Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. Blocking of Cell Proliferation, Cytokines Production and Genes Expression Following Administration of Cordyceps sinensis in the Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluids Cells. Proceedings of international Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 44-64, 1999.-Cordyceps sinensis is a major parasitic fungus on larva of Lepidoptera. It is one of the well know fungi used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment asthma, lung and kideney diseases. Many fungi belonging to the genus Cordyceps have been demonstrated to produce natural products with various biological activities. Reported biological activities of genus cordyceps include:(a)inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis;(b)enhancement of cell differentiation;(c)restruction of cytoskeleton;(d)inhibition of protein kinase activity;(e)antitumor activity on bladder, colon, lung carcinoma as well as fibroblastoma;(f)inhibition of the infection and revers transciptase activity of human immunodeficiency virus type 1; and(g) inhibition of methylation of nucleic acid. Thus, it is suggested that the extracts of Cordyceps sp. Contain antitumor, antiviral, and many other biological activities. In our previous studies, we proved that C. sinensis contains the antitumor and immunomodulatory agents. In the present studies, effects of C. sinensis on bronchoalveolar lavage fluids(BAL)cells were demonstrated. The crude methanolic extracts of C. sinensis were fractionated into 15 fractions by silica gel column chromatography. Effects of various fraction on BAL cells proliferation and lipopolysaccharide(LPS) stimulated interleukin-1β(IL-8),platelet activating factor(PAF), interleukin-6(IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),and interleukin-8(IL-8) production on BAL cells were determined. The result indicated that the CS-19-22 fraction suppressed BAL cells proliferation activated by LPS. The median inhibitory concentration(IC50) was 6㎍/ml. The CS-19-22 fraction also decreased IL-1β,PAF,IL-6, TNF-αand IL-8 production. The results of revers transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) demonstrated that the CS-19-22 fraction did not affect IL-1β,PAF,IL-6, TNF-α,and IL-8 mRNAs expression in BAL cells activated by LPS. By contrast, it inhibited the IL-10 mRNA expression but enhanced IFN-γand IL-12 mRNAs expression in activated BAL cells. Moreover, the CS-19-22 fraction blocked PAF-induced platelet aggregation. It is unlikely that cytotoxicity was involved. Because no cell deths were observable. We hypothesize that inhibitory mechanisms of CS-19-22 on BAL cells proliferation may be related to the impairments of gene expression and production of cytokines in BAL cells. The explanation of C. sinensis antiasthma function may involved the following(1)C.sinenesis contained immunomodulatory agents that stimulated IFN-γand IL-12 expression in TH1cells.(2)Enhanced secretion of IFN-γand IL-12 will inhibit the Tγcells immune responses Ex. Decreasing of IL-6 and IL-10 production.(3) The impairments of cytokines production in TH2 cells suppressed th BAL cells proliferation then more cytokines production Ex.IL-1β,PAF,IL-6,TNF-αand IL-8 in activated BAL cells were decreased. (4)The suppression of TH2cells immune responses will inhibit the growth and differentiation of B cells then IgE production will be decreased. (5)Reduced production of IgE will decreased asthma attack occurring in individuals. However, the results of the present study suggested that C. sinensis may also have acted to treat asthma in part by inhibiting BAL cells proliferation and cytokine gene expression and production. Future, experiments with treatment of animals with asthma with C. sinensis will be necessary to defined whether C. sinensis can reduce asthma injury. Plans are underway for the isolation of pure principal growth inhibitors and their mechanisms of action are subjected for further study.

Hot Deformation Characteristics and Processing Map Analysis of Pre-Forged AZ80 Magnesium Alloy

        Shi‑quan Huang,Ming Lu,Sheng‑lan Luo,Hai‑lin He,You‑ping Yi 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.5

The hot deformation behavior of pre-forged AZ80 magnesium alloy is investigated by the isothermal compression tests attemperatures of 523–683 K and strain rates of 0.0001–0.1 s−1, and analyzed by the processing maps for guiding isothermaldie forging. Flow localization and even cracking occurs at low temperatures and high strain rates, where shear deformationdegree shows a positive correlation with the ( ̇ ) value. Two stability regions with high efficiency is found out by theprocessing maps. At common stability region with high temperatures and low strain rates, peak power dissipation efficiencydoes not represent optimum deformation condition as reported in other materials. A Z parameter criterion is introduced forparameters optimization. javascript:void(0); a new stability domain of 523–590 K and 0.0001–0.01 s−1 is observed, which istypical for fine microstructure composed of equiaxed clean α-Mg grains and big particles both about 1 μm (573 K/0.01 s−1).Super plasticity is speculated to occur at that condition.

