        Cause of Death in Korean Men with Prostate Cancer: an Analysis of Time Trends in a Nationwide Cohort

        Despite rapid increase in incidence of prostate cancer (PC) and PC survivors, there are few studies regarding competing causes of death and time trends in Asian population. We conducted a cohort study of 2% nationwide random sample of Korean National Health Insurance employees. A total of 873 patients who had received active treatments, including surgery, radiation therapy (RT) and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), for newly diagnosed PC between 2003 and 2010 were included. The cause of death was categorized as PC, other cancers, cardiovascular disease, and other causes. During a median follow-up of 4.75 years, 29.4% (257/873) of the study population died. PC, other cancers, cardiovascular disease, and other causes were responsible for 46.3%, 35.4%, 6.6%, and 11.7%, respectively, of the decedents. Significant differences existed in the cause of death among treatment groups (P < 0.001). Only 20% and 9.5% of surgery and RT group died of PC, whereas 63.9% of ADT group died of PC. Other cancers were responsible for 56%, 74.6% and 17.8% of death in the surgery, RT and ADT group, respectively, while cardiovascular disease accounted for 4%, 6.3%, and 7.1% of death in the treatment groups. Analysis of time trends showed that PC-specific death tended to decrease (from 42.9% in 2003 to 23.1% in 2010), whereas non-PC causes tended to increase over the 8 years. Our results are valuable in overviewing causes of death and time trends in Korean PC patients, and planning future health policy for PC.

        Measurement of Knee Morphometrics Using MRI: A Comparative Study between ACL-Injured and Non-Injured Knees

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the differences of distal femur morphology between the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-injured and the non-ACL injured on an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the difference of bone structure by gender. Materials and Methods: MRI Measurements of notch width (NW), bicondylar width (BCW), medial condyle width (MCW), lateral condyle width (LCW), medial-to-lateral condyle ratio (M:L ratio), and notch entrance width (NE) were taken from 120 subjects with ACL injury and the other 106 subjects without ACL injury, by three independent observers, at two different times. The measured values from MRI figures between the ACL-injured and the non-ACL-injured were compared and analyzed, with consideration of the differences by gender. Both intra and inter-observer reliability were calculated. Results: There were significant differences of NW, BCW, MCW, LCW and NE by gender (p<0.001). While NW and MCW in male group were different (p<0.001), NW, MCW, M:L ratio and NW index (NWI) in female group were significantly different (p<0.001) in the bone morphology between the ACL-injured and non-ACL-injured. The intra- and inter-observer reliability was satisfying. Conclusions: If necessary to take an MRI, female patients with small NWI and NW injury should be carefully treated because of possibility of ACL injuries.

        This paper presents Si anisotropic ethcing characteristics in TMAH/JPA solution with addition of pyrazine Addition of IPA to TMAH solution, etching characteristics that the flatness of etching front was improved and undercutting was reduced were exhibited, but the etching rate of (100) Si was decreased. (100) Si etching rate of 0.747 ㎛/min which faster 52 % than pure TMAH 25 wt.% solution was obtained using TMAH 25 wt.%/IPA 17 vol.%/pyrazine 0.1 g and the etching rate of (100) Si was decreased with more additive quantity of pyrazine. Addition of pyrazine to TMAH 25 wt.% solution, the flatness variations of etching front was not observed and undercutting ratio was reduced about 30 ~ 50 %.

      • Li₂ZrO₃계의 CO₂반응에 따른 전기적 성질

        A carbon dioxide gas sensor was studied as a function of temperature and CO₂concentration In the Li₂ZrO₃ system. Lithium zirconatet(Li₂ZrO₃) was synthesized by the heat-treatment of zirconia(ZrO₂) and Lithium carbonate(Li₂ZrO₃). The specimens were prepared both as bulk disks. 10mm in diameter and 1.0mm thickness, and thick films on an alumina substrate. Lithium zirconate readily responded to CO₂ concentration from 0.1% to 100% in the range of 450℃ to 650℃. The sensitivity to CO₂ was dependent on the measuring temperature. Lithium zirconate(Li₂ZrO₃) decomposes into Li₂ZrO₃ and ZrO₂ after the reaction with CO₂ in the range of 450℃ to 650℃, and Li₂ZrO₃ changes into Li₂O and CO₂ above 650℃. The material showed difficulty with reversibility and recovery. The optimum temperature for the highest sensitivity is around 550℃.

      • Seol-Gel법에 의한 CO 감지용 SnO₂센서 특성

        Ultra-fine particles of SnO₂was synthersized by the sol-gel powder processing using tin(Ⅱ) chloride dihydrate(SnCl₂·2H₂O) and ethanol(C₂H_(5)OH) as raw materials. Gel powders can be obtained by drying of sol at 120℃ after aging 72hrs and 168hrs. The amount of SnO₂phase was increased with temperature because of the evaporation of volatile components, and the creation of SnO₂phase was almost done by the heat treatment at 700℃/30min. The grain sizes after firing are about 20-30nm, and it showed the narrow distribution of grain size. The specimens to measure electrical properties were fabricated by the thick film screen printing technique on the alumina substrates. The conductance of SnO₂was increased with temperature up to 380℃ by the typical conduction mechanism of semiconducting ceramics. There was a region of constant conductance between about 200℃ and 380℃ due to the increment of electron concentration with temperature and the annihilation of conduction carriers by the absorption and electron trapped-ionization of oxygen on the surface of SnO₂, It was finally showed the intrinsic behaviors above 450℃. The sensing properties of response time, recovery, and sensitivity of CO were improved with aging time.

      • NiCr 박막의 열처리에 따른 표면미세조직 및 저항특성

        NiCr thin films were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering on Al_(2)O_(3)/Si substrate with NiCr(80:20) alloy target. NiCr thin films were annealed at 300℃, 400℃, 500℃, 600℃, 700℃ for 6hr in H, respectively after annealing at 500℃ for 6hr in air ambient. The characteristics fo NiCr thin films such as changes of micro structure and formation, surface properties, resistance and generation of heat were analyzed as functions of annealing temperature and ambient. The analysises of NiCr thin films were investigated through FESEM(Fie1d Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). Resistance of NiCr thin films were measured by four point prove technique.

        Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate changes in the cervical and lumbar flexion-relaxation ratio, range of motion, pressure pain threshold, and perceived comfort following the wearing of a trunk brace during smartphone watching. Methods: To calculate the number of subjects for this study, an analysis with G<sup>*</sup>Power was performed at a statistical power of 0.8, an effect size of 0.5, and a significance level of 0.05, based on the results of a preliminary experiment on five subjects. In total, 27 adult men and women were recruited who had been informed of the study's purpose and process and had agreed to participate. All subjects watched content on a smartphone for 20 minutes in the same posture and conditions while wearing and not wearing a trunk brace, and then their cervical and lumbar flexion-relaxation ratio, range of motion, pressure pain threshold, and perceived comfort were measured. Results: Compared to the non-wearing of a trunk brace, the wearing of a trunk brace resulted in a statistically significant smaller decline in cervical extension and right-side cervical rotation (p<0.05). When the subjects wore a trunk brace, their right- and left-side cervical and right-side lumbar pressure pain statistically significantly improved when compared to not wearing a trunk brace (p<0.05). They also perceived a significantly lowered level of comfort 20 minutes after wearing a trunk brace compared to immediately after wearing it (p<0.05). Conclusion: The trunk brace was effective in reducing declines in right-side cervical rotation and the occurrence of left- and right-side cervical and right-side lumbar pressure pain. The findings indicate the need to improve the perceived comfort of trunk braces.
