The Relationship of Male Infertility with Somatosensory Amplification, Health Anxiety and Depression Levels

        Ü,nal Ö,ztekin,Yunus Hacimusalar,Abdullah Gü,rel,Ozgul Karaaslan 대한신경정신의학회 2020 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.17 No.4

Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between infertility and factors such as anxiety, health anxiety, depression, and somatosensory amplification in male patients presenting with infertility. Methods In this study, we evaluated 198 patients (infertile group: 130, control group: 68). Patients that fit the inclusion criteria were informed about the aim and method of the study and filled out sociodemographic data collection form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), The Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), and Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI) questionnaires. Results The mean scores for SSAS, HAI, BAI, and BDI were significantly higher in the infertility group compared to the control group (p<0.001 for all comparisons). Moreover, the mean scores of the patients in the primary infertile group (n=107) were significantly higher than in the secondary infertile group (n=23) (p<0.05 for all comparisons). Logistic regression analysis revealed that infertility had a significant effect on age, HAI and BDI. Conclusion Psychiatric evaluation of infertile patients may contribute to more efficient use of health services, may reduce the negative effects of anxiety and depression on fertility, and in turn, increase the success of infertility treatment. Therefore, we recommend that each patient presenting with infertility undergoes psychiatric evaluation as part of their treatment.

A curved shell finite element for the geometrically non-linear analysis of box-girder beams curved in plan

        Ü lkü H. Çalık-Karaköse,Engin Orakdöğen,Ahmet I. Saygun,Harm Askes 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.2

A four-noded curved shell finite element for the geometrically non-linear analysis of beams curved in plan is introduced. The structure is conceived as a sequence of macro-elements (ME) having the form of transversal segments of identical topology where each slice is formed using a number of the curved shell elements which have 7 degrees of freedom (DOF) per node. A curved box-girder beam example is modelled using various meshes and linear analysis results are compared to the solutions of a well-known computer program SAP2000. Linear and non-linear analyses of the beam under increasing uniformly distributed loads are also carried out. In addition to box-girder beams, the proposed element can also be usedin modelling open-section beams with curved or straight axes and circular plates under radial compression. Buckling loads of a circular plate example are obtained for coarse and successively refined meshes andresults are compared with each other. The advantage of this element is that curved systems can be realistically modelled and satisfactory results can be obtained even by using coarse meshes.

Immobilization of Laccase onto Polyethyleneimine Grafted Chitosan Films:Effect of System Parameters

        Aysegül Ü. Metin 한국고분자학회 2013 Macromolecular Research Vol.21 No.10

Chitosan films were prepared via phase-inversion technique. The polyethyleneimine (PEI) was grafted onto chitosan films after activation with various agents, such as epichlorohydrin, genipin and glutaraldehyde. The PEI grafted activated chitosan films (Ch-g-PEI) were used for immobilization of laccase by adsorption. The effects of adsorption parameters on immobilization efficiency were researched. Activity and stability of immobilized laccase on Ch-g-PEI films were investigated under desired optimum conditions. Characterization studies of the supports were also performed. The effect of pH on the activity of free and immobilized laccase was carried out in the pH range 4.0-8.0, and the optimum pH was determined as 5.5. Kinetic constants of the free and immobilized laccase were calculated. The maximum activity (Vmax) and Michealis constant (Km) of immobilized laccase on the films were found to be 71.2U/mg and 0.51 mM, respectively. Thermal stability of the enzyme increased together with immobilization on the support. Free laccase retained 39% of its original activity at 55 oC for a 120 min incubation period. Immobilized laccase retained 72% of its original activity for the same period at 55 oC. The free enzyme lost all of its activity during the 7 weeks storage period. Conversely, immobilized laccase lost 36% of its activity during the 7 weeks storage period.

