Multiple Complement Pathway-related Proteins Might Regulate Immunopathogenesis of Major Depressive Disorder

Preethi V. Reddy(Preethi V. Reddy ),Pinku Mani Talukdar(Pinku Mani Talukdar ),Manjula Subbanna(Manjula Subbanna ),Praerna H. Bhargav(Praerna H. Bhargav ),Rashmi Arasappa(Rashmi Arasappa ),Ganesan Venk 대한정신약물학회 2023 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.21 No.2

Objective: Exacerbated inflammatory pathway has emerged as a predominant etiological construct of major depressive disorder (MDD). Innate immune molecules like complement proteins induce inflammatory responses and also regulate key neurobiological processes. However, there is a dearth of literature on the impact of critical complement proteins in MDD. Herein, plasma profiling of seven complement proteins was carried out to obtain a better insight into the role of the complement pathway in MDD. Methods: Plasma levels of C1q, C3, C3b/iC3b, C4, Factor B, Factor H, and properdin were assayed in 22 patients with MDD and 27 healthy controls by multiplex suspension assay. The patients with MDD were diagnosed as per DSM IV-TR. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Montgomery Depression Rating Scale and Clinical Global Improvement were used for clinical assessments of the patients. The plasma levels of these complement proteins were also correlated with various clinical scores and phenotypes of MDD. Results: The patients with MDD and healthy controls did not differ in terms of age and gender (p > 0.1). The patients with MDD had a mean duration of illness of around 3 years, with average number of depressive episodes being 6 and the mean HAM-D score was 19. Of the seven complement components, the plasma levels of C1q, Factor B, and Factor H (p ≤ 0.05) were significantly elevated in MDD patients compared to healthy controls. However, the plasma levels of these complement proteins were not found to correlate with the clinical profile of MDD patients. Conclusion: Both Factor B and Factor H are crucial in the induction and regulation of the alternative pathway of complement activation. The alternative pathway also plays a critical role in inflammation. These findings suggest an important role of the alternative complement pathway in immuno-inflammation in MDD.

Are You Being Rejected or Excluded? Insights from Neuroimaging Studies Using Different Rejection Paradigms

Preethi Premkumar 대한정신약물학회 2012 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.10 No.3

Rejection sensitivity is the heightened tendency to perceive or anxiously expect disengagement from others during social interaction. There has been a recent wave of neuroimaging studies of rejection. The aim of the current review was to determine key brain regions involved in social rejection by selectively reviewing neuroimaging studies that employed one of three paradigms of social rejection, namely social exclusion during a ball-tossing game, evaluating feedback about preference from peers and viewing scenes depicting rejection during social interaction. Across the different paradigms of social rejection, there was concordance in regions for experiencing rejection, namely dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), subgenual ACC and ventral ACC. Functional dissociation between the regions for experiencing rejection and those for emotion regulation, namely medial prefrontal cortex, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) and ventral striatum, was evident in the positive association between social distress and regions for experiencing rejection and the inverse association between social distress and the emotion regulation regions. The paradigms of social exclusion and scenes depicting rejection in social interaction were more adept at evoking rejection-specific neural responses. These responses were varyingly influenced by the amount of social distress during the task, social support received, self-esteem and social competence. Presenting rejection cues as scenes of people in social interaction showed high rejection sensitive or schizotypal individuals to under-activate the dorsal ACC and VLPFC, suggesting that such individuals who perceive rejection cues in others down-regulate their response to the perceived rejection by distancing themselves from the scene.

      • A Review on Automation of Ancient Epigraphical Images

Preethi.P,Mamatha.H.R 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.4

Inscriptions are the main source of historical study available throughout the world in constricted language. Epigraphy is the study of such inscriptions and the one who reads and understands (epigraphists or epigraphers) are in extinct condition, due to lack of knowledge transfer and interest. New inscriptions are found during excavation and finding expert epigraphers these days is a real challenge. Due to this, Researchers from the digital enhancement domain are actively involved in the decipherment of inscriptions all over the world. Automation Techniques uses Optical character recognition to convert the inscriptions into intelligible language. Currently works are witnessed in the literature survey on the global languages like Greek, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Latin, Iranian and Indian languages like Kannada, Tamil, Devanagari, Brahmi, Hoysala, and Pali. This paper reviews the techniques followed in automation of epigraphical scripts.

Seamless Mobility of Heterogeneous Networks Based on Markov Decision Process

Preethi, G.A.,Chandrasekar, C. Korea Information Processing Society 2015 Journal of information processing systems Vol.11 No.4

A mobile terminal will expect a number of handoffs within its call duration. In the event of a mobile call, when a mobile node moves from one cell to another, it should connect to another access point within its range. In case there is a lack of support of its own network, it must changeover to another base station. In the event of moving on to another network, quality of service parameters need to be considered. In our study we have used the Markov decision process approach for a seamless handoff as it gives the optimum results for selecting a network when compared to other multiple attribute decision making processes. We have used the network cost function for selecting the network for handoff and the connection reward function, which is based on the values of the quality of service parameters. We have also examined the constant bit rate and transmission control protocol packet delivery ratio. We used the policy iteration algorithm for determining the optimal policy. Our enhanced handoff algorithm outperforms other previous multiple attribute decision making methods.

Three-dimensional imaging of progressive facial hemiatrophy (Parry-Romberg syndrome) with unusual conjunctival findings

        Preethi Balan,Subhas Babu Gogineni,Shishir Ram Shetty,Deepa D’souza 대한영상치의학회 2011 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.41 No.4

Progressive hemifacial atrophy, also known as Parry-Romberg syndrome, is an uncommon degenerative condition which is poorly defined. It is characterized by a slow and progressive atrophy affecting one side of the face. The onset usually occurs during the first two decades of life. Characteristically, the atrophy progresses slowly for several years, and then it becomes stable. Ophthalmic involvement is common, with progressive enophthalmos which is a frequent finding. Cutaneous pigmentation is common in such conditions, however its extension to the conjunctiva is rarely reported. We report a case of Parry Romberg syndrome with characteristic clinical and radiographic presentation accompanied with rare ocular findings. The clinical features, radiological findings, and differential diagnoses to be considered, and the available treatment options are discussed in this report.

