Vol.0 No.57

Most recent studies on motivation have focused on individuals’ inner psychological characteristics or cognitive and affective aspects. Consequently, researchers have tended to focus less on the impacts of sociocultural contexts and the environment on literacy motivation and learning. In today’s education system, there is a lack of research into reading motivation from the sociocultural perspective, despite its necessity and significance. Therefore, this study aimed to emphasize and discuss reading motivation through sociocultural lenses. Thus, this study outlined the transitions and characteristics of motivation theories. It also discussed why it is necessary to research reading motivation through a sociocultural perspective and highlighted which research methods deserve attention. Further, the study explored what these sociocultural motivation theories can mean for reading education and research.

문화 전수자로서의 여성의 역할: Song of Solomon과 The Joy Luck Club 비교연구

Vol.3 No.2

This paper aimed at revaluing the meaning of woman as a cultural initiator by examining the novels, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. In those novels, the writer tried to reconstruct the neglected history of their immigrant societies in the United States. As they assimilated into American culture that had an multiple but mostly WASP- oriented, they gradually forgot their own culture and took it for granted that they were of American origin from the beginning. But the processes in admitting American culture, they had a conflict "who am I" from the racially and sexually discriminated circumstances. They had been protested, but in the course of closing the gap, they had an inner conflict from their native values from their elders. In Song of Solomon, Morrison tried to finding the meaning of native African community culture from the initiation process of Milkman Dead, who had a naive point of view on his society, by reconstructing the distorted myth of Solomon, who flies to Africa. In the process, Morrison cast reflections on the oppressed woman characters, especially on Pilate, his aunt, and other biblically named women. And from the Odyssey for searching his native culture, Morrison reconstructed the meaning of their community and their native culture from the history of women. And in The Joy Luck Club, Tan brought up the matter of generation gap between mothers and daughters to initiate their native Chinese culture. From the differences between them, they didn't understand each other in their ways of living from the cultural differences. Mothers tried and hoped their daughters to live American by the Chinese way of experiences from their tradition. Daughters didn't understand them in the first, but from the process of reflecting and sharing their experiences, they got to know each other’s way of finding the meaning in life, and the native Chinese culture transmitted in some mutual communication to the daughters. In some characteristics, those two novels shared the community spirit and the double consciousness the immigrant women had. In the course of initiating the cultural legacy, however, they had the differences in the way of reconstructing and communicating their native culture. Whatever the differences, however, those two novels had the meaning of finding the community construction from the individual American society, and had the meaning of maintaining the peculiar characteristics of their native culture from the multicultural America.

      • Dynamic Classification for Search Results of Ontology-based Contents

Vol.2012 No.4

Ontology is a framework for organizing information. It describes resources which are the objects of information systems and their relationships definitely and specifically. This characteristic of ontology enables intelligent information searching in many areas. Although the efficiency of searching itself has been improved, the reasonable methodology for classifying search result remains as an issue. Search result often consists of many items, so an efficient classification system can help users save the time reviewing items irrelevant to his purpose. Furthermore, most present classification systems are not dynamic; they are based on pre-defined categories. In this paper, we propose a novel classification methodology which can dynamically classify search result of ontology-based contents, specifically movies in considering of their similarities.

      • #ME AND BRAND: UNDERSTANDING THE BRAND-SELFIE POSTERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

        Yongjun Sung,Jung-Ah Lee,Sejung Marina Choi,Eunice Kim 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

As consumers take greater control over products and brands they consume, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) and user-generated content (UGC) are now being considered as one of the most critical product sources for consumers. Most notable in recent years has been the widespread emergence of eWOM in social media. The proliferation of a variety of social networking sites (SNSs), propelled by the development of mobile technologies (e.g., smartphones), has allowed consumers to share, more quickly and easily than ever before, product information, reviews, and consumption experiences. Perhaps one of the newest and most effective ways to communicate brand information and experiences in digital environments is the ‘brand-selfie.’ Every day, millions of selfies (i.e., a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media) are taken and then posted on a variety of SNSs all over the world, providing people the opportunity to show multiple facets of the self (Bazarova et al., 2013). Further, there are consumers who voluntarily post selfies with brands/products they possess (so called brand-selfies) and brand-related hashtags (e.g., your #brand). Through brand-selfies, consumers not only express themselves by connecting with and extending through brands, but also influence peer consumers’ brand attitudes and purchase decisions by sharing brand information. In order to better understand how the selfie can succeed on SNSs as a new form of eWOM, in the present study, we attempt to identify key predictive variables that may lead consumers to post brand-selfies and engage eWOM in social media. We do so by comparing how such variables differ between those who post brand-selfies and those who do not. Specifically, this study examines whether brand-selfie-posting behavior is influenced by two individual difference factors (i.e., narcissism and materialism), and whether it is associated with consumers’ beliefs that SNSs are brand/product information sources. Using a survey administered by an online panel, a total of 305 participants who had had the experience of taking and posting selfies on SNSs participated. Discriminant analysis identified the characteristics of consumers who post brand-selfies, and those who do not. Findings suggest that narcissism, materialism, and belief that SNSs are a brand/productinformation source are significant factors in stimulating SNS users’ brand-selfie posting behaviors, and that they could be used to differentiate between brand-selfie posters and no-brand-selfie posters. Of these factors, consumers’ perceptions of SNSs as a source of brand/product information best predicted brand-selfie posting behaviors, followed by materialism and narcissism. Areas for future research are discussed.

