The aim of this study was to evaluate thepharmacokinetics (PK) and bioequivalence (BE) of twometformin tablets. For in vitro evaluation, weight variation, assay and dissolution tests were performed. A randomized, single dose, two-period, cross over study in healthy malefasting volunteers was designed. A 2-week washout periodseparated the two periods. For analysis of PK parametersblood sampling was performed before and after drugadministration in various time points up to 12 h. Metforminconcentration in plasma was determined using a developedhigh performance liquid chromatography method. Bothformulations passed the assay, content uniformity, and dissolutiontests acceptance value. PK parameters, representingthe rate and the extent of metformin absorption were calculatedand analyzed for two formulations. The 90 % CIobtained by analysis of variance for the ratios of Cmax,AUC0–t, and AUC0–? were 92.14–110.95, 92.72–107.37and 89.42–110.23 % respectively, meeting the criteria forBE (80–125 %). Administration of a single dose of test andreference formulations did not result in statistically significantdifferences between in vitro and in vivo BE parametersin healthy Iranian male volunteers. Thus in the case of rateand extent of absorption the test and reference formulationswere considered bioequivalent.
Comparison of ARIMA and NNAR Models for Forecasting Water Treatment Plant's Influent Characteristics
Afshin Maleki,Simin Nasseri,Mehri Solaimany Aminabad,Mahdi Hadi 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.22 No.9
A reliable forecasting model for each Water Treatment Plant (WTP) influent characteristics is useful for controlling the plant's operation. In this paper Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Neural Network Auto-Regressive (NNAR) modeling techniques were applied on a WTP's influent water characteristics time series to make some models for short-term period (to seven days ahead) forecasting. The ARIMA and NNAR models both provided acceptable generalization capability with R2s ranged from 0.44 to 0.91 and 0.45 to 0.92, respectively, for chloride and temperature. Although a more prediction performance was observed for NNAR in comparison with ARIMA for all studied series, the forecasting performance of models was further examined using Time Series Cross-Validation (TSCV) and Diebold-Mariano test. The results showed ARIMA is more accurate than NNAR for forecasting the horizon-daily values for CO2, Cl and Ca time-series. Therefore, despite of the good predictive performance of NNAR, ARIMA may still stands as better alternative for forecasting task of aforementioned series. Thus, as a general rule, not only the predictive performance using R2 statistic but also the forecasting performance of a model using TSCV, are need to be examined and compared for selecting an appropriate forecasting model for WTP's influent characteristics.

Among several bacteria examined, an antibacterial-producing Lactobacillus strain with probiotic characteristics was selected and identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Subsequent purification and mode of action of the antibacterial compounds on target cells including E. coli were investigated. Maximum production of the antibacterial compound was recorded at 18 h incubation at 30oC. Interestingly, antibacterial activity remained unchanged after heating at 121oC for 45 min, 24 h storage in temperature range of 70oC to room temperature, and 15 min exposure to UV light, and it was stable in the pH of range 2-10. The active compounds were inactivated by proteolytic enzymes, indicating their proteinaceous nature, and, therefore, referred to as bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances. Isolation and partial purification of the effective agent was done by performing ammonium sulfate precipitation and gel filtration chromatography. The molecular mass of the GFC-purified active compound (~3 kDa) was determined by Tris-Tricine SDS-PAGE. To predict the mechanisms of action, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of ultrathin sections of E. coli before and after antibacterial treatment was carried out. TEM analysis of antibacterial compounds-treated E. coli demonstrated that the completely altered bacteria appear much darker compared with the less altered bacteria, suggesting a change in the cytoplasmic composition. There were also some membrane-bound convoluted structures visible within the completely altered bacteria, which could be attributed to the response of the E. coli to the treatment with the antibacterial compound. According to the in vivo experiments oral administration of L. plantarum HKN01 resulted in recovery of infected BALB/c mice with Salmonella enterica ser. Typhimurium.

Zinc oxide nanorod arrays (ZnO NRs) were grown from ZnO seed-coated substrates in an aqueous solution by using the hydrothermal method for different growth periods varying from 5 min to 1 hour. The influence of the growth period of the ZnO nanorods on photovoltaic applications was studied in detail. Experimental results showed that utilization of the nanorod arrays lead to an enhanced the cell performance by increasing of light absorption and creation of a vertical direction for electron transport in the solar cells. A power conversion efficiency of 3.33% with an opencircuit voltage of VOC = 0.58 V, a short-circuit current of JSC = 10.05 mA/cm2 and a fill factor of FF = 54.35% was achieved for solar cells based on ZnO NRs with growth period of 20 min. Such solar cells with an optimal growth period are effective in light trapping, which leads to a significant enhancement in the absorption of light, and thereby, show an obvious increase in the power conversion efficiency.
