        Effect of local anesthesia on pulpal blood flow in mechanically stimulated teeth

        에피네프린을 함유한 국소마취제가 치수혈류량에 미치는 영향을 관찰하고, 이 국소마취가 와동 형성에 의해 야기되는 치수의 혈류변화에 미치는 영향을 평가하고자 전신마취된 아홉 마리의 고양이 견치에서 1 : 100,000 에피네프린이 함유된 2% 리도카인 용액으로의 국소 침윤마취 전후 및 와동형성 전후의 치수혈류를 laser Doppler flowmetry (Periflux4001, Perimed Co., Sweden)를 사용하여 측정하고 paired t-test로 통계분석하였다. 상아질 와동의 형성은 치수혈류의 현저한 증가를 초래하였다 (p < 0.05). 에피네트린을 함유한 리도카인의 침윤마취는 치수혈류를 유의하게 감소시켰다 (p < 0.05). 국소마취한 치아에서는 마취도지 않은 치아에 비해 와동형성시 유의하게 적은 치수혈류의 증가를 나타내었다 (p < 0.05). 따라서 본 연구에서는 혈관수축제를 포함한 국소마취가 와동 형성에 의해 초래되는 혈류량의 증가를 효과적으로 억제 할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다. The aims of the study were to evaluate the effect of epinephrine-containing local anesthetics on pulpal blood flow (PBF) and to investigate its effect on cavity preparation-induced PBF change. PBF was recorded using a laser Doppler flowmeter (Perimed Co., Sweden) from canines of nine cats under general anesthesia before and after injection of local anesthetics and after cavity preparation. 2% lidocaine hydrochloride with 1 : 100,000 epinephrine was administered by local infiltration given apical to the mandibular canine at the vestibular area and the same volume of isotonic saline was injected on the contralateral tooth as a control. A round carbide bur was operated at slow speed with isotonic saline flushing to grind spherical cavities with increasing depth through the enamel and into the dentin on both teeth. The obtained data was analyzed with paired t-test. Cavity preparation caused significant increase of PBF (n = 9, p < 0.05). Local infiltration of lidocaine with epinephrine resulted in decreases of PBF (n = 9, p < 0.05), whereas there was no significant change of PBF with the physiologic saline as a control. Cavity preparation on tooth anesthetized with lidocaine with epinephrine caused significantly less increase of PBF than in control tooth (p < 0.05). Therefore, the result of the present study demonstrates that local infiltration of 2% lidocaine with 1 : 100,000 epinephrine effectively reduces PBF increase caused by cavity preparation. 〔J Kor Acad Cons Dent 31(4):257-262, 2006〕

        Ro 5-4200 의 임상적 연구

        Benzodiazepine derivatives, chlordiazepoxide(Librium), diazepam(Valium), nitrazepam(Mogadon) and oxazepam(Serenid-D) are mainly used as hypnotics at present. Diazepam has been used mainly for premedication in anesthesia and as an intravenous anesthetic agent. The pharmacological actions of these drugs are tranquilizing effects for central nervous system, slight depression on the cardiovascular and respiratory system, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. A new benzodiazepine derivative, Flunitrazepam(Ro 5-4200) has strong hypnotic action, is anticonvulsant and antidepressant in spite of slight depression of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Furthermore the onset and duration of this drug are shorter than the others. In our clinical study, flunitrazepam in the dosage of 0.005mg/kg was administered intravenously, as an intravenous anesthetic induction agent, for 22 surgical adult patients. In each patient, the blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, minutes volume and arterial gas study were done, before and after administration of the Ro 5-4200. The results are as follows; 1. Dosage of this flunitrazepam is not constant as other benzodiazepines. 2. The effects of flunitrazepam on the cardiovascular system showed slight depression but no effect by one hour post-operation. 3. In respiratory system, the minute volume was depressed slightly and the respiratory rate was increased but negligibly. 4. Undesirable side effects attributed to this drug were not found, except the developing of cough (one case).

      • 몇 가지 뽕품종에 따른 오디의 형태 및 화학적 성분의 특성

        The morphological and chemical characteristics of leaves and fruits were observed in the three mulbewy varieties, including Daeryugppong(Morus Lhou(Ser.) koidz), Kugsang 20(Morus Lhou(Ser.) koidz) and Cataneo(Morus alba L.). The leaf development in spring was earliest in Cataneo and latest in Kugsang. Content of total nitrogen and Mg in leaf was the highest in Cataneo while that of P2O5, K and Ca in Daeryukppong. Flowers started to bloom from May 8 and in full bloom around May 15. Mature fruits began to set from June 10 to 15 and lasted by July 10 in Cataneo. Average fruit weight was Heaviest in Kugsang 20(3.52 g/fruit), while lowest in Daeryukppong(1.61 g/fruit). In fruits, glucose and fructose were the major sugars. Citric acid was the most abundant organic acid in three varieties with its average content from 0.8 to 0.14%. The major pigment in fruit was anthocyanin and its content varied among varieties. The stability of anthocyanin was evaluated under various pH, temperature, and sugar concentrations. Rutin was the major flavonol glycoside present in fruits and its content varied from 0.92 to 3.36 mg/gDW. Other flavonol glycosides such as isoquercitrin and quercitrin were also detected in fruit.

