Compilation of novel surfactant–protein mixtures has always been an intriguing and fascinating domain owing to their implications in industrial and cosmetic realms. In this regard, herein; we have synthesized a new cleavable gemini surfactant and investigated its influence on the structural characteristics of lysozyme via state-of-art techniques. Results have demonstrated the complex formation, unfolding and stabilization of lysozyme upon gemini surfactant combination. Docking/DFT has shown that gemini binds in the vicinity of hydrophobic residues (Trp/Tyr) and interacts via both electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions. This study may be significant to devise novel surfactant–protein mixtures for their end use at industrial stratum.

In this communication we have observed that cleavable gemini surfactant micelles inducefluorescenceswitching in novel probe (bound to lysozyme) at lower concentrations ( 2.63 mM) compared toconventional surfactants, which are known to induce such phenomenon at above 30 mM. Fluorescenceswitching being important in sensing, binding, and probing the conformational states of proteins;therefore, in future this study could be significant to protein analytics and other relevant industrialdomains.

Big Data is a term used to identify the datasets that due to their large size, is very difficult to manage with traditional techniques. This data may be in the order of magnitude of petabytes. It can be found easily on web, especially on social media in the form of customer blogs, reviews and comments. Generally it is unstructured data or semi-structured data. One can use this big data to generate values by calculating sentiment score. Map Reduce is one of the most popular algorithm in Hadoop environment to perform such task. The objective of present research is to automate the process of extracting sentiments expressed about specific features of a product. For this purpose three datasets generated by Amazon for different types of electronics product reviews has been used. The data sets used consists of reviews of the products Nikon Coolpix 4300 Camera, Nokia 6601 mobile and the Canon G3camera. Map Reduce algorithm on Hadoop environment that is considered faster, reliable and fault-tolerant for processing big amounts of data in-parallel on large clusters, has been used to extract sentiment score.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) belonging to the family Zingiberaceae is a perennial herb. It is widely distributed in tropical Asia. In India, it is cultivated mainly in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra. It is one of the most common spices, which is in use since centuries for its versatile medicinal actions like antiemetic, stomachic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, aphrodisiac etc in traditional system of medicine (Unani, Ayurveda, and Chinese medicine). It is useful for the treatment of various gastrointestinal, pulmonary, cardiovascular and sexual disorders. The phytochemical study of ginger showed the presence of many volatile oils and oleo-resins like gingerol, zingerone, zingiberol etc. Numerous experimental and clinical trials have proven ginger for its range of therapeutic activities such as antibacterial, antidiabetic, antiemetic, hypolipidaemic, hepatoprotective etc properties. The present article aims to explore traditional Unani and pharmacological activities of this herb reported till date.

<P>The reaction of chiral <I>cis</I>-[(1<I>S</I>,2<I>S</I>)-<I>dch</I>]Pt(NO3)2 (M) [where (1<I>S</I>,2<I>S</I>)-<I>dch =</I> (1<I>S</I>,2<I>S</I>)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane] with a hexadentate ligand (L) in 3 : 1 stoichiometric ratio yielded a [12+4] self-assembled chiral M12L4 molecular tetrahedron (T). The cage T features an internal 3D nanocavity with large open ‘windows’, enabling it to catalyze Michael addition reactions of a series of nitrostyrene derivatives with indole in a 9 : 1 water : methanol mixture.</P>

Background: Chronic inflammation is considered as an important factor in the pathogenesis of lung cancer. The presence of inflammatory cells and higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the tumor microenvironment and their surrounding tissues is gaining much importance in research. Materials and Methods: One hundred ninety NSCLC cases and 200 age, smoking and sex matched controls were evaluated for association of IL-8 -251 (rs4073) and IL-8 -845 (rs2227532) in our population. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) was used followed by direct sequencing for the detection of SNPs. Results: The IL-8 -845 polymorphism was not found in our population. No significant association was observed between the IL-8 -251 AT genotypes and IL-8 -25 AA genotypes and NSCLC (p=0.05) in our population. The IL-8 -251 A allele was also non-significant (p=0.05) in NSCLC patients. Conclusions: In conclusion, this report reveals lack of association between IL-8 - 251 A/T polymorphism and NSCLC in our Kashmir Valley population.
