        Adsorption of desflurane by the silica gel filters in breathing circuits: an in vitro study

        Background: During general anesthesia, a heated breathing circuit (HBC) is used to replace the heat and moisture exchange function of the upper airway. One HBC uses an air dryer filter that employs silica gel (SG) as a desiccant. SG is capable of adsorbing many organic compounds. Therefore, we undertook an in vitro study of the adsorption of desflurane by SG filters. Methods: An HBC was connected to an anesthesia machine, and a test lung was connected to the circuit. The test lung was mechanically ventilated with 2 or 4 L/min of fresh gas flow, with and without the air dryer filter. Desflurane was administered at a 6 vol% on the vaporizer dial setting. The experiment was repeated 15 times in each group. The end-tidal concentrations were measured during the experiments. The air dryer filter weights were measured before and after the experiments, and the times required to achieve the specific end-tidal desflurane concentrations were determined. Results: Significant differences in the end-tidal concentrations of desflurane were observed between the control and filter groups (P < 0.001). The filter weights increased significantly after the experiments (P < 0.001). The times required to achieve the same end-tidal desflurane concentrations were different with the application of the air dryer filter (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The adsorption of desflurane with the use of an air dryer filter was verified in this in vitro study. Careful attention is needed when using air dryer gel filters during general anesthesia.

Local self goveronment and physical education something in common; both sides can be development when demolition take deep roots in the Korean soil and a very energetic participation of local resident, also have for development purpose of local society and social welfare. Physical education in these days of local self-government will gives us health, welfare, the spirit of unify and acceleration of concord, step up the production, improvement of self-generation in local society. Therefore first. For development purpose of physical education must offer aid to physical education in school, mass sports and elite sports. Secondly, must develop into program, leader facilities of sports, Lastly, exert all efforts to have connccted with local and the administration.

        Volume-controlled versus pressure-controlled ventilation-volume guaranteed mode during one-lung ventilation

        Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in airway pressure and arterial oxygenation between ventilation modes during one-lung ventilation (OLV) in patients undergoing thoracic surgery. Methods: We enrolled 27 patients for thoracic surgery with OLV in the lateral decubitus position. The subjects received various modes of ventilation in random sequences during surgery, including volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and pressure-controlled ventilation-volume guaranteed (PCV-VG) with a tidal volume (TV) of 8 ml/kg of actual body weight. Target-controlled infusion (TCI) with propofol and remifentanil was used for anesthesia induction and maintenance. After double-lumen endobronchial tube (DLT) insertion, the proper positioning of the DLT was assessed using a fiberoptic bronchoscope. Peak inspiratory pressure (Ppeak), exhaled TV, and arterial blood gas were measured 30 min after each ventilation mode. Results: Ppeak was significantly reduced with the PCV-VG mode (19.6 ± 2.5 cmH2O) compared with the VCV mode (23.2 ± 3.1 cmH2O) (P < 0.000). However, no difference in arterial oxygen tension was noted between the groups (PCV-VG, 375.8 ± 145.1 mmHg; VCV, 328.1 ± 123.7 mmHg) (P = 0.063). The exhaled TV was also significantly increased in PCV-VG compared with VCV (451.4 ± 85.4 vs. 443.9 ± 85.9 ml; P = 0.035). Conclusions: During OLV in patients with normal lung function, although PCV-VG did not provide significantly improved arterial oxygen tension compared with VCV, PCV-VG provided significantly attenuated airway pressure despite significantly increased exhaled TV compared with VCV.

