The objective of this research is to study the behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete section under load reversals. An analytical method is presented for the derivation of the moment-curvature relations for its sections subjected to cyclic loading in the inelastic range. The method utilizes stress-strain models for concrete and reinforcing steel subjected to cyclic stresses. Computer programs were developed to compute the bending moment and the curvature for cyclically loaded reinforced high-strength concrete sections with or without constant axial compression. The derived moment-curvature relations are compared and are shown good agreement with experimental results. The analytical method is used to study factors, such as the tension and compression reinforcement, the axial load, yield strength of steel, affecting the behavior of reinforced concrete sections under load reversals.

<▼1><P>A potential gate dielectric material that can be cured and processed at low temperatures was designed and synthesized <I>via</I> the cross-linking of bisphenol A novolac (Novolac) and hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) in the presence of a catalytic amount of <I>p</I>-toluenesulfonic acid.</P></▼1><▼2><P>A potential gate dielectric material that can be cured and processed at low temperatures was designed and synthesized <I>via</I> the cross-linking of bisphenol A novolac (Novolac) and hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) in the presence of a catalytic amount of <I>p</I>-toluenesulfonic acid. The thin films of the prepared insulator, Novolac-MM, were completely solidified after cross-linking at 100 °C. Metal–insulator–metal (MIM) devices and pentacene-based p-type organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using the synthesized polymer as a dielectric layer were fabricated and compared to poly(vinylphenol)-based materials. Novolac-MM devices showed low leakage current (<10<SUP>−8</SUP> A cm<SUP>−2</SUP>) and higher hole mobility (0.31 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>) than PVP devices (0.23 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>). Flexible OTFTs using Novolac-MM were also fabricated, and were found to be processable at low temperatures.</P></▼2>
Modeling Human Exposure Levels to Airborne Volatile Organic Compounds by the Hebei Spirit Oil Spill

Objectives: The goal was to model and quantify the atmospheric concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as the result of the Hebei Spirit oil spill, and to predict whether the exposure levels were abnormally high or not. Methods: We developed a model for calculating the airborne concentration of VOCs that are produced in an oil spill accident. The model was applied to a practical situation, namely the Hebei Spirit oil spill. The accuracy of the model was verified by comparing the results with previous observation data. The concentrations were compared with the currently used air quality standards. Results: Evaporation was found to be 10- to 1,000-fold higher than the emissions produced from a surrounding industrial complex. The modeled concentrations for benzene failed to meet current labor environmental standards, and the concentration of benzene, toluene, orthometa-para-xylene were higher than the values specified by air quality standards and guideline values on the ocean. The concentrations of total VOCs were much higher than indoor environmental criteria for the entire Taean area for a few days. Conclusions: The extent of airborne exposure was clearly not the same as that for normal conditions.

<P>alpha-Lipoic acid (LA) has been intensely investigated as a therapeutic agent for several pathological conditions, including diabetic polyneuropathy. In the present study, we examined the effects of LA on osteoclastic bone loss associated with inflammation. LA significantly inhibited IL-1-induced osteoclast formation in cocultures of mouse osteoblasts and bone marrow cells, but LA had only a marginal effect on osteoclastogenesis from bone marrow macrophages induced by receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL). LA inhibited both the sustained up-regulation of RANKL expression and the production of PGE2 induced by IL-1 in osteoblasts. In addition, treatment with either prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) or RANKL rescued IL-1-induced osteoclast formation inhibited by LA or NS398, a specific cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, in cocultures. LA blocked IL-1-induced PGE2 production even in the presence of arachidonic acid, without affecting the expression of COX-2 and membrane-bound PGE2 synthase. Dihydrolipoic acid (the reduced form of LA), but not LA, attenuated recombinant COX-2 activity in vitro. LA also inhibited osteoclast formation and bone loss induced by IL-1 and LPS in mice. Our results suggest that the reduced form of LA inhibits COX-2 activity, PGE2 production, and sustained RANKL expression, thereby inhibiting osteoclast formation and bone loss in inflammatory conditions.</P>

이 연구의 목적은 개발도상국들의 국제시장 진입 기회를 조명하는데 있다. 오늘날의 고도로 국제화되고 자유 경쟁적인 세계 경제에 있어서, 경제 무역이론들은 수출지향적인 개발도상국들의 개발탐색에 대한 실질적인 해결책을 제시하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 개발도상국들의 국제시장의 침투전략에 대한 기본적인 토대를 제시하기 위해 이 연구에서는, 개발도상국들이 전략적 사업분석을 통하여 그들의 침투 전략을 수립하는델 있어 중요한 다음 세가지 기본 고려 사항들을 결합시켜 보았다. 첫째 개발도상국들의 값싼 노동력 강세의 장기적이고 전략적인 사용이, 값싼 노동력, 숙련효과, 급속한 국제환경의 변화들의 경제적 속성의 관점에서 분석되어 졌다. 둘째, 개발도상국들의 침략전력의 기본적인 개념적 토대는 일본의 성공에 관한 무역 경험 이론의 세심한 재조명에서 뒷받침 될 수 있다. 끝으로 기술 이전 전략을, 앞에서 나오는 침투전략의 효율적 수행을 위한 분석과 결합 하는 일이다. 숙련효과를 축적하기 위해서, 유용한 기술을 수입하는 지혜는 이 논문이 나오는 기술바탕의 개념에 의해 그 의미가 명백해 지고 있다.
