec, $1.09{\times}10^{12}$ m/kg, respectively. Conclusions: The conditioner composed of natural inorganic materials turned out to be effective in the reduction of sludge water contents.
무선 멀티 미디어 서비스를 위한 하이브리드 호 접속 제어 알고리듬의 제안 및 평가

본 논문에서는 멀티 미디어 호의 QoS 를 개선하기 위한 하이브라드 방법의 호 정속 제어 알고리듬을 제안하고 채널 당 최대 할당 가능한 전력으로 채널할당여부를 결정하는 채널기반 알고리듬과의 성능을 비교 분석하고자 한다. 3세대의 멀티 미디어 서비스 네트워크의 초기단계에서는 서비스 커어리지가 작고 무선 링크의 용량이 제한되어 있다. 기지국과 같은 네트워크 요소를 초기에 대규모로 구축하는 곳은 사용자가 많은 지역에 한정되고 나머지 영역은 척은 수의 기지국으로 서비스를 제공하기 때문에 우선 채널 지원이 제한되어 있는 커버리지 네트워크를 이루게 된다. 서비스 영역의 전체에서 사용자가 증가하게 될 때 보다 많은 사용자를 수용하기 위해서는 대규모 네트워크 요소의 추가적인 구축이 요구되므로 정진적인 네트워크 인프라 구축을 위해 기존의 구축된 우선 네트워크 자원의 효율척인 사용이 요구된다. 이 같은 상황 하에서 제안된 하이브리드 방법은 인접 기지국의 우선 채널 자원을 효율적으로 사용함으로써 용량 네트워크로 이행하는 단계에서 멀티 마디어 서비스의 QoS 의 열화를 완화 시킬 수 있다. The call admission control algorithm of hybrid scheme is proposed to enhance the QoS(quality of service) of attempted multimedia calls. In the initial stage of 3rd generation multimedia services networks, the major limitations include the small sefyice coverage and the limited radio link capacity. Because the initial massive deployment of network elements such as base stations, base station controllers, and mobile switching centers is restricted to populated areas and the other areas should be covered with the fewer network elements, the radio channel resources are hmited and coverage network is supposed to be established. Therefore the QoS of multimedia services is expected to be severely degraded when tentative traffic hot spot occurs frequently. Thus, the blocking probability of attempted calls mcreases when relatively large number of users try to place multimedia calls in a hot spot area of the wireless networks. In this situation, the proposed hybrid scheme can mitigate the degradation of the QoS of multimedia services by using the available radio channels of the neighboring cells.
습식 마늘박피 시스템 개발 (III) - 미생물 제어 시스템의 도입 -

An efficient microbial control system was introduced into a garlic peeling system using pressurized water in order to improve the quality and the shelf-life of peeled garlic. High microbial density of the spoiled peeled garlic and the water used for peeling and washing indicated that an efficient microbial control system is necessary far the peeling system. Though Pseudomonas spp. and Penicillium spp. were closely related to the spoilage of peeled garlic, the spoilage of peeled garlic was thought to be caused mainly by nonspecific increase in microbial density. The shelf-life of the garlic peeled by pressurized water was longer than that of the garlic peeled by pressurized air, and the degree of damage had great effect on the shelf-life of peeled garlic. Ozonated water was effective in decreasing the microbial contamination and in increasing the shelf-life of peeled garlic. Based on the findings of the study, following improvements were made to the garlic peeling system using pressurized water; 1) the water circulation system was modified in order to completely separate the water for washing from the water for garlic peeling, 2) filtration and cooling equipments were introduced into the circulation system of the water for peeling, and 3) an ozone generator which could continuously supply ozonated water (dissolved ozone concentration of 0.4 ppm) was attached to the circulation system of the water for washing.

Development of a program for transient behavior simulation of heavy-duty gas turbines

In this study, a program for analyzing the transient behaviors of heavy-duty gas turbines was developed. Focus was given to simulating a practical load-following operation. A distinct feature of our work is that all of the gas turbine components are modularized to enhance the expandability of the program. We used object-oriented programing for this purpose. Mass and energy balances and performance maps for the compressor and turbine were used for the modeling, and a multivariable numerical solving technique was used to enhance the numerical stability. The fundamental thermodynamic modeling of the program was validated by comparison of the transient response of a simulated gas turbine with that of a commercial program. PID control was adopted for simultaneous control of the rotational shaft speed and turbine exhaust temperature by the modulations of the fuel flow and the opening of the compressor inlet guide vane at the same time. The influence of the magnitude of load change and ramp rate was investigated. Stable control of the gas turbine was possible, even for a very rapid change of load.
