Local Stereo Matching Using an VariableWindow, Census Transform and an Edge-preserving Filter
Vinh Quang Dinh,Dung Duc Nguyen,Vinh Dinh Nguyen,Jae Wook Jeon 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
In this paper, we propose an alternative blocking-matching approach to the correspondence problem in stereo matching. In blocking-matching algorithms, a local window is used to measure the similarity (or dissimilarity) between pixels of a stereo pair. Although some area-based stereo matching methods have been developed and work well in many kinds of regions such as textureless or object boundary regions, their performance can degrade when working in some types of radiometric conditions. Our proposed algorithm is an improved method that uses a non-parametric transform in the pre-processing step and an edge-preserving filter in the post-processing step. Input images are first pre-processed by the census transform, which makes the proposed method more robust when the image pair is captured in different light sources or camera exposure conditions. The window cost in our approach is computed from the transformed images using the Hamming distance, and the correspondence is finally chosen by a Winner-Takes-All strategy. The experimental results for the Middleburry images show that the proposed method outperforms test local stereo methods in radiometrically different images.
FPGA Implementation of LSB-Based Steganography
Vinh, Quang Do,Koo, Insoo The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2017 Journal of information and communication convergen Vol.15 No.3
Steganography, which is popular as an image processing technology, is the art of using digital images to hide a secret message in such a way that its existence can only be discovered by the sender and the intended receiver. This technique has the advantage of concealing secret information in a cover medium without drawing attention to it, unlike cryptography, which tries to convert data into something messy or meaningless. In this paper, we propose two efficient least significant bit (LSB)-based steganography techniques for designing an image-based steganography system on chip using hardware description language (HDL). The proposed techniques manipulate the LSB plane of the cover image to embed text inside it. The output of these algorithms is a stego-image which has the same quality as that of the original image. We also implement the proposed techniques using the Altera field programmable gate array (FPGA) and Quartus II design software.
Fuzzy-Based Motion Vector Smoothing for Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation
QUANG, Vinh Truong,HONG, Sung-Hoon,KIM, Young-Chul The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2010 IEICE transactions on fundamentals of electronics, Vol.93 No.8

We proposed a new motion vector (MV) smoothing using fuzzy weighting and vector median filtering for frame rate up-conversion. A fuzzy reasoning system adjusts the weighting values based on the local characteristics of MV field including block difference and block boundary distortion. The fuzzy weighting removes the affect of outliers and irregular MVs from the MV smoothing process. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently correct wrong MVs and thus improve visual quality of the interpolated frames better than conventional methods.

Rainfall and earthquakes are two major triggers for landslides. To assess annual rainfall-earthquake-induced landslide hazards, an ensemble model containing three modules: an uncertainty-analysis module, a simulation module and an output module was proposed. In the uncertainty-analysis module, the input parameters including the topography (slope, curvature), soil depth, rainfall, peak ground acceleration and soil physical properties were considered probabilistic rather than taking specific values. A rainfall-earthquake-induced landslide hazard assessment was carried out in the simulation module, which used two separate methods: a pseudo-static model and a Newmark displacement model based on probabilistic data, which were prepared in the uncertainty-analysis module using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. In the output module, the two landslide hazard evaluations were combined into one map. The combined landslide hazard provides a range of annual probabilities of landslide occurrence corresponding to specific confidence levels. The proposed model can be used for reliable forecasting at specific confidence levels.
Algorithms for Controlling Both the DC Boost and AC Output Voltage of Z-Source Inverter
Quang-Vinh Tran,Tae-Won Chun,Jung-Ryol Ahn,Hong-Hee Lee Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2007 IEEE transactions on industrial electronics Vol.54 No.5

This paper aims to achieve good performance for both the dc boost and the ac output voltage control of the Z-source inverter (ZSI). The algorithm to control linearly the capacitor voltage is suggested in order to improve the transient response for dc boost control of the ZSI. The peak value of the ac output voltage is used to control exactly the ac output voltage to its desired level. A modified space vector pulsewidth modulation scheme is applied to control the shoot-through time for boosting dc voltage. The proposed algorithms are verified with simulation and experiment with a 32-bit digital signal processor.

Quang-Vinh Tran,Tae-Won Chun,Hong-Hee Lee,Jung-Ryol Ahn 전력전자학회 2005 전력전자학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
The paper aims on an analysis for dc boost control using Z-source inverter. The modified space vector PWM method is used for controlling both the dc boost and ac output controls in the Z-source inverter. The capacitor voltage and the voltage stress of device with both the shoot-through time and modulation index are analyzed considering the zero state time of inverter. The theoretical analysis is verified with the simulation studies and experiments with 32-bit DSP.
The Algorithms for Controlling AC Output Voltage of Z-Source Inverter Using Modified SVPWM
Quang-Vinh Tran,Tae-Won Chun,Jang-Kyung Son,Lee-Hong Hee,Jung-Ryol Ahn 전력전자학회 2004 전력전자학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
This paper deals with an algorithm for controlling ac output voltage of Z-source inverter using Modified SVPWM (abbreviated as MSVPWM). Unlike the conventional space vector pulse width modulation, MSVPWM has one extra shoot-through zero time Tsh. During shoot-through zero time, both switches in a leg are conducted simultaneously in order to boost inverter output voltage to any desirable value regardless the line voltage. The algorithm to control linearly the capacitor voltage is suggested to improve the performance of Z-source inverter system. The performance of Z-source inverter using above algorithms is demonstrated in simulation results using PSIM.”

This paper proposed an ECAM (Electronic cam) control system which has simple and general structure. The proposed cam controller adopted the linear and polynomial curve-fitting method to generates a smooth cam profile curve function. Smooth motion trajectory of master actuator guarantees the good performance of slave motion and has an important effect on the interpolation quality of ECAM. The auto-tuning PID velocity controller was applied to overcome the uncertainties in ECAM, and the gains of the controller are updated continuously to ensure the consistency of system performance under varying working conditions. The robustness of system against the varying load torque disturbances and noises is guaranteed by using the load torque disturbance observer to suppress the disturbance on master actuator. The velocity compensator was applied to compensate the degradation of performance of slave motion caused from the varying driving speed of master motion. The stability and validity of the proposed ECAM control system was verified by simulation results.