Current Sharing Method Based on Optimal Phase Shift Control for Interleaved Three-Phase Half Bridge LLC Converter with Floating Y-Connection

        Lin Shi,Bangyin Liu,Shanxu Duan 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.4

A current balance problem exists in multi-phase LLC converters due to the resonant parameter tolerance. This paper presents acurrent balancing method for interleaved three-phase half bridge LLC converters. This method regulates the phase shift angle ofthe driving signals between the three phases based on a converter with a floating Y-connection. The floating midpoint voltagehas different influences on each phase current and makes the three-phase current balance performance better than midpointnon-floating systems. Phase shift control between modules can further regulate the midpoint voltage. Then three phase currentsharing is realized without adding extra components. The current distributions in a midpoint non-floating system and a midpointfloating system are compared. Then the principle and implementation of the proposed control strategy are analyzed in detail. A3kW prototype is built to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.

      • Mortality Characteristics and Prediction of Female Breast Cancer in China from 1991 to 2011

Shi, Xiao-Jun,Au, William W.,Wu, Ku-Sheng,Chen, Lin-Xiang,Lin, Kun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Aims: To analyze time-dependent changes in female breast cancer (BC) mortality in China, forecast the trend in the ensuing 5 years, and provide recommendations for prevention and management. Materials and Methods: Mortality data of breast cancer in China from 1991 to 2011 was used to describe characteristics and distribution, such as the changes of the standardized mortality rate, urban-rural differences and age differences. Trend-surface analysis was used to study the geographical distribution of mortality. In addition, curve estimation, time series modeling, Gray modeling (GM) and joinpoint regression were performed to estimate and predict future trends. Results: In China, the mortality rate of breast cancer has increased yearly since 1991. In addition, our data predicted that the trend will continue to increase in the ensuing 5 years. Rates in urban areas are higher than those in rural areas. Over the past decade, all peak ages for death by breast cancer have been delayed, with the first death peak occurring at 55 to 65 years of age in urban and rural areas. Geographical analysis indicated that mortality rates increased from Southwest to Northeast and from West to East. Conclusions: The standardized mortality rate of breast cancer in China is rising and the upward trend is predicted to continue for the next 5 years. Since this can cause an enormous health impact in China, much better prevention and management of breast cancer is needed. Consequently, disease control centers in China should place more focus on the northeastern, eastern and southeastern parts of China for breast cancer prevention and management, and the key population should be among women between ages 55 to 65, especially those in urban communities.

CNOP-Based Sensitive Areas Identification for Tropical Cyclone Adaptive Observations with PCAGA Method

        Lin-Lin Zhang,Shi-Jin Yuan,Bin Mu,Fei-Fan Zhou 한국기상학회 2017 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.53 No.1

In this paper, conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation (CNOP) was investigated to identify sensitive areas for tropical cyclone adaptive observations with principal component analysis based genetic algorithm (PCAGA) method and two tropical cyclones, Fitow (2013) and Matmo (2014), were studied with a 120 km resolution using the fifth-generation Mesoscale Model (MM5). To verify the effectiveness of PCAGA method, CNOPs were also calculated by an adjoint-based method as a benchmark for comparison on patterns, energies, and vertical distributions of temperatures. Comparing with the benchmark, the CNOPs obtained from PCAGA had similar patterns for Fitow and a little different for Matmo; the vertically integrated energies were located closer to the verification areas and the initial tropical cyclones. Experimental results also presented that the CNOPs of PCAGA had a more positive impact on the forecast improvement, which gained from the reductions of the CNOPs in the whole domain containing sensitive areas. Furthermore, the PCAGA program was executed 40 times for each case and all the averages of benefits were larger than the benchmark. This also proved the validity and stability of the PCAGA method. All results showed that the PCAGA method could approximately solve CNOP of complicated models without computing adjoint models, and obtain more benefits of reducing the CNOPs in the whole domain.

