Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation of Abdominal Muscles to Improve Standing Balance

Background: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is used for muscle strengthening. While voluntary muscle contraction follows Henneman et al.’s size principle, the NMES-induced muscle training disrespects the neurophysiology, which may lead to unwanted changes (i.e., declined balance ability). Objects: We examined how the balance was affected by abdominal muscle training with the NMES. Methods: Fifteen young adults (10 males and 5 females) aged between 21 and 30 received abdominal muscle strengthening with NMES for 23 minutes. Before and after the training, participants’ balance was measured through one leg standing on a force plate with eyes open or closed. Outcome variables included mean distance (MDIST), root mean square distance (RDIST), total excursion (TOTEX), mean velocity (MVELO), and 95% confidence circle area (AREA) of center of pressure data. Two-way repeated measures analysis of variance was used to test if these outcome variables were associated with time (pre and post) and vision. Results: All outcome variables were not associated with time (p > 0.05). However, all outcome variables were associated with vision (p = 0.0001), and MVELO and TOTEX were 52.4% (45.5 mm/s versus 95.6 mm/s) and 52.4% (364.1 mm versus 764.5 mm) smaller, respectively, in eyes open than eyes closed (F = 55.8, p = 0.0005; F = 55.8, p = 0.0005). Furthermore, there was no interaction between time and vision (F = 0.024, p = 0.877). Conclusion: Despite the different neurophysiology of muscle contraction, abdominal muscle strengthening with NMES did not affect balance.
2i System Enhances Porcine Blastocyst Quality by Regulating of Epigenetic Modification

2i system is useful for maintenance of navie state of embryonic stem cells in various species. However, the role of 2i system in porcine preimplantation stage embryos unclear. In this study, we investigated the quality of blastocyst and pluripotent-related factor by 2i system. And, we also investigated about DNA and RNA epigenetic modification status by 2i system during porcine early embryo development. After treatment of MEK1/2 inhibitor PD0325901(4 μM), GSK-3 inhibitor CHIR99021(0.3 μM) and 2i (PD0325901+CHIR99021) during pre-implantation development, blastocyst formation rate had no significantly difference. However, blastocyst size increased in 2i treatment embryos. Blastocyst quality also increased after treatment of CHIR and 2i using TUNEL assay and Brdu assay. Interestingly, main transcription factor OCT4 and SOX2 positive cells in blastocyst was significantly increased in 2i groups. Especially, histone modification- relation proteins like h3k9me3 and h3k9ac changed after treatment of CHIR and 2i. Global gene expression patterns related with pluripotency and epigenetic also changed in inhibitor treatment groups. Furthermore, bi-sulfite sequencing results showed that 2i treatment groups demethylated in satellite I region. In conclusion, our findings strongly suggest that 2i system can be useful method for increasing of blastocyst quality by affecting of ICM/TE formation by regulating epigenetic modification during early embryo development.

As EURO-6 regulations will be enforced in 2014, simultaneous reduction of NOx and PM emissions becomes an important issue in recent diesel engine research. New combustion concepts, such as LTDC and pHCCI, have been introduced to overcome the NOx and PM trade-off relation. However, these novel combustion concepts are usually implemented with a high EGR rate and by advancing the main injection timing which cause high CO and THC emissions along with poor fuel consumption due to low combustion efficiency. Therefore,the split injection strategy, which was consisted of applying post injection close to the main injection, was carried out in this experiment. Specifically, two different nozzles – a 7-hole conventional nozzle and a 12-hole double-row nozzle – were evaluated to determine the effects of nozzle configurations on engine-out emissions. The result shows that CO emission was reduced by the close post injection strategy regardless of the nozzle configuration. However, THC and PM emissions were reduced only when the 12-hole doublerow nozzle was used. Thus, the use of close post injection with the 12-hole double-row nozzle could increase the combustion efficiency in heavy EGR conditions.
Analysis of Properties of Deconstruction & Hair Expression Components in Maison Margiela COLLECTION

Purpose: Art, fashion, and beauty in modern society are changing the trend of fashion with the development of the fourth industry. As the self-beauty method through SNS such as YouTube and Instagram is widely known, the social value of hair designers is decreasing. In order to increase the value of hair designers, it is meaningful to analyze the characteristics of deconstructionism and hair expression elements in the Maison Margiela collection to understand the modern trend and to present a method of creating creative hair design. The purpose is to increase the value of the hair designer. Method: Maison Margiela Collection 2015 S/S-2019 F/W photographs are extracted from professional fashion magazines Livingly, First View, and Vogue for analysis. Three experts participated in the analysis to reduce subjective views of the data and increase reliability, and analyzed using the SPSS WIN 25.0 program. Results: Property cross-analysis of the Maison Margiela collection & Properties of Deconstruction suggests that 2019 F/W for Differance, 2016 S/S for Uncertainty of Meaning, and 2018 S/S for Decomposition are significant to each other. The hair expression component results were highest in form 2016 S/S, texture 2019 F/W, color 2016 F/W, and object 2018 F/W. We can find the significances between these groups. Although object accounted for the largest portion in Uncertainty of Meaning, and Decomposition, and also Differance accounted for the largest proportion in deconstruction Hair Expression Components per properties, we found that there was no significance between them. Conclusion: Deconstruction & the expression components expressed in Maison Margiela are related with each other, and objects were high in all categories of deconstruction and Hair Expression Components. objects can be seen as enough to express individuality as a hair expression element. In order to enhance each individual's personality and expand the hair expression elements, hair designers should increase the social Value of the individual hair designer by presenting various directing methods tailored to the customer during styling.

As vehicle emissions regulations have become stricter, improving injection strategies and using high EGR rates has become important to reduce engine-out emissions. Previous research has found that, a multiple injection strategy with a pilot or post injection has the potential to improve the distribution of the air-fuel mixture or oxidation. Thus, it is important to determine the effect of multiple injection strategies on the engine-out emissions. Especially, since the latest diesel engines have used high EGR rates to reduce NOx emission, the target of emissions is different from that of moderate EGR rate condition. Under heavy EGR rate condition, it is needed to improve combustion efficiency by reduction of CO and THC emissions. Therefore, in the first research as part 1, the effects of pilot injection on the engine-out emissions were systemically evaluated for two different EGR rate conditions (30 % and 60 %). The characteristics of the pilot injection were different between the two EGR rate conditions because the behavior of diesel combustion is significantly different when the EGR rate is changed. This research condition was investigated using varying injection parameters such as the timing and quantity of the pilot injection. The results show that each different pilot injection strategy was suggested between two EGR rate conditions to reduce engine-out emissions. Under moderate EGR rate condition, very earlier pilot SOI with large amount has the potential to reduce NOx and PM emissions simultaneously. On the other hand, under heavy EGR rate condition, the closest pilot SOI to main SOI has the potential to reduce CO and THC emissions.
