Study on the interfacial properties of SUS304 melt in contact with pedestal oxides and also liquid slugs of varying chemistry was carried out by using a combination of the sessile drop method and a X-ray fluoroscopic technique at 1470℃. Interfacial tension and contact angle were obtained directly from a numerical solution of the Young-Laplace equation. Surface tension of SUS304 was found to be 1467 mN/m in Ar-atmosphere which was considerably lower than that of pure iron. This may be due to the existence of surface active elements such as Cr, Ni and Mn etc. in SUS304. Interfacial tensions of SUS304 in contact with CaO-SiO₂-Al₂O₃(CaF₂) slugs were in the range of 925 to 1148 mN/m. The contact angle between SUS304 and various pedestal was about 120° regardless of pedestal oxides, Al₂O₃, TiO₂ and SiO₂. Contact angles between SUS304 and the pedestal alumina coexisting with liquid CaO-SiO₂-Al₂O₃(CaF₂) were in the range of 125° to 142°.

Background

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) after incomplete transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.

Methods

The study enrolled 178 HCC patients initially treated with TACE between 2006 and 2011. Patients were included if they had Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage 0 or A, ≤3 nodules with a total sum of longest diameter ≤10 cm, Child-Turcotte-Pugh score of ≤7, no major vessel invasion, and no extra-hepatic metastases.

Results

Twenty-four patients achieved a complete response to TACE (group 1). Among those with incomplete response, 47 patients received other curative treatments (group 2), 37 received SABR (group 3), and 70 received non-curative treatments (group 4). The 2–year overall survival (OS) rates for groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 88 %, 81 %, 73 %, and 54 %, respectively. The corresponding 5-year OS rates were 50 %, 58 %, 53 %, and 28 %, respectively.

Conclusions

Patients treated with SABR after incomplete TACE had similar survival outcomes to those achieving complete response to TACE or receiving curative treatments. However, patients receiving non-curative treatments had significantly lower survival rates than the other groups. Therefore, if SABR was indicated at the initial diagnosis, it might be recommended after TACE failure.

Objective To investigate the effect of the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and EFS-40 during vitrification on the expression of angiogenic factors in vitrified mouse ovarian tissue. Methods The ovarian tissues were obtained from 5 or 6 weeks aged ICR mouse. Ovarian tissues were divided into four groups: ovarian tissue without cryopreservation (control, group I), ovarian tissue vitrified with 15% DMSO (group II), ovarian tissue vitrified with EFS-40 (group III), and ovarian tissue slowly frozen with 10% DMSO (group IV). Thawing was carried out at room temperature. Levels of messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein for vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and angiopoietin-2 (Angpt-2) were checked in ovarian tissues of four groups recovered on day 7 after cryopreservation. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis were used to identify the levels of angiogenic factors in mouse ovarian tissues. Results Levels of mRNA and protein for VEGF-A and Angpt-2 were significantly decreased in cryopreserved group (group II, III and IV) than control group (group I) (P < 0.05). The significant differences of levels of mRNA and protein for VEGF-A and Angpt-2 between cryopreservation methods were observed (P < 0.05). Group III showed highest expression of mRNA and protein for VEFG-A and Angpt-2 than other cryopreservation groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion These findings suggest that EFS-40 is more efficient vitrification solution for preservation of angiogenic factors than 15% DMSO during vitrification of mouse ovarian tissue. Future studies should investigate to improve the vitrification solution for ovarian tissue vitrification.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of fetal hydrops and to find the antenatal ultrasound findings predictive of adverse perinatal outcome. Methods This is a retrospective study of 42 women with fetal hydrops who delivered in a tertiary-referral center from 2005 to 2013. Fetal hydrops was defined as the presence of fluid collection in ≥2 body cavities: ascites, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, and skin edema. Predictor variables recorded included: maternal characteristics, gestational age at diagnosis, ultrasound findings, and identifiable causes. Primary outcome variables analyzed were fetal death and neonatal death. Results The mean gestational age at diagnosis was 29.3±5.4 weeks (range, 18 to 39 weeks). The most common identifiable causes were cardiac abnormality (10), followed by syndrome (4), aneuploidy (3), congenital infection (3), twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (3), non-cardiac anormaly (2), chorioangioma (2), inborn errors of metabolism (1), and immune hydrops by anti-E antibody isoimmunization (1). Thirteen cases had no definite identifiable causes. Three women elected termination of pregnancy. Fetal death occurred in 4 cases. Among the 35 live-born babies, only 16 survived (54.0% neonatal mortality rate). Fetal death and neonatal mortality rate was not significantly associated with Doppler velocimetry indices or location of fluid collection, but increasing numbers of fluid collection site was significantly associated with a higher risk of neonatal death. Conclusion The incidence of fetal hydrops in our retrospective study was 24.4 per 10,000 deliveries and the perinatal mortality rate was 61.9% (26/42). The number of fluid collection sites was the significant antenatal risk factor to predict neonatal death.
The Mechanism of Cellular Injury in Chronic Hepatitis B
Paik, KyeHyung,Lee, Youn Jae,Yang, Young ll,Jang, Won Hee 인제대학교 1999 仁濟醫學 Vol.20 No.1S
The degree of hepatic injury was moderately increased, and all patients except one case had stage 4 of fibrosis, no case had HBV-DNA in their serum. Anti-HBe was found in 4 cases among 7 cases of Type Ⅳ Expression. Only one case had mutation in basal core promoter region. In conclusion, the patterns of HBcAg expression in the hepatocytes seems to be a useful method to determine chlinicopathologic phase in patient with chronic hepatitis B.