Preparation of PEO ceramic coating on Ti alloy and its high temperature oxidation resistance

        Yongjun Xu,Zhongping Yao,Fangzhou Jia,Yunlong Wang,Zhaohua Jiang,Haitao Bu 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.2

Ceramic coatings were prepared in Na2SiO3–Na2CO3–NaOH system by pulsed bi-polar plasma electrolytic oxidation on Ti–6Al–4V alloy. The phase composition, structure and the elemental distribution of the coatings were studied by XRD, SEM and energy dispersive spectroscopy, respectively. The thermal shock resistance of the coated samples at 850 ℃ was evaluated by the thermal shock tests. The high temperature oxidation resistance of the coating samples at 500 ℃ was investigated. The results showed that the coating was mainly composed of rutile- and anatase TiO2, Increasing the concentration of Na2SiO3, TiO2content decreased gradually while the thickness of the coating increased. There were a large amount of micro pores and sintered particles on the surface of the coatings. Increasing concentration of Na2SiO3, the sintered particles on the surface turned large, and the Si content increased while the Ti content decreased gradually. When the concentration of Na2SiO3 was 15 g/L, the thermal shock resistance of the coatings was better than that of the coatings that prepared under other Na2SiO3 concentrations. The coating samples prepared under the optimized technique process based on the thermal shock tests improved the high temperature oxidation resistance at 500 ℃ greatly, whether considering the isothermal oxidation or the cyclic oxidation.

      • Oviposition Behavior of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) on Host Plant Leaves with Different Trichome Densities

Vol.2009 No.05

This study was conducted to determine whether trichome density affects the oviposition behavior of adult female Tetranychus urticae Koch on host plant leaves. Experiments were conducted with twenty replications on the leaf discs of each plant (Pear, 'Niitaka'; Apple, 'Fuji'; Strawberry, 'Meahyang'; 3cm diameter) at 25℃, 60-70% RH and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. One female T. urticae was placed on each disc. The number and locations of laid eggs were recorded at 24 h intervals until T. urticae died. The trichomes were distributed along the midrib of abaxial surface of pear leaves but were evenly distributed on that of apple and strawberry leaves. Eggs were mostly laid along the midrib of pear leaf disc, but eggs were laid not only along the midrib but also randomly over the leaf disc of apple and strawberry. Therefore, it appeared that T. urticae preferred to lay eggs on the specific location where trichomes were densely distributed. Further study is needed to quantify how different distribution patterns of T. urticae eggs on different plant leaves affect the efficacy of predatory mites to control T. urticae.

      • Hybrid Codec-Based Intra-Frame Joint Rate Control for Stereoscopic Video

        Yongjun Chang,Kim, M. IEEE 2011 IEEE signal processing letters Vol.18 No.10

An intra-frame joint rate control scheme is first proposed for a hybrid coder to encode stereoscopic video, which is based on an optimization framework with a gradient-based quadratic rate-quantization model and a gradient-based linear distortion-quantization model. The proposed rate control scheme jointly works on the left and right encoders for stereoscopic video input by controlling the output bit rates of both encoders in the sense that the sum of the two decoded video qualities is maximized and the quality difference is maintained around a desired level for a given target bit budget at the same time. In experiments, the proposed intra-frame joint rate control scheme for the hybrid coder produces the average 0.62 dB gain in PSNR, 64.93% reduction in the mean PSNR differences and 72.04% reduction in the MSE of PSNR difference, compared with the independent rate control schemes of the MPEG-2 TM5 and H.264 JM 16.

      • Negative Refraction of Airy Plasmons in a Metal–Insulator–Metal Waveguide

        Yongjun Lim,Seung-Yeol Lee,Kyoung-Youm Kim,Junghyun Park,Byoungho Lee IEEE 2011 Photonics Technology Letters Vol.23 No.17

Airy plasmons in a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide are presented, where they can go through negative refraction. We show that the counterbending direction of Airy plasmons can be formed when they propagate through the MIM waveguide. By mainly focusing on the (1+1)-dimensional case of Airy plasmons, numerical estimation of Airy plasmons following negative refraction is given by the use of a rigorous coupled wave analysis technique. We believe that novel photonic devices and phenomena based on Airy plasmons interacting with negative index materials can be developed and applied.
