Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH)/polycyclic aromatic sulfur heterocycles (PASH) and nitrogen containing polycyclic aromatic compounds(NPAC) were investigated in air-borne particulates of Seoul metropolitan area. The samples were fractionated by alumina column chromatography and cleaned by gel filtration using Biobead. These fractions were chromatographed in a fused silica capillary column coated with SE-54(25m×0.03mmi.d.). Nineteen compounds of PAH/PASH and 8 compounds of NPAC were identified according to retention index system, and 10 compounds were further confirmed by GC/MS data. The concentrations were relatively lower compared with previously reported data. It was considered due to photodegradation during long period of sample collection by means of deposit gauge.

This paper presents a parallel combinatorial variant of evolution strategy (PCES) to solve well-known combinatorial optimization problems, Quadratic assignment problems (QAPs). The PCES reduces the possibility of getting stuck in local minima due to maintenance of subpopulation and thus it is more effective than the CES. Experiment results on two benchmark problems show that the PCES is better than the cES and the genetic algorithm(GA).

The authors diagnosed a 33 years old female as benign lymphoepithelial lesion after undergoing clinical, radiological and histopathological examinations and the characteristics were as follows: 1. Clinically, the patient complained of painless bilateral swelling of the parotid glands and dryness of the palate. Rheumatoid factor was detected in her serum. 2. Sialograms showed punctate or globular collections of contrast media distributed evenly throughout the parotid glands in so-called "cherry blossom"or "leafless fruit-laden tree" appearance. 3. A salivary gland scan showed no uptake of radioisotopes by the parotid glands. 4. At Tl-weighted imaging of PNS MRI, the lesions had the same signal intensity as the rest of the gland. At t2-weighted imaging, the lesions could be seen as high signal intensity 1.3 cm and 2.1 cm in diameter in the left and the right parotid gland respectively. 5. Ultrasonogram showed sonolucent lesions 20×15mm and 17×14mm in size in the lower part of the left parotid gland and another 18×11mm in size in the lower part of the parotid gland as well as many other small sonolucent lesions. 6. Histopathologically, lymphocytic infiltration replacing the normal acini and lymphoid follicles containing germinal centers could be seen. Epimyoepithelial islands were scattered throughout the lesion and benign lymphoepithelial cysts were also observed.

Volatile ginseng flavor Components were obtained from the manufacturing process of ginseng extract. Flavor components were separated by fused silica capillary column coated with SE-52. Individual components were identified by means of GC/MS system. Twenty six compounds were identified as esters, ethers, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenoids. Some of them were β-pinene, isobutyl propionate, 2-isopropyl-5-methyl anisole, β-maaliene, α-guaiene, and β-elemene.
