        Theoretical Study on Interactions between N-Butylpyridinium Nitrate and Thiophenic Compounds

        By using density functional theory calculations, we have performed a systemic study on the electronic structures and topological properties of interactions between N-butylpyridinium nitrate ([BPY]+[NO3]−) and thiophene (TS), benzothiophene (BT), dibenzothiophene (DBT), naphthalene (NAP). The most stable structure of [BPY]+[NO3]− ion pair indicates that hydrogen bonding interactions between oxygen atoms on [NO3]− anion and C2-H2 on pyridinium ring play a dominating role in the formation of ion pair. The occurrence of hydrogen bonding, π···H-C, and π···π interactions between [BPY]+[NO3]− and TS, BT, DBT, NAP has been corroborated at the molecular level. But hydrogen bonding and π···π interactions between [BPY]+[NO3]− and NAP are weak in terms of structural properties and NBO, AIM analyses. DBT is prior to adsorption on N-butylpyridinium nitrate ionic liquid.

        Distribution of I-SSR and mtDNA Variants in 19 Populations of Pinus densiflora in Korea, China and Russia

        I-SSR variants were analyzed to estimate level and distribution of genetic diversity in 19 populations of Japanese red pine in Korea (10 populations), China (6 populations), and Russia (3 populations). A total of 66 I-SSR variants were observed in the analyzed 551 individuals. All the analyzed individuals could be identified by DNA fingerprints-like individual specific amplicon profiles. Relatively higher level of genetic diversity within populations was observed in 19 populations of Japanese red pine (mean of 0.396) than other tree species. From the results of AMOVA with all 19 populations, relatively high degree of genetic differentiation ( ST=0.199) was allocated among populations although majority of genetic diversity was distributed within populations (80.01%), After dividing 19 populations into 3 geographic groups, the degree of population differentiation within groups was lowered to 0.153. The degree of population differentiation was decreased more to ST=0.135 by including only 10 Korean populations. Genetic relationships among 19 populations, reconstructed by UPGMA method, revealed 2 weak genetic groups. Three Russian populations were grouped with the most distantly located Chinese population of Xu Gou instead of 2 closely located Chinese populations of Mu Dan Jiang and Long Jing. The overall genetic relationships among the 19 populations were not coincided with geographic affinity. The discrepancy between genetic relationships and geographical distribution among the populations suggested that the analyzed populations might be undergone random changes in genetic composition. The probable cause of the random changes was discussed. PCR-RFLP analyses of mtDNA revealed no variation among 57 individuals selected from 19 populations. Results obtained in this study suggested that more careful approach should be made for preparing strategy for gene conservation of Japanese red pine in Korea, China, and Russia.

        Numerical investigation on radial impeller induced vortex rope in draft tube under partial load conditions

        The vortex rope phenomena appearing in a draft tube under partial load operations were investigated. The efforts were carried out by using a homogeneous equilibrium vapor-liquid two-phase model and a blending SST turbulence model, and the former takes account of the weak compressibility of mixed media. The vortex rope phenomena were induced by the radial impeller and three kinds of flow regimes were illustrated. Vortex rope was visible at some conditions and it displayed various patterns, while no obvious vortex rope was found under some conditions. It was found that the plant cavitation number determines that whether the vortex rope was visible or invisible. An interesting profile was that a secondary vortex filament ring entwining the vortex rope appeared clearly near the design condition. Both flow structures and pressure characteristics were studied to depict the vortex mechanism and the characteristics of the η-σ curves. Further analysis found that the shedding frequency of the vortex ring is similar with that of the precession movement.

        Flora of Offshore Islands in Shandong Province

        There are 474 species of native vascular plant distributed in offshore islands in Shandong Province, which belong to 262 genera and 82 families. The distribution types of genera of seed plant were classified into 15 types. Temperate characteristic is dominant in the flora of offshore islands and tropical characteristic ranks secondary. Therefore, some islands play the role of stepping islands. Furthermore, 98.85% of the total genera are monotypic or bitypic which shows the offshore habitat heterogeneity in Shandong Province.

        Lentivirus-Mediated Short-Hairpin RNA Targeting Protein Phosphatase 4 Regulatory Subunit 1 Inhibits Growth in Breast Cancer

        Purpose: Protein phosphatase 4 regulatory subunit 1 (PP4R1), as an interaction partner of the catalytic serine/threonine-protein phosphatase 4 catalytic subunit has been shown to involve in cellular processes and nuclear factor κB signaling. However, the functions of PP4R1 in human breast cancers remain unclear. This study is designed to explore the effect of PP4R1 knockdown on the biological characteristics of breast cancer cells. Methods: A lentivirus-mediated short hairpin RNA (shRNA) was designed to knockdown the expression of PP4R1 in ZR-75-30 breast cancer cells. The efficiency of lentivirus-mediated shRNA infection was determined using fluorescence microscopy to observe lentivirus-mediated green fluorescent protein expression and confirmed to be over 80%. PP4R1 expression in infected ZR-75-30 cells was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis. Cell proliferation and colony formation ability were measured by 3-(4,5-dimethyl- 2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and colony formation assay, respectively. Flow cytometry was used to measure cell cycle progression and cell apoptosis. In addition, apoptosis makers, including poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) and Caspase-3, were investigated in PP4R1- silenced ZR-75-30 cells by western blot assay. Results: We successfully constructed lentivirus-mediated shRNA to target PP4R1 in ZR-75-30 cells. MTT assay and colony formation assay showed the loss of PP4R1 suppressed the proliferation of ZR-75-30 cells. Flow cytometry analysis indicated cell cycle arrest and increased cell apoptosis in PP4R1 knockdown cells. Further, the apoptosis response in cells depleted of PP4R1 was illustrated by downregulation of PARP and upregulation of Caspase- 3. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PP4R1 could promote breast cancer cell proliferation and might play a vital role in breast cancer occurrence.
