An Efficient Hybrid Penalty Method for Pricing American Options

We propose a hybrid numerical method for computing the prices of American options. In order to solve efficiently and accurately the linear complementarity problem arising in the valuation of American options, the proposed method initially applies the penalty method to annihilate the nonlinear error from the free boundary, then performs the θ-method with projection to solve the rest of the problem quickly. Numerical computations show that the proposed hybrid method is more efficient than other existing methods for a given level of accuracy.

A new hybrid method with adaptive time steps is proposed in order to valuate exotic options efficiently. The new method uses small time steps near expiration date, due to the discontinuity or non-smoothness of payoff functions of exotic options. In particular, the new method is hybrid finite difference method, namely starting the computation with a fully implicit finite difference method for a few time steps for accuracy then perform a θ-method during the rest of computation for efficiency. Numerical experiments show that the new method is much more efficient than fully implicit method and hybrid methods with uniform time steps for standard binary, binary barrier and American options.

1980년대 중국의 다다운동 연구 -황용핑의 샤먼 다다 활동을 중심으로-

샤먼 다다는 1983년부터 1986년까지 중국 푸젠성의 샤먼에서 일어났던 현대미술 운동이다. 1980년대 중국은 문화혁명 이후 새롭게 문화와 예술이 피어나는 시기였다. 이 시기에 전국에서는 수많은 예술운동이 일어났으며 이들은 이후 89년현대예술전을 통해 하나의 조류로 정리되었다. 85신조라고 이후 이름 붙여진 예술운동 중 하나였던 샤먼 다다는 황용핑, 린춘 등의 작가들을 중심으로 20세기초 스위스에서 일어났던 다다이즘을 표방하여 반예술을 주장했다. 때문에 이들의 작품과 전시 활동은 85신조의 많은 예술운동 중에서도 가장 파격적인 형태였다. 특히 1986년 샤먼 신예술관에서 열린 《샤먼현대예술전》과 전시 후의 “전시작품개조, 훼손과 소각활동” 퍼포먼스는 중국 현대미술에 유래가 없던 극단적인 예술활동이었다. 86년부터 89년까지 샤먼 다다는 여러 전시와 퍼포먼스 등을 통해 당시 주류였던 전통적인 평면 회화나 조각과 완전히 다른 작품 세계와 기존 시스템에 대한 전복을 꿈꾸었다. 본고는 1980년대 중국에서 샤먼 다다라는 현대예술운동이 일어났던 배경부터 성립과 전개를 당시 발표되었던 사진 자료와 보도를 통해 살펴본다. 이들의 전시와 작품은 『중국미술보』등의 매체를 통해 중국현대미술계에 알려져 큰 반향을 가지고 왔다. 특히 황용핑은 자신의 글을 통해 샤먼 다다의 이론을 정립하는 등 주도적인 역할을 하였다. 샤먼 다다는 유동적인 단체였고 활동기간 또한 아주 짧았다. 하지만 문화혁명이 끝나고 막 예술과 문화가 표현을 시작하던 시기에 다른많은 예술운동들이 중국의 정치적 상황과 초기적인 작가들의 표현문제를 중점으로 다루었던 것과 달리 샤먼 다다가 예술과 작가의 근원적 문제에 접근하려 하였다는 것은 이들과 85신조의 다른 예술운동과의 가장 큰 차이였다. 또한 황용핑은 비트겐슈타인과 선종의 이론을 바탕으로 다다이즘의 재해석을 시도 하였다. 때문에 샤먼 다다는 비록 짧은 기간과 한정된 작품 수에도 불구하고 이후의 중국현대미술에 큰 영향을 주었다. 이에 본고는 샤먼 다다에 대한 연구가 중국현대미술의 다양성을 이해하고 새로운 시각을 제공하는데 큰 도움을 주리라 생각된다. Xiamen Dada is the Modern Art Movement occurred in Xiamen, a city of Fujian province China, from 1983 to 1986. In 1980s, China had the new blossoming period of Cultures and Arts after the China Cultural Revolution. In this period, many Art movements occurred from all over the China, and they became a new art wave called ‘85 New Wave movement. Xiamen Dada, which is one of the Art group of ‘85 New Wave’ claimed Anti-Art which expressing the Dadaism occurred in Switzerland during early 20th century. The Xiamen Modern Art exhibition, held in Xiamen New Art Center in 1986, and the performance that incinerating all the art works after the exhibition was the most extreme case of China modern art activity. This study explores from the background of Xiamen Dada Modern in 1980s China to the formation and development based on the photograph documents and press release at the time. These exhibitions and Huang Yongping’s article “Xiamen Dada: A Kinds of post modernism?” released through the ‘Fine Arts in China’ and other media resonated with Chinese modern art. Xiamen Dada was a flexible group and had short period of movement in China modern art history. However, from the historical point of view, Xiamen Dada was a distinctive movement that tried to approach the fundamental problems of art and artists. It was different from the other ‘85 New Wave’ that focused on China’s political situation, in the restarting period Chinese artists can express art and culture, right after the Cultural revolution. Besides, Huang YongPing re-interpreted Dadaism based on Wittgenstein’s and Zen meditation. Hence, even though Xiamen Dada had short period of time and limited art works, it has powerful influence on Chinese arts after. Therefore, this study of Xiamen Dada is expected to help in understanding diversity of Chinese contemporary art and providing new perspectives on Art.

