TBACl (10 mol %) 를 촉매로 사용하여 치환된benzimidazoles을 합성하는 간단하고 효율적인 합성방을 개발하였다. TBACl (10 mol %) was found to be a useful catalyst for the synthesis of substituted benzimidazoles. The method was proved to be simple, convenient and the product was isolated with good yield.

Fullerenes, $C_{60}$ and $C_{70}$, display interesting physicochemical properties in solutions, especially due to their unique chemical structures and their good electron accepting abilities. Solubility of fullerenes in different organic solvents and their unusual solvatochromic behavior, the ability of the fullerenes to form aggregates in solutions, and their electron transfer and charge transfer interactions with variety of electron donors, are the subjects of extensive research activities for more than one decade. Many research groups including ours have contributed substantially in the understanding of the solvatochromism, aggregation behavior, and the photoinduced electron transfer and charge transfer chemistry of fullerenes, in condensed phase. Present article is aimed to summarize the important results reported on the above aspects of fullerenes, subsequent to the earlier report from our group (D.K. Palit and J.P. Mittal, Full. Present investigation deals with the effect of electron beam irradiation on the photoelectrochemicalproperties of cadmium selenium telluride (CdSe0.6Te0.4) thin films. Initially, CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films wereelectrodeposited on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass and stainless steel substrates. Later,these CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films were irradiated with high energy electron beam(10 MeV) of different dosesfrom 10 to 30 kilograys (kGy). The effect of electron beam irradiation on different physico-chemicalproperties of CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films such asmorphological, structural, optical and photoelectrochemicalhas been investigated. It is observed that, the electron beam irradiation treatment considerably affectsthe properties of CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films. The surface morphology of CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films was changedfrom cauliflowers to nanoflowers, nanoroses and interconnected nanoflakes with doses of electronbeams. Furthermore, the effect of electron beam irradiation on photoelectrochemical properties ofCdSe0.6Te0.4 films was investigated. It is interesting to note that, the photoelectrochemical (PEC)properties of CdSe0.6Te0.4 thin films are extensively affected by electron beam irradiation. Thephotoconversion efficiency values of CdSe0.6Te0.4 films for different doses of electron beam are found tobe 0.9%, 1.1%, 2.0% and 1.5%, respectively.
In vitro and In vivo Biocompatibility Evaluation of Freeze Dried Gelatin Haemostat

Gelatin sponges developed by crosslinking gelatin with formaldehyde followed by controlled freeze-drying resultsin soft, spongy porous structures, which are useful in arresting bleeding during surgical procedures. The aim of this article isto conduct the in vivo evaluation of the gelatin sponge as per ISO 10993: Biological evaluation of medical devices; and proveits biocompatibility. The sponges were also evaluated by morphology analysis, tensile strength and blood-absorption studies. Sponges were found to be microporous with considerable mechanical strength to withstand any rupture during its application. Blood absorption studies showed good absorption behaviour. As per ISO 10993; cytotoxicity, skin irritation, sensitisation andblood compatibly studies has to be conducted to check the biocompatibility of a biomaterial. Gelatin sponge was found to benon-cytotoxic in Balb/c 3T3 cells. The experiments conducted on albino rabbits and guinea pig concluded that the materialdoes not cause any irritation and sensitisation in vivo and is non-haemolytic when in contact with blood. Hence the materialmeets the requirements of a biocompatible haemostatic agent for the management of blood loss during surgical procedures.

A modified synthetic approach to the synthesis of heterocyclic food mutagens, 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PHIP) and 2-amino-1,6-dimethylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (DMIP) is reported. This route highlights an optimized palladium catalysed Buchwald cross-coupling of 2-halo-1-methyl-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine with benzophenoneimine followed by acidic hydrolysis to yield compound 7. Using finely tailored conditions, Suzuki cross-coupling reactions with highly efficient catalytic systems were performed as the final step on 8 to introduce the aryl group and methyl group on the heterocyclic core.