Inhibition of TNFα-interacting protein α (Tipα)-associated gastric carcinogenesis by BTG2/TIS21 via downregulating cytoplasmic nucleolin expression

2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-

To understand the regulation of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated gastric carcinogenesis, we examined the effect of B-cell translocation gene 2 (BTG2) expression on the biological activity of Tipα, an oncoprotein secreted from H. pylori. BTG2, the human ortholog of mouse TIS21 (BTG2/TIS21), has been reported to be a primary response gene that is transiently expressed in response to various stimulations. Here, we report that BTG2 is constitutively expressed in the mucous epithelium and parietal cells of the gastric gland in the stomach. Expression was increased in the mucous epithelium following H. pylori infection in contrast to its loss in human gastric adenocarcinoma. Indeed, adenoviral transduction of BTG2/TIS21 significantly inhibited Tipα activity in MKN-1 and MGT-40, human and mouse gastric cancer cells, respectively, thereby downregulating tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα) expression and Erk1/2 phosphorylation by reducing expression of nucleolin, a Tipα receptor. Chromatin immunoprecipitation proved that BTG2/TIS21 inhibited Sp1 expression and its binding to the promoter of the nucleolin gene. In addition, BTG2/TIS21 expression significantly reduced membrane-localized nucleolin expression in cancer cells, and the loss of BTG2/TIS21 expression induced cytoplasmic nucleolin availability in gastric cancer tissues, as evidenced by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. Higher expression of BTG2 and lower expression of nucleolin were accompanied with better overall survival of poorly differentiated gastric cancer patients. This is the first report showing that BTG2/TIS21 inhibits nucleolin expression via Sp1 binding, which might be associated with the inhibition of H. pylori-induced carcinogenesis. We suggest that BTG2/TIS21 is a potential inhibitor of nucleolin in the cytoplasm, leading to inhibition of carcinogenesis after H. pylori infection.

      • A Novel RGB Channel Assimilation for Hyperspectral Image Classification using 3D-Convolutional Neural Network with Bi-Long Short-Term Memory

        M. Preethi,C. Velayutham,S. Arumugaperumal International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.3

Hyperspectral imaging technology is one of the most efficient and fast-growing technologies in recent years. Hyperspectral image (HSI) comprises contiguous spectral bands for every pixel that is used to detect the object with significant accuracy and details. HSI contains high dimensionality of spectral information which is not easy to classify every pixel. To confront the problem, we propose a novel RGB channel Assimilation for classification methods. The color features are extracted by using chromaticity computation. Additionally, this work discusses the classification of hyperspectral image based on Domain Transform Interpolated Convolution Filter (DTICF) and 3D-CNN with Bi-directional-Long Short Term Memory (Bi-LSTM). There are three steps for the proposed techniques: First, HSI data is converted to RGB images with spatial features. Before using the DTICF, the RGB images of HSI and patch of the input image from raw HSI are integrated. Afterward, the pair features of spectral and spatial are excerpted using DTICF from integrated HSI. Those obtained spatial and spectral features are finally given into the designed 3D-CNN with Bi-LSTM framework. In the second step, the excerpted color features are classified by 2D-CNN. The probabilistic classification map of 3D-CNN-Bi-LSTM, and 2D-CNN are fused. In the last step, additionally, Markov Random Field (MRF) is utilized for improving the fused probabilistic classification map efficiently. Based on the experimental results, two different hyperspectral images prove that novel RGB channel assimilation of DTICF-3D-CNN-Bi-LSTM approach is more important and provides good classification results compared to other classification approaches.

Variability and Teleconnections of South and East Asian Summer Monsoons in Present and Future Projections of CMIP5 Climate Models

        Bhaskar Preethi,Milind Mujumdar,Amita Prabhu,Ramesh Kripalani 한국기상학회 2017 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.53 No.2

Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) model outputs of the South and East Asian summer monsoon variability and their tele-connections are investigated using historical simulations (1861-2005) and future projections under the RCP4.5 scenario (2006-2100). Detailed analyses are performed using nine models having better representation of the recent monsoon teleconnections for the interactive Asian monsoon sub-systems. However, these models underestimate rainfall mainly over South Asia and Korea-Japan sector, the regions of heavy rainfall, along with a bias in location of rainfall maxima. Indeed, the simulation biases, underestimations of monsoon variability and teleconnections suggest further improvements for better representation of Asian monsoon in the climate models. Interestingly, the performance of Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator version 1.0 (ACCESS1.0) in simulating the annual cycle, spatial pattern of rainfall and multi-decadal variations of summer monsoon rainfall over South and East Asia appears to more realistic. In spite of large spread among the CMIP5 models, historical simulations as well as future projections of summer monsoon rainfall indicate multidecadal variability. These rainfall variations, displaying certain epochs of more rainfall over South Asia than over East Asia and vice versa, suggest an oscillatory behaviour. Teleconnections between South and East Asian monsoon rainfall also exhibit a multi-decadal variation with alternate epochs of strengthening and weakening relationship. Furthermore, large-scale circulation features such as South Asian monsoon trough and north Pacific subtropical high depict zonal oscillatory behaviour with east-west-east shifts. Periods with eastward or westward extension of the Mascarene High, intensification and expansion of the upper tropospheric South Asian High are also projected by the CMIP5 models.
