<P>Rapid identification of bacterial species is crucial in medicine and food hygiene. In order to achieve rapid and label-free identification of bacterial species at the single bacterium level, we propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical method based on Fourier transform light scattering (FTLS) measurements and statistical classification. For individual rod-shaped bacteria belonging to four bacterial species (Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus casei, and Bacillus subtilis), two-dimensional angle-resolved light scattering maps are precisely measured using FTLS technique. The scattering maps are then systematically analyzed, employing statistical classification in order to extract the unique fingerprint patterns for each species, so that a new unidentified bacterium can be identified by a single light scattering measurement. The single-bacterial and label-free nature of our method suggests wide applicability for rapid point-of-care bacterial diagnosis.</P>

카메라 기반의 원격 시선 추적 방식은 기기의 특성상 사용자의 움직임 등의 요인에 의해 시선 추적의 정확성 측면에서 많은 영향을 받는다. 하지만 턱받침을 사용하여 사용자의 움직임을 제약하는 실험환경은 시선 추적의 정확성을 높이는 대신 비침습적인 시선 추적 방식의 이점을 사라지게 한다. 이 논문에서는 비침습적인 추적 방식에서 나타날 수 있는 정확도의 저하를 극복하기 위하여 높은 정확도가 요구되는 관심 영역을 화면상에서 확대함으로써 해상력을 높이는 방안을 제시한다. 관심 영역의 확대는 두 종류의 조건(상시, 조건부)에 의해 이루어 졌으며, 이를 기존 시선 추적 방식과 비교했다. 또한 이렇게 비교한 결과를 바탕으로 적응형 확대 기법의 장점과 한계를 정리했다. The accuracy and precision of video-based remote gaze trackers is affected by numerous factors (e.g. the head movement of the participant). However, it is challenging to control all factors that have an influence, and doing so (e.g., using a chin-rest to control geometry) could lead to losing the benefit of using gaze trackers, i.e., the ecological validity of their unobtrusive nature. We propose an adaptive zoom-based gaze tracking technique, ZoomTrack that addresses this problem by improving the resolution of the gaze tracking results. Our approach magnifies a region-of-interest (ROI) and retrieves gaze points at a higher resolution under two different zooming modes: only when the gaze reaches the ROI (temporary) or whenever a participant stares at the stimuli (omnipresent). We compared these against the base case without magnification in a user study. The results are then used to summarize the advantages and limitations of our technique.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The purpose of this study was to determine whether combined treatments would produce synergistic disinfection effects on seafood products such as mussel and squid compared with single treatments. We investigated the bactericidal effects of chlorine and ionizing radiation on the natural microflora of mussel and squid. Total aerobic bacteria initially ranged from 10<SUP>2</SUP> to 10<SUP>4</SUP>LogCFU/g. More than 100ppm of chlorine and irradiation at 1kGy were sufficient to reduce the total aerobic bacteria on mussel and squid to a level lower than detection limit (10CFU/g). Synergistic effects against natural microflora were observed for all combined treatment. These results suggest that a significant synergistic benefit results from combine chlorine-ionizing radiation treatment against natural microflora on mussel and squid.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► Synergistic effect of combined treatments of chlorine and irradiation was tested using seafood. ► Synergistic effect against natural microflora was observed for all combined treatments. ► Therefore, it is recommended that industry use the combined treatment for better effect.</P>
중·고령자의 온라인 여가활동 유형에 따라 여가자원이 여가만족도, 행복감에 미치는 영향 연구

본 연구는 중·고령자의 온라인 여가활동 유형에 따른 여가자원과 여가만족도, 행복감의 관계를 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2019년 국민여가활동조사의 전체응답자 가운데 중·고령자 3,138명을 최종 분석대상자로 선정하였으며, 온라인 사회형 여가활동, 온라인 취미형 여가활동, 온라인 정보탐색형 여가활동 세 집단으로 구분하여 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 첫째, 온라인 사회형 여가활동 집단은 여가비용과 여가만족도, 행복감 간 정적인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 여가시간은 여가만족도에만 정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 온라인 취미형 여가활동 집단은 여가비용은 여가만족도와 행복감 둘 다에게 정적인 관계를 가졌으나 여가시간은 유의미하지 않았다. 셋째, 온라인 정보탐색형 집단은 여가비용과 여가시간 모두 여가만족도와 행복감과 정적으로 유의미한 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 각 여가유형별로 여가자원과 여가만족도, 행복감 간의 관계가 다르게 나타났음을 확인하였으며 이러한 연구결과는 여가활동 유형에 따른 차별화된 지원이 필요함을 강조하고 있다. 본 연구결과는 중·고령자의 여가만족과 행복감 증진을 위한 실천적 개입의 기초자료로서 활용될 것이다. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between leisure resources, leisure satisfaction, and happiness according to the types of online leisure activities among middle-aged and older adults. To conduct this research, we referred to “The National Survey on Leisure Activities (2019)” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as engaging with 3,138 participants aged 50 or older. Based on prior research, multiple linear regression analysis was conducted by dividing groups into online social leisure activities, online hobby leisure activities, and online information-search leisure activities. First, the online social leisure group showed that leisure cost had a positive relationship with leisure satisfaction and happiness, while leisure time only affected a positive effect on leisure satisfaction. Second, the online hobby leisure activities group showed that leisure cost had a positive relationship with leisure satisfaction and happiness. Third, the online information-search group showed that leisure resources(leisure cost and time) had a significant positive significant relationship with leisure satisfaction and happiness. Based on the results, we emphasized the need for differentiated programs and policies according to the type of leisure activities. The results of this study provided the fundamental material for practical interventions to promote leisure satisfaction and happiness for middle-aged and older adults.

<P>Background aims. Major challenges in de-differentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) therapy are the high rate of sequential recurrence (>80%) and metastasis (20-30%) following surgical removal. However, well-defined therapeutic strategies for this rare malignancy are lacking and are critically needed. Methods. We investigated a new approach to DDLPS therapy with mesenchymal stromal cells expressing herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (MSC-TK). In an effort to evaluate this efficacy, in vitro cytotoxicity of MSC-TK against DDLPS cells was analyzed using an apoptosis assay. For pre-clinical study, the MSC-TK induced reduction in recurrence and metastasis was validated in a recurrent DDLPS model after the macroscopic complete resection and lung metastasis DDLPS model. Results. MSC-TK induced apoptosis in DDLPS cells by bystander effects via gap junction intracellular communication (GJIC) of toxic ganciclovir (GCV). Recurrent DDLPS models following no residual tumor/microscopic tumor resection and lung metastasis DDLPS models were established, which suggested clinical relevance. MSC-TK markedly reduced locoregional recurrence rates and prolonged recurrence-free survival, thus increasing overall survival in the recurrent DDLPS model. MSC-TK followed by GCV treatment yielded a statistically significant reduction in early and advanced-stage lung metastasis. Discussion. This therapeutic strategy may serve as an alternative or additional strategy by applying MSC-TK to target residual tumors following surgical resection, thus reducing local relapse and metastasis in these patients.</P>