Importance and Limitation of Subject Matter Education in Special Education - Focused on Lebate on Speciality and Generality of Special Education-

Recent special education of Korea faces a rapid change. Recently Korean special education faces a rapid change. 「Special Education Improvement Act」 was abolished and 「Special Education Laws for Persons with Disabilities and Others」 were enacted and executed from May of 2008 and as special educational teacher' s ceπificate was issued by course like kindergarten, elementary and secondary special educational teachers license, division by the areas of disabilities was also abolished. Thus, the 7th special school curriculum was changed into revised curriculum in 2008 and applied from 2009, and after that, according to the real-time revision system of curnculum, special education curriculum for 2010 was newly notified on Dec. 20, 2010 and detailed criteria for acquiring special educational teachers' certificate which is the foundation of curriculum for training special educational teachers were revised in 2009 and it was applied from new teacher recruitment examination for 2009. Therefore, this study aims to examine radical changes of Korean special education from three perspectives inc1uding perspective of special education goals (from speciality to generality), that of special education related laws (from special law to general law) and that of special education methods (from separate education to inc1usive education) and consider the current problems in the field of special education like importance and lirnitation of curriculum education in special education.

Analysis of the Research Trend on the Quality of Life in People with Disabilities -Focused on Master's Theses from 1997 to 2009-

The researches on the quality of life(QOL) is very significant as the index of evaluating how universal life we enjoy as hurnan beings whether we have disability or not. Furtherroore, in addition to convenient facilities service for disabled people, other related services such as special education assistant and caregiver for disabled people have been expanded and improved recently in the fields of special education and welfare of disabled people. Under such circumstances, researches on the QOL of disabled people are very meaningful. This study analyzed 28 master's theses on disabled people published in Korea to exan1ine the research trends of the QOL of disabled people. This study reviewed study methods for the QOL of disabled people and research trends of each disability area and each study field found in master's theses published in Korea from 1997 to 2009 and presented the discussion of scientific research direction for the QOL of disabled people in Korea.

현대 민주주의 이론에 기초한 PR 정체성 탐색 : 엘리트, 숙의, 경합적 민주주의에 관한 슘페터, 하버마스, 무페의 사상을 중심으로

PR 연구의 지배적 패러다임은 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션 모델에 기초해 유지되어 온 조직 중심의 기능적 연구였다. 본 연구는 다양한 PR 연구 패러다임을 탐색해 보기 위해 민주주의 이론들을 바탕으로 PR이 갖는 정체성을 성찰해 보고자 했다. 이를 위해 20~21세기 초까지 정치학에서 현대 민주주의 이론들이 전개되어 온 과정과 PR학에서 논의된 PR 모델들을 자기성찰적으로 비교 검토함으로써 양자 간의 상호 연관성을 탐색하였다. 1950년대까지 민주주의 이론을 사실상 지배했던 엘리트주의는 20세기 초 등장했던 선전 모델과 밀접하게 연결되어 있으며, 20세기 후반 주도적 민주주의 이론으로 부상한 숙의 민주주의는 동 시대에 PR학을 지배한 쌍방향 균형 모델과 일정 부분 상응하였다. 한편 숙의 민주주의에 반발하며 등장한 급진적 민주주의 계열의 경합적 민주주의는 수사학적 옹호 모델의 정치 철학적 기반이 될 수 있을 것으로 평가되었다. 이처럼 민주주의 이론 연구의 시각에서 PR 모델들을 고찰함으로써 사회적 맥락에서 PR이 갖는 정체성을 탐색하였으며, 포퓰리즘과 탈진실의 담론이 확산하는 전환기적 상황에서 민주주의의 퇴보를 막기 위해 다각적인 PR 연구의 필요성을 제시하였다. The dominant paradigm of public relations research has been organization-centered functional research on the basis of two-way communication model. This paper reflects on the identity of public relations in the democratic polity in an effort to pursue multiple paradigms in public relations research. By reviewing and comparing literature introspectively on the historic evolution of modern democratic theories and those of public relations models from the beginning of 20th century until the beginning of the 21<SUP>st</SUP> century, the relations between them have been explored. Elitism that had dominated the discussion on democratic theories until 1950’s was closely connected to and embraced Propaganda model which had been introduced in the early 20<SUP>th</SUP> century. Emergence of deliberative democracy as a leading democratic theory in the late 20<SUP>th</SUP> century corresponds to the dominance of two-way communication model over public relations research in the same era. On the other hand, agonistic democracy along the lines of radical democracy presented against deliberative democracy may become a potential theoretical basis of rhetorical advocacy model in light of political philosophy. As such the identity of public relations in social contexts has been explored by reviewing public relations models from the perspectives of democratic theories’ research. It presents the needs to research further the meaning of public relations in transitionary times with the spread of populism and post-truth discourses.

A study of wave trapping between two obstacles in the forced Korteweg-de Vries equation

<P>In the forced Korteweg-de Vries equation, a trail of waves can be temporarily trapped between two bumps. Wave propagations vary depending on the solution types and the form of the bumps. In this paper, we study the propagation tendencies of these temporarily trapped waves and especially consider the solitary and flat top solutions over the bumps of different distances and heights. A concept of energy related to wave speeds is defined in the region between the bumps, and it turns out that the trapped waves have to overcome a certain threshold of energy in order to escape out of the region. The numerical investigations are focused on the influence of the distance and the height of the bumps on the energy barrier.</P>
