Standardization Activities for Service Robots in Korea
Vol.2009 No.8
There has been much interest in standardization for robots recently, as the emerging robotic products are being introduced in the market. This paper reviews on the ongoing standardization activities for service robots in Korea. We first describe the efforts at Korea Standard Forum for Intelligent Robots. Then, we explain how some of these standards are enacted as KS, Korea Industrial Standards. We believe that this dual stage approach allows fast standardization while giving enough time for selected topics.
Summary of recent standardization activities in the field of robotics
Moon, Seungbin,Rhim, Sungsoo,Cho, Young-Jo,Park, Kwang-Ho,Virk, Gurvinder S. Cambridge University Press 2013 Robotica Vol.31 No.2
SUMMARY
This paper summarizes the recent standardization activities in the field of robotics by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), OMG (Object Management Group), and other organizations. While the standards in industrial robots have been mainly developed by ISO, the standards on the emerging service robots are initiated by many organizations. One of the goals of this paper is to coordinate the efforts among these groups so that more effective standardization activity can be executed. Standardization in the emerging service robots will eventually promote the proliferation of service robot markets in the near future.

Survey on ISO Standards for Industrial and Service Robots
Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, the current international ISO activities on robots are introduced; ISO TC 184/SC 2, which has been active in developing standards for industrial robots and has widened its scope recently to include service robots as well as industrial robots. The aim of this paper is to introduce the existing standards and the new standards to be developed in SC 2, so that anyone who has interest in these emerging robotic areas could have information on the progress and the future planned developments.

Face recognition is an extensively researched area of computer vision. Visible, infrared, thermal, and 3D modalities have been used against various challenges of face recognition such as illumination, pose, expression, partial information, and disguise. In this paper we present a multi-modal approach to face recognition using convolutional neural networks. We use visible and thermal face images as two separate inputs to a multi-input deep learning network for face recognition. The experiments are performed on IRIS visible and thermal face database and high face verification rates are achieved.
Comparison of PCA and LDA based face recognition algorithms under illumination variations
Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, we study face recognition using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) under illumination variations. A Modified Census Transform (MCT) is applied as preprocessing step to compensate illumination variations, and then PCA and LDA are employed to find lower-dimensional subspaces for face recognition. Distances between training and testing images are measured by three metrics (L1, L2, and cosine). The aim of this paper is to compare the results of two most popular subspace projection methods under illumination variation conditions.
PCA-based Face Recognition in an Embedded Module for Robot Application
Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, we implemented PCA-based face recognition algorithm in an ARM CPU embedded module. We performed experiments in the embedded system using Yale face database to measure the recognition rate andprocessing time. We showed that the computation time has been improved much, while the recognition rate remainssimilar, when we employ the conversion of floating point to fixed point arithmetic operation.
Vol.18 No.2
본 논문에서는 얼굴 요소의 자연적 특징과 PCA(Principal Component Analysis)를 융합한 얼굴인식 알고리즘을 소개한다.
