<P>The thin-film growth conditions in a plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition for the (3.0-4.5) nm thick HfO<SUB>2</SUB> film were optimized to use the film as the resistive switching element in a neuromorphic circuit. The film was intended to be used as a feasible synapse with analog-type conductance-tuning capability. The 4.5 nm thick HfO<SUB>2</SUB> films on both conventional TiN and a new RuO<SUB>2</SUB> bottom electrode required the electroforming process for them to operate as a feasible resistive switching memory, which was the primary source of the undesirable characteristics as the synapse. Therefore, electroforming-free performance was necessary, which could be accomplished by thinning the HfO<SUB>2</SUB> film down to 3.0 nm. However, the device with only the RuO<SUB>2</SUB> bottom electrode offered the desired functionality without involving too high leakage or shorting problems, which are due to the recovery of the stoichiometric composition of the HfO<SUB>2</SUB> near the RuO<SUB>2</SUB> layer. In conjunction with the Ta top electrode, which provided the necessary oxygen vacancies to the HfO<SUB>2</SUB> layer, and the high functionality of the RuO<SUB>2</SUB> as the scavenger of excessive incorporated oxygen vacancies, which appeared to be inevitable during the repeated switching operation, the Ta/3.0 nm HfO<SUB>2</SUB>/RuO<SUB>2</SUB> provided a highly useful synaptic device component in the neuromorphic hardware system.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P>Shank2 is an excitatory postsynaptic scaffolding protein implicated in synaptic regulation and psychiatric disorders including autism spectrum disorders. Conventional Shank2-mutant (Shank2(-/-)) mice display several autistic-like behaviors, including social deficits, repetitive behaviors, hyperactivity, and anxiety-like behaviors. However, cell-type-specific contributions to these behaviors have remained largely unclear. Here, we deleted Shank2 in specific cell types and found that male mice lacking Shank2 in excitatory neurons (CaMKII-Cre;Shank2(fl/fl)) show social interaction deficits and mild social communication deficits, hyperactivity, and anxiety-like behaviors. In particular, male mice lacking Shank2 in GABAergic inhibitory neurons (Viaat-Cre;Shank2(fl/fl)) display social communication deficits, repetitive self-grooming, and mild hyperactivity. These behavioral changes were associated with distinct changes in hippocampal and striatal synaptic transmission in the two mouse lines. These results indicate that cell-type-specific deletions of Shank2 in mice lead to differential synaptic and behavioral abnormalities.</P>
노지 오이 스마트 재배를 위한 토양수분기반 자동제어시스템 개발 연구

가뭄 등 기후변화에 대응한 노지 밭작물의 물관리 자동화 및 생산성 향상이 필요하며, 고품질 밭작물생산을 위해서는 무엇보다도 정확한 물관리가 중요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 토양수분기반의 스마트 관개를 할 수 있는 자동제어 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 시스템은 크게 4가지, 데이터 수집부(토양수분-EC-지온센서, 감우센서), 데이터 송수신부(데이터로거, CDMA 모뎀), 관개시스템 제어부(컨트롤러, 전자밸브), 원격 모니터링 및 제어부(휴대폰 어플리케이션),로 구성되어 있다. 시스템의 주요 기능은 토양정보를 기반으로 자동, 수동 및 타이머 방식의 관개 및 관비를 할 수 있다는 기능이 있으며, 환경변화를 고려해 돌발강우시 자동 시스템 정지 기능을 갖추고 있다. 휴대폰 어플리케이션을 통하여 과거 및 실시간 내 농장 정보를 언제 어디서나 확인 가능하고, 원격으로 관개시스템을 제어할 수도 있다. 비상시 알림 및 시스템원격 정지, 실시간 날씨 정보 제공, 강우 예보시 지체시간 설정 등 기능도 포함하고 있다. 시스템을 전북진안군 소재 노지 오이 재배지에 적용해 본 결과, 수확량의 경우 21.3% 증가하였으며, 품질 또한 ‘특’상품이 관행대비 33.7% 증가하는 결과가 나타났으며, 이는 농가 소득 증가로 이어져 약 25.1%의 수익이 증가 하였다. 관개 소요노동력의 경우 월 19.5시간 절감하였으며, 농업용수 사용량의 경우 약 11.0% 절약할 수 있는 결과를 확인할 수 있었다.
노지 오이 재배를 위한 작물 증발산량 기반의 적정 관개계획 활용 연구

