MOTIVICITY OF THE MIXED HODGE STRUCTURE OF SOME DEGENERATIONS OF CURVES
Vol.47 No.3
We consider a degeneration of genus 2 curves, which is opposite to maximal degeneration in a sense. Such a degeneration of curves yields a variation of mixed Hodge structure with monodromy weight filtration. The mixed Hodge structure at each fibre, which is different from the limit mixed Hodge structure of Schmid and Steenbrink, can be realized as H1 of a noncompact singular elliptic curve. We also prove that the pull back of the above variation of mixed Hodge structure to a double cover of the base space comes from a family of noncompact singular elliptic curves.
IDENTITIES ARISING FROM GAUSS SUMS FOR SYMPLECTIC AND ORTHOGONAL GROUPS
Vol.47 No.2
We express Gauss sums for symplectic and orthogonal groups over finite fields as averages of exponential sums over certain maximal tori. Together with our previous results, we obtain some interesting identities involving various classical Gauss and Kloosterman sums.

Background Building on the colloquial misunderstanding of South Korean album cover designs from 1994 to 2002 as mimicking American and Japanese visual styles, this paper examines the social, historical, economic, and technological contexts of that period. By expanding the design context to include political, economic, and technological dimensions, this research considers these factors as influential forces in the design process. The forces of globalization created a cycle of influence and export that shaped the design of this period. Methods To identify the problem of album cover design and image productions from the period of 1994 to 2002 as imitations, historical research was conducted alongside a thorough examination of the development of the K-pop music industry during this period. The research was then organized into three distinct impact factors that influenced K-pop album cover design and image production: 1) sociopolitical and economic factors, 2) influence on and of the K-pop music industry, and 3) technological change and the impact of the digital marketplace. A cultural research approach was taken in order to connect broader factors to the process of designing album covers and creating images for the K-pop industry. Results The results of this study create a holistic picture of the forces at work in the development of the K-pop music industry during the time period of 1994 to 2002. When considering the infrastructure of the K-pop music industry as a system of cultural production, album cover design and image production are heavily affected by the impact factors outlined in the research. The research reveals the push and pull of globalizing forces where the K-pop industry received influence from the United States and Japan, then exported its globalized image abroad to the rest of Asia. Conclusions This research allows for a deeper understanding of album cover design and image production as integral facets of the K-pop music industry. The study explains the specific influences, particularly from African American and Japanese sources, that shaped the industry as a system, as well as the resulting designs and images of artists. The conclusive aim of this research is to expand the scholarship on K-pop to include design and image production as significant areas of research.
Equidistribution of higher dimensional generalized Dedekind sums and exponential sums
Vol.57 No.4
We consider generalized Dedekind sums in dimension $n$, defined as sum of products of values of periodic Bernoulli functions. For the generalized Dedekind sums, we associate a Laurent polynomial. Using this, we associate an exponential sum of a Laurent polynomial to the generalized Dedekind sums and show that this exponential sum has a nontrivial bound that is sufficient to fulfill the equidistribution criterion of Weyl and thus the fractional part of the generalized Dedekind sums are equidistributed in $\FR/\FZ$.
Vol.- No.40
The K-pop music industry has had global success on many levels, but notably it has shown increasing physical album sales that appears to counter media trends. The photo card is a unique part of the physical album package sold by K-pop groups and their record labels. The photo card has become an incredibly successful merchandising product within the K-pop music industry, motivating feverish consumption amongst fans. This presents a peculiar phenomenon within the music industry, which continues to struggle to motivate profitable physical album sales. This study attempts to explore the symbolic significance of photo cards within the K-pop product infrastructure and shed light on the motivations of fans in collecting photo cards. To examine this subject, the research applies the Actor Network Theory as a method to examine the material culture of K-pop merchandise, and the particular behaviors that fans exhibit when collecting photo cards.