Quantum Mechanical Study of the O(1D) + HCl → OH + Cl Reaction

Lin, Shi-Ying,Park, Seung-C. Korean Chemical Society 2002 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.23 No.2

Quantum mechanical calculation is performed for the $O(^1D)$ + HCl ${\rightarrow}$OH + Cl reaction using Reactive Infinite Order Sudden Approximation. Shifting approximation is also employed for the l ${\neq}$ 0 partial wave contributions. Various dynamical quantities are calculated and compared with available experimental results and quasiclassical trajectory results. Vibrational distributions agree well with experimental results i.e. product states mostly populated at $v_f$ = 3, 4. Our results also show small peak at $v_f$ = 0, which indicates bimodal vibrational distribution. The results show two significant broad peaks in ${\gamma}_i$ dependence of the cross section, one is at ${\gamma}_i$ = $15^{\circ}-35^{\circ}$ and the another is at ${\gamma}_i$= $55^{\circ}-75^{\circ}$ which can be explained as steric effects. At smaller gi, the distribution is peaked only at higher state ($v_f$ = 3, 4) while at the larger gi, both lower state ($v_f$ = 0) and higher state ($v_f$ = 3, 4) are significantly populated. Such two competing contributions (smaller and larger ${\gamma}_i$) result in the bimodal distribution. From these points we suggest two mechanisms underlying in current reaction system: one is that reaction occurs in a direct way, while the another is that reaction occurs in a indirect way.

Hidden Markov model based drone sound recognition using MFCC technique in practical noisy environments

Shi, Lin,Ahmad, Ishtiaq,He, YuJing,Chang, KyungHi Editorial Department of Journal of Communications 2018 Journal of communications and networks Vol.20 No.5

<P>The development of drones has captured the attention of hobbyists and investors alike; drones now have greater commercial and military applications owing to their relatively small size and ability to fly without an on-board pilot. However, certain drone applications may pose serious threats to public safety. The most important problem to be addressed is the recognition of drones in security-sensitive areas. This paper presents an approach to recognize drones through sounds emitted by their propellers using Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) technique for feature extraction and the hidden Markov model (HMM) approach for classification. In the feature extraction stage, two schemes for feature vectors (one using twenty-four MFCCs and the other using the proposed thirty-six MFCCs) are applied, where additional dynamic information of the features is added in the latter. The classifier based on HMMs is then trained using the extracted features according to different training datasets in order to validate the effect of the number of sound types in each cluster on the recognition rate performance. We perform experiments for drone sound recognition utilizing various training datasets for the purpose of classifier optimization, as well as for the two MFCC schemes that are applied in each trial, using the same training datasets for a fair comparison. The experimental results finally validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed methods with relatively high recognition rates, even in noisy environments.</P>

Digital Image-based Identification Method for the Determination of the Particle Size Distribution of Dam Granular Material

        Shi-lin Zhang,Gao-jian Wu,Xingguo Yang,Wan-hong Jiang,Jia-wen Zhou 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.8

The Particle Size Distribution (PSD) properties of dam granular material plays an important role in the construction process ofearth-rock dams, as it can affect the filling quality and structural safety. However, the conventional sieving method employed tocheck the PSD is labor-intensive, time-consuming and not highly accurate. In this study, a digital image-based identification methodis presented for the determination of the PSD of dam granular material, which mainly incorporates image acquisition technology, alarge database and a neural network. Digital Image Processing (DIP) technology is used to recognize the geometric size and gradingcurve of dam granular materials at a small scale, while statistical distribution models are used to determine the characteristicparameters of the grading curve and convert the graphical curve into mathematical variables. Furthermore, a large database and a BPneutral algorithm, which is improved using a genetic algorithm, are introduced as tools to reveal the implicit relationship between theDIP and sieving grading curves to correct the error of identification. A case study for the Changheba Hydropower Station is used toillustrate the implementation details of the presented method. The identification results demonstrate that the presented method canacquire and assess the gradation in spite of a degree of error, which can be decreased when more advanced DIP technologies areexplored, the amount of data in the database is increased, and a more optimized network algorithm is adopted.