가뭄, 폭염 등 기후변화에 따른 물부족으로 농작물 피해에 선제적으로 대응하는 연구가 필요할 뿐만 아니라, 고령화, 여성화로 인해 부족해진 농촌 노동력 문제를 해결하기 위해 노지 밭작물의 적정 물관리의 자동화 기술 개발이 시급하다. 기존 토양수분정보 기반의 물관리의 경우 토양센서를 설치하여 실시간 토양수분값을 기반으로 관개를 실시하는데, 이는 센서가 설치된 부분에 국한되기 때문에 이질성이 강한 토양의 밭 전체에 대한 대표성이 결여된다는 문제점이 일부 제기된 바 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 토양수분센서가 아닌, 기상자료를 기반으로 작물과 토양으로부터 소실되는 물의 양을 수학적인 방법으로 산정하고, 이를 기반으로 관개를 하는 기술을 개발하였다. 작물 생육시기별 증발산량은 Penman-Monteith 방정식(FAO 권고방법)을 이용해 작물 계수를 반영하여 산정하였으며, 본 연구에서는 전북 진안군에 소재하는 노지 오이 재배지를 대상으로 개발한 기법을 적용 · 평가해보았다. 시험 유역 내 간이 기상대를 설치하고, 작물 증발산량 산정에 필요한 6개의 일별 기상정보(최소-평균-최대 온도, 습도, 풍속, 일사량)을 수집하여 작물 증발산량을 산정한 후, 토양수분값 변화를 고려하여 1일 1회 관개하는 관개계획을 수립하였다. 적용 결과, 경험에 의존해 관개하던 관행 대비, 작물 증발산량을 고려한 관개계획의 경우 수확량 15.8% 증가(‘특’+‘상’상품), 품질향상에 따른 ‘특’상품 생산량이 34.6% 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 관행대비 관개용수량 사용량을 비교해 본 결과 큰 차이는 보이지 않아, 용수 절감차원에서의 효과는 다소 적은 것으로 연구결과 나타났다.

<P>The bHLH transcription factor PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR1 (PIF1) binds G-box elements in vitro and inhibits light-dependent germination in Arabidopsis thaliana. A previous genome-wide analysis of PIF1 targeting indicated that PIF1 binds 748 sites in imbibed seeds, only 59% of which possess G-box elements. This suggests the G-box is not the sole determinant of PIF1 targeting. The targeting of PIF1 to specific sites could be stabilized by PIF1-interacting transcription factors (PTFs) that bind other nearby sequence elements. Here, we report PIF1 targeting sites are enriched with not only G-boxes but also with other hexameric sequence elements we named G-box coupling elements (GCEs). One of these GCEs possesses an ACGT core and serves as a binding site for group A bZIP transcription factors, including ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE5 (ABI5), which inhibits seed germination in abscisic acid signaling. PIF1 interacts with ABI5 and other group A bZIP transcription factors and together they target a subset of PIF1 binding sites in vivo. In vitro single-molecule fluorescence imaging confirms that ABI5 facilitates PIF1 binding to DNA fragments possessing multiple G-boxes or the GCE alone. Thus, we show in vivo PIF1 targeting to specific binding sites is determined by its interaction with PTFs and their binding to GCEs.</P>
Factors Associated with Re-excision after Breast-Conserving Surgery for Early-Stage Breast Cancer

Purpose: Re-excisions after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for breast cancer cause delays in the adjuvant treatment, increased morbidity, and leads to poor aesthetic results. Thus, efforts to reduce the re-excision rate are essential. This study aimed to conclusively determine the re-excision rate and the factors associated with re-excision after BCS. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and pathological reports of 711 cases that underwent BCS for early-stage breast cancer. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: Of the 711 cases of BCS, 71 (10.0%) required re-excision. Patients in the re-excision group were younger than those in the no re-excision group. Non-palpable lesions, the presence of non-mass-like enhancement at magnetic resonance imaging, multifocality, the presence of a ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) component, and an infiltrative tumor border were also significantly associated with re-excision. Multivariate analysis indicated that younger age, non-palpable lesions, multifocal lesions, and the presence of a DCIS component were factors which were independently associated with re-excision. Tumors located in the lower inner quadrant had a relatively high involved resection margin rate as well as a narrow resection margin width, especially at the superior and medial margins. Lateral margins showed a tendency toward a wider resection margin width. Conclusion: At our institution, the rate of re-excision was low despite the lack of an intraoperative frozen section. Patients with non-palpable or multifocal tumors, a DCIS component, or those who were younger than 50 years were more likely to require re-excision after BCS. These factors should be considered when planning surgical management of early-stage breast cancer. Positive resection margin rates and margin widths differed on a directional basis based on tumor location, and these differences were considerable.