      • 복싱선수의 체중감량시 혈액성분 변화에 관한 연구

        The study was to investigate the changes of blood components during progressive bodyweight reduction in boxers. The subjects were belong to be in College Caliber elite boxers. As the results of the experiment, conclutions were made as follows: It was shown that most of tested items after bodyweight reduction were increased than before bodyweight reduction, especially plasma potassium was significantly increased with 4 per cent of bodyweight reduction. In case of 6 per cent of bodyweight reduction, it was shown that the same tendency with 4 per cent of bodyweight reduction, but the increasing tendency of plasma potassium was reduced, inversely plasma sodium and hemoglobin were more increased, 14 per cent of plasma sodium and 22 per cent of hemoglobin. In terms of lactic acid, it was revealed that lactic acid accumulation was reached 58.3mg% after three round matches, and mean heart rate was 182 b/min during the match. In accordance with this experimental results, it was revealed that there was significant difference among the subjects, and it could be recommonded that the limitation of bodyweight reduction should be prescribed individually.

        It is to study on the effect of athlete's personality on a mass living of students sho attend at Korean National college of P.E. This mass is not merely selected among specialist on the way of procedure of advanced study from high school to college, but is simultaneously determined al to live dormitory as soon as enter the school. With the result of this study can be revealed that it effect to per-sonality formation on a mass living in a desirable direction, on the contrary, a mass living as environmental condition of living effects as undesirable factor of obstacles. 1) In the sight of personality and changing tendency of all students, emotional, stability, adjustment to reality and leadership were insufficient, but family relation, adjustment to reality, leadership were marked better than past near cosing to the graduation. 2) In an excellent skilled-group that have one who had experience the win in the international game and contest for National representative competitor. It is pointed higher total mean value on the conformity, adjustment to realty, modd in the beginning of school, but is prominently improved on family realtions and adjustment to reality than past. 3) In the case of high school of physical education there's alomost no change on the emotional stability and social realations. It si believed that this indication is due to enclose the same environment in present and past. 4) In the aspect of each party's character it generally marked impriving of adjustment to reality and it had showed a lower tendency through general personality factors than entrance time on Boxing, Swimming, Badminton party. 5) It is changed into desirable direction on family relations and adjustment to reality durring 4 year of a mass living pattern a domitory, and on the contrary, scocial relations, mod, and stability are showed a span of changing. 6) It is believed the tendency of assimilation is to indicate some factors changed throughout the same environmental condition.

        Hypotensive bradycardic events during shoulder arthroscopic surgery under interscalene brachial plexus blocks

        Sudden, profound hypotensive and bradycardic events (HBEs) have been reported in more than 20% of patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy in the sitting position. Although HBEs may be associated with the adverse effects of interscalene brachial plexus block (ISBPB) in the sitting position, the underlying mechanisms responsible for HBEs during the course of shoulder surgery are not well understood. The basic mechanisms of HBEs may be associated with the underlying mechanisms responsible for vasovagal syncope, carotid sinus hypersensitivity or orthostatic syncope. In this review, we discussed the possible mechanisms of HBEs during shoulder arthroscopic surgery, in the sitting position, under ISBPB. In particular, we focused on the relationship between HBEs and various types of syncopal reactions, the relationship between HBEs and the Bezold-Jarisch reflex, and the new contributing factors for the occurrence of HBEs, such as stellate ganglion block or the intraoperative administration of intravenous fentanyl.

      • Stabilization of carbonic anhydrase for efficient capture of carbon dioxide via corynebacterium cell display

        Mineral carbonation is the most effective carbon capture technique, but the reaction is too slow for industrial applications. Therefore, highly efficient biocatalyst, carbonic anhydrases (CAs), have been widely studied for CO2 capture. Unfortunately, their practical uses are restricted by their poor stability and high cost. Here we introduced a new biological platform for the stabilization of CA using cell display. Neisseria gonorrhoeae CA (ngCA) was displayed on the mycolic layer of Corynebacterium glutamicum via genetic modification using an anchoring protein porinB with a triplet of a G4S linker. This whole-cell catalyst maintained the activity to 60% after 24 h of the incubation at 60°C,while the activity of commercial CA dropped to below 10%. We expect that Corynebacterium display is a promising approach to achieve a thermally stable and economic enzymatic system for CO2 capture.
