Space-resolved vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectroscopy using a 3-m normal incidence spectrometeris utilized to measure the impurity emission profile in the edge and divertor plasmas of theLarge Helical Device (LHD). It measures the vertical profile of VUV lines emitted in the wavelengthrange of 300 − 3200 °A. CII, CIII, CIV, and CV lines emitted from carbon ions are successfully measured, and their ion temperatures are derived from the Doppler broadening. Vertical profiles ofthe emission intensity and the ion temperature are measured simultaneously for the CIV line. Theemission intensity profile, which has several peak structures, is reasonably explained by consideringthe relation between the C3+ ion distribution and the geometry used for the observations.
Skin Permeation Enhancement of Drugs by Lipophilic and Hydrophilic Vehicles
Lee, Cheon-Koo,Goto, Shigeru The Korean Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences and 1995 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.25 No.3
The in vitro skin permeability of 16 drugs with a wide span of lipophilicity (log P ranging from -0,95 to 4.40) was evaluated with an ethanol/panasate 800 (tricaprylin, P-800) (40/60) lipophilic binary vehicle and an ethanol/water (60/40) hydrophilic binary vehicle with lauric acid, The skin permeability of the drugs was enhanced by the use of the ethanol/P-800 (40/60) binary vehicle or the ethanol/water (60/40) binary vehicle with lauric acid; permeation rate was increased and lag time' was decreased. The relationship between lipophilicity and skin permeation rate of the drugs showed parabolic shapes with their peaks at much greater hydrophilic range compared with other past references. In the in vivo skin absorption of theophylline using abdominal rat skin, the ethanol/P-800 (40/60)-7% (w/w) ethycellulose gel produced a good feature as a sustained-release preparation, and the ethanol/water (60/40)-3 % (w/w) HPMC gel with lauric acid showed the highest BA value. The results suggest that the lipophilicity of a drug is a main factor for prediction of the skin permeability of the drug and that the ethanol/P-800 (40/60) binary vehicle and ethanol/water (60/40) binary vehicle with lauric acid would be good candidates for clinical transdermal application of hydrophilic drugs.

Backgrounds/Aims: The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is based on the albumin concentration and absolute lymphocyte count and is designed to assess the nutritional and immunological status of patients. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic importance of the preoperative and postoperative PNI in patients who underwent curative resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Methods: From 2006 to 2017, 50 patients with PDAC underwent curative resection at our hospital. We performed distal pancreatectomy (DP) with splenectomy in 15 patients, pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) in 27 patients, PD combined with portal vein partial resection in 6 patients, and total pancreatectomy with splenectomy in 2 patients. We compared the preoperative PNI and postoperative PNI (1 and 2 months postoperatively) and analyzed the prognostic importance for these patients. Results: The mean PNI significantly decreased from 45.5 preoperatively to 39.8 at 1 month postoperatively (p<0.001), but recovered to 42.7 at 2 months postoperatively. In 23 patients, the PNI at 2 months postoperatively recovered to the preoperative level (recovered group), but in the remaining 27 patients, the PNI at 2 months postoperatively did not reach the preoperative level (non-recovered group). The overall median survival time in the recovered group (29 months) was significantly longer than that in the non-recovered group (12 months, p=0.003). The multivariate overall analysis demonstrated that good recovery of the postoperative PNI was strongly correlated with a better prognosis. Conclusions: Effective postoperative nutrition may have a prognostic benefit for patients with operable PDAC.
Suppressed Fat Accumulation in Rats Fed a Histidine-Enriched Diet

The effect on body fat accumulation on male Wistar rats undergoing continuous feeding with a histidine-enriched diet was investigated. Five-week-age rats were assigned to two groups and were fed either the control diet (purified diet AIN-76™) or the histidine-enriched diet containing 3% histidine for 28 days. It was observed that both adipose tissue masses in retroperitoneal and epididymal areas of rats fed histidine-enriched diet significantly decreased (p<0.05) compared to those of control rats, while there was no significant difference in the food efficiency ratio between them. The blood levels of histidine derivatives of 3-methylhistidine and carnosine were significantly (p<0.05) increased in the rats fed a histidine-enriched diet, whereas there were no significant different between the histidine-enriched diet and control groups in the general amino acid distribution. Our results demonstrate that a histidine-enriched diet suppresses body fat accumulation in rats.