Immobilization Studies and Biochemical Properties of Free and Immobilized Candida Rugosa Lipase onto Hydrophobic Group Carrying Polymeric Support

        Aysegül Ü. Metin 한국고분자학회 2013 Macromolecular Research Vol.21 No.2

In this study, the hydrophobic group carrying support was prepared for the immobilization of Candida rugosa lipase through the reversible adsorption method. Epoxy groups containing poly(glycidyl methacrylate-methyl methacrylate-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (poly(GMA-MMA-EGDMA)) beads were synthesized by suspension polymerization, and the reactive epoxy groups of poly(GMA-MMA-EGDMA) beads were treated with ammonia while glutaraldehyde was used as a coupling agent. After the L-hydrophobic ligand phenylalanine amino acid was covalently attached on the activated polymeric matrix, the lipase enzyme was immobilized. The immobilization efficiency as a function of adsorption parameters was characterized. The maximum lipase immobilization capacity of the poly(GMA-MMA-EGDMA) beads was 68.25 mg/g. The activities of the free and immobilized enzymes were investigated in the hydrolysis reaction of olive oil. The activities of the free and the immobilized lipases were measured at different pH values and temperatures, and their thermal and storage stabilities were also determined. The optimum pH for immobilized lipase was 6.0, which was the same for free enzymes. In this pH value, the retained activity of immobilized lipase was 91.84%. The optimum activity temperatures of free and immobilized lipases were determined as 35 and 45 oC, respectively. The optimum temperature for the lipase immobilized on the hydrophobic group carrying matrix was 10 oC higher and it demonstrated activity in a broader temperature range than that of the free enzyme. The immobilized lipase had better resistance to temperature inactivation than the free form. The free enzyme lost all of its activity during the 28 days storage period, while immobilized lipase lost 34% of its activity during the 56 days storage period.

Nesfatin-1 Hormone Levels in Patients with Antisocial Personality Disorder and Their Relationship with Clinical Variables

        ü,heda Kaya,Filiz Ö,zsoy,Gü,lay Tas¸cı,Mehmet Kalaycı 대한신경정신의학회 2020 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.17 No.9

Objective This study aims to investigate the levels of nesfatin-1-hormone in patients with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) and their relationship with clinical variables. Methods A total of 90 people (45 ASPD, 45 controls) were included in our study. Sociodemographic Data Form, Beck-Depression-Inventory (BDI), Beck-Anxiety-Inventory (BAI), Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11), Buss-Durkee-Hostility-Inventory (BDHI) were applied to all participants. Venous blood samples were taken from participants at the same time of the day when they were hungry. Results It was found that the BDI and BAI scores of the ASPD were higher than those of the controls (p<0.001, for both scales). The scores in BIS-11; motor and nonplanning-impulsivity subscales were higher than those of the controls (p<0.001, 0.036, respectively). The scores obtained by the ASPD were higher in all subscales of BDHI (p<0.001). For the nesfatin-1-hormone, the values of the ASPD were lower than those of the controls (p=0.044). No relationship was found between the nesfatin-1-hormone and any other laboratory parameters and applied scales (p>0.05). Conclusion This is the first study to examine the nesfatin-1-hormone levels in patients with any personality disorder. Further studies with more participants are needed in different types of personality disorders to understand the relationship between personality disorder and nesfatin-1-hormone levels.

Effects of PEDOT:PSS and crystal violet interface layers on current-voltage performance of Schottky barrier diodes as a function of temperature and variation of diode capacitance with frequency

        Deniz A.R.,Taş A.İ.,Çaldıran Z.,İncekara Ü.,Biber M.,Aydoğan Ş.,Türüt A. 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.39 No.-

In this study, diode applications of Crystal Violet (CV) and PEDOT materials were studied. The Ni/p-Si/Al, Ni/CV/p-Si/Al and Ni/PEDOT:PSS/CV/p-Si/Al diodes were fabricated. The I–V (current-voltage) characteristics of all diodes were analyzed at room temperature, it was determined that the PEDOT:PSS and CV materials improved the basic diode parameters. Also, I–V characteristics of Ni/PEDOT:PSS/CV/p-Si/Al of diode were investigated for different temperature values. It has been determined that the basic diode parameters are strongly dependent on temperature. It was determined that while the barrier height (Φb) increased with increasing temperature, the ideality factor (n) and the series resistance (Rs) values decreased. Using temperature-dependent measurements, it was determined that the potential barrier and ideality factor values at the contact interface has a double Gaussian distribution. In addition, C–V (capacitance-voltage) measurements of these diodes were analyzed depending on the frequency. It was found that the diode capacitance decreased with increasing frequency.