        유한 효과에 의한 Gadolinium 박막의 Curie온도 이동

        자화도를 측정함으로써 gadolinium박막의 강자성에서 상자성으로의 전이온도를 결정했다. 박막의 전이온도는 박막의 두께가 얇아짐에 따라 점점 더 bulk계의 전이온도보다 낮아지는 것이 관측되었으며 이 현상은 박막계의 유한성에 의해 일어나는 현상으로 알려져 있다. 우리는 이 결과를 유한효과 및 유한 축척이론에 근거하여 설명하였다. We determine the Curie temperature of thin gadolinium films by the measurement of magnetization as a function of temperature. From these data, we observe the Curie temperature shift in films from the bulk value, and also see the systematic behavior of this shift with thicknesses of films, that is, the larger the shift is, the thinner the film is. In this paper, we analyze and explain these results in light of finite-size scaling theory.

        Local Application of NK1 Receptor Antagonists and Pulpal Blood Flow in Cat

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of NK1 receptor antagonists on the pulpal blood flow (PBF) when applied iontophoretically through the dentinal cavity of the teeth in order to understand whether iontophoretically applied NKl receptor antagonists can control the pulpal inflammation. Eleven cats were anesthetized with alpha-chloralose and urethane, and substance P (SP) was administered to the dental pulp through the catheterized lingual artery in doses that caused PBF change without the influence of systemic blood pressure. NKl receptor antagonists were applied iontophoretically to the prepared dentinal cavity of ipsilateral canine teeth of the drug administration, and PBF was monitored. Data were analyzed statistically with paired t-test. PBF increase after iontophoretic application of the NKl receptor antagonists followed by the intraarterial administration of SP was significantly less than PBF increase after iontophoretic application of the 0.9% saline followed by the intra-arterial administration of SP as a control (p〈0.05). Iontophoretic application of the NK1 receptor antagonists (0.2-3.4 mM) following the intra-arteria1 administration of SP resulted in less increase of PBF than the iontophoretic application of the 0.9% saline following the intra-arterial administration of SP as a control (p〈0.05). Therefore, the results of the present study provide evidences that the iontophoretic application is an effective method to deliver drugs t o the dental pulp, and that iontophoretically applied NK1 receptor antagonists block SP-induced vasodilation effectively. The above results show the possibility that the iontophoretical application of NK1 receptor antagonists can control the neurogenic inflammation in the dental pulp.

      • A real time wear measurement system for tripod type constant velocity joints

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A real-time wear measurement system for tripod type Constant Velocity (CV) joints is proposed in this study. Adhesive wear on tripod type CV joints is very crucial to the life time of CV joints but it is very difficult to measure the wear depth of a tripod type CV joint separate from the drive shaft assembly. The wear measurement system developed in this study can measure the wear depth of a tripod type CV joint in real-time as it applies kinematics and forces to the CV joint.</P> <P>In order to apply the same motions as the motions of an actual CV joint, kinematics of the CV joint has been analyzed. As a result, reciprocating stroke and yaw motions have been completely implemented in the system. The wear measurement system comprises four parts. The first part is for applying normal forces to a set of spherical roller and housing track. One servo motor, spur gear and ball screw sets were employed to generate and augment the normal forces. The second and third parts are for applying reciprocating stroke and yaw motions, respectively. These parts synchronize with each other to make the same motion profiles as the actual CV joint. The fourth part is for measurement. This part consists of load cell and rotary encoder to measure the surge normal forces caused by the flaking phenomena and the wear depth caused by the adhesive wear. In the case of the encoder, the wear depth is augmented by the ball screw and spur gear sets so 0.18°/μm of measurement resolution can be achieved.</P> <P>For the validation of the system, a tripod type CV joint was selected, and its wear depth was measured by the system and the results were compared with the wear depth measured by a profilometer.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The real time measurement system is able to perfectly implement the motion of CV joints. </LI> <LI> The same kinematics and forces of a tripod type CV joint can be applied to the system. </LI> <LI> The set of spur gear and ball screw was employed to augment the wear depth. </LI> <LI> 0.18 degree/μm wear depth accuracy can be achieved by the system. </LI> <LI> Compared to the wear depth results by a profilometer, the system provides very accurate wear depth results. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Profiles of Bacillus spp. Isolated from the Rhizosphere of Suaeda glauca and Their Potential to Promote Plant Growth and Suppress Fungal Phytopathogens

        Members of the genus Bacillus are known to play an important role in promoting plant growth and protecting plants against phytopathogenic microorganisms. In this study, 21 isolates of Bacillus spp. were obtained from the root micro-ecosystem of Suaeda glauca. Analysis of the 16S rRNA genes indicated that the isolates belong to the species Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus velezensis, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus aryabhattai and Brevibacterium frigoritolerans. One of the interesting findings of this study is that the four strains B1, B5, B16 and B21 are dominant in rhizosphere soil. Based on gyrA, gyrB, and rpoB gene analyses, B1, B5, and B21 were identified as B. amyloliquefaciens and B16 was identified as B. velezensis. Estimation of antifungal activity showed that the isolate B1 had a significant inhibitory effect on Fusarium verticillioides, B5 and B16 on Colletotrichum capsici (syd.) Butl, and B21 on Rhizoctonia cerealis van der Hoeven. The four strains grew well in medium with 1-10% NaCl, a pH value of 5-8, and promoted the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana. Our results indicate that these strains may be promising agents for the biocontrol and promotion of plant growth and further study of the relevant bacteria will provide a useful reference for the development of microbial resources.