In the Streptomyces hygroscopicus JCM4427 geldanamycin biosynthetic gene cluster, five putative regulatory genes were identified by protein homology searching. Among those genes, gel14, gel17, and gel19 are located downstream of polyketide synthase genes. Gel14 and Gel17 are members of the LAL family of transcriptional regulators, including an ATP/GTP-binding domain at the N-terminus and a DNA-binding helix-turn-helix domain at the Cterminus. Gel19 is a member of the TetR family of transcriptional regulators, which generally act to repress transcription. To verify the biological significance of the putative regulators in geldanamycin production, they were individually characterized by gene disruption, genetic complementation, and transcriptional analyses. All three genes were confirmed as positive regulators of geldanamycin production. Specifically, Gel17 and Gel19 are required for gel14 as well as gelA gene expression.

Background: Similar to the United States and Europe, the majorityof patients with chronic HCV infection in Japan, Korea, and Taiwanare infected with HCV genotype (GT) 1. However, important differencesin viral and host characteristics exist between the infected populationsin these regions, including age, BMI, IL28B genotype andHCV GT1 subtype. The aim of this integrated analysis is to evaluatethe efficacy and safety of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF) in a largecohort of Asian patients with chronic GT1 HCV infection. Methods: This analysis combines data from subjects enrolled in twoPhase 3 trials: GS-US-337-0113 (Japan) and GS-US-337-0131 (Koreaand Taiwan) evaluating 12 weeks of LDV/SOF (90mg/400mg) in treatment-naive and treatment-experienced adults with chronic GT1 HCVinfection. The primary efficacy endpoint was SVR12.Results: Overall, 349 subjects were enrolled in Korea, Taiwan, andJapan, 67 (19%) had cirrhosis. The majority were female (58%), treatment-experienced (51%), GT1b infected (94%), and IL28B CC (62%).The mean age (range) was 57 (18-80) years old, BMI 24 (17-38)kg/m2, and HCV RNA was 6.6 (3.7-7.6) log10 IU/mL. HCV NS5ARAVs were detected in 23% (80/343) of subjects at baseline. Theoverall SVR12 rate was 99% (346/349); 2 subjects relapsed and 1subject prematurely discontinued treatment. All treatment-experiencedsubjects with cirrhosis (45/45) achieved SVR12. NS5A RAVswere detected at the time of relapse but no NS5B RAVs were detected.Serious AE and treatment discontinuations were rare (<2%). Adverseevents were generally mild in severity. No significant laboratory abnormalitieswere observed. Conclusions: A single tablet regimen of LDV/SOF administered oncedaily for 12 weeks is highly effective and well tolerated in Asianpatients with chronic GT1 HCV infection, including those with compensatedcirrhosis.
