The oscillation voltage (Ebm) is an important parameter of the characteristic constant of a high power microwave generator. When Ebm could be made high, it serves so as to improve the power conversion efficiency of a magnetron. Thus, the newly developed magnetron with 7% higher oscillation cut-off voltage than the present conventional one is manufactured by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd, In addition to this, the utility AC power line current reduced harmonic type direct inverter AC-DC power converter suitable and acceptable for driving this magnetron is proposed in this paper. This direct high frequency inverter type soft switching PWM AC-DC converter has the voltage-boost function based on active clamp scheme with soft switching pulse modulation strategy topology. This paper describes a novel type active clamp AC-DC power converter circuit defined as direct high frequency inverter and the switching operation of this power converter is described and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The operating characteristics of this soft switching direct high frequency inverter type AC-DC power converter using IGBTs that incorporates the harmonic current improvement as well as power factor correction are evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view as compared with the conventional AC-DC power converter.

At present, the cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) using mercury lamp has been generally used for liquid crystal backlight source of personal computer and car navigation and so on. This kind of lamp is more excellent on luminance performance and cost. However, the requirements of liquid crystal backlight due to a light source without mercury have been strongly increased from a viewpoint of the actual influence on environmental preservation and environmental recycling. As fluorescent lamp without mercury, Dielectric Barrier Discharge based rare gas fluorescent lamp (DBD-FL) using xenon (Xe) gas has been studied so far. This DBD lamp has no influence on the human body and environmental recycle. Its operating life is long because electrode IS out. In this paper the simulation and experimental results of soft switching high frequency inverter with reverse blocking single switch as a high frequency power supply circuit for DBD-FL using Xe gas are comparatively evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.

In this paper, a novel topology of soft switching PWM high frequency AC power conversion conditioning and processing circuit without DC smoothing Capacitor filter link from the voltage grid of commercial utility frequency AC power supply source with 60Hz-100V or 60Hz-200V is proposed and introduced for next generation consumer induction heating (IH) boiler applications as a hot water<br/> producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The operating principle of commercial utility frequency AC (LFAC) to high frequency AC (HFAC) power frequency conversion soft switching circuit defined as high frequency soft switching cycloinverter is described, which can efficiently operate under a principle of zero voltage soft switching and regulate by means of positive and negative alternate asymmetrical PWM synchronized with the commercial utility frequency single phase AC voltage. The dual mode control scheme based on<br/> high frequency PWM and commercial frequency AC voltage PDM for high frequency cycloinverter are discussed in order to extend its soft switching commutation operating range in spite of power regulation ranging from low power to high power setting. This power frequency changer as high frequency cycloinverter is developed originally for the high frequency induction heating boiler in promising consumer<br/> and industrial fluid pipeline systems.<br/> It is verified on the basis of experiment and simulation results of the soft switching high frequency cycloinverter using IGBTs which is more suitable for the business-use IH boiler using new electromagnetic induction heating dual packs fluid heater. Finally, the power regulation characteristics in addition to utility AC side line current harmonic components and power factor characteristics and power conversion efficiency characteristics of this high frequency cycloinverter treated here are evaluated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

In this paper, a constant frequency phase shifting PWM controlled voltage source full bridge-type series load resonant high-frequency inverter using the IGBT power modules is presented for innovative consumer electromagnetic induction heating applications such as a hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The full bridge arm side link passive quasi-resonant capacitor snubbers in parallel with the each power semiconductor device and high frequency AC load side linked active edge inductive snubber-assisted series load resonant tank soft switching inverter with a constant frequency phase shifted PWM control scheme is discussed and evaluated on the basis of the simulation and experimental results. It is proved from a practical point of view that the series load resonant and edge resonant hybrid high-frequency soft switching PWM inverter topology, what is called class DE type, including the variable-power variable-frequency (VPVF) regulation function can expand zero voltage soft switching commutation range even under low output power setting ranges, which is more suitable and acceptable for induction heated dual packs fluid heater developed newly for consumer power utilizations. Furthermore, even in the lower output power regulation mode of this high-frequency load resonant tank high frequency inverter circuit it is verified that this inverter can achieve ZVS with the aid of the single auxiliary inductor snubber.

This paper presents soft switching zero voltage switching high frequency inverter for rare gas fluorescent lamp using dielectric-barrier discharge phenomenon. The simple high-frequency inverter can completely achieve stable zero voltage soft switching (ZVS) commutation for wide its output power regulation ranges and load variations under its constant high frequency pulse density modulation(PDM) scheme. The experimental operating performances of this high frequency inverter are illustrated as compared with computer simulation results and experimental ones. Its light dimming characteristics due to power regulation scheme are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The feasible effectiveness of this high frequency inverter appliance implemented here is proven from the practical point of view.

This paper discusses the circuit topologies for simple three-level phase shift ZVS-PWM DC-DC converters in addition to the proposed three-level diode clamped and flying capacitor hybrid phase shift soft switched PWM high frequency link DC-DC converters for industrial gas metal arc welding machines. The arc welding machines for TIG, MIG and MAG require low voltage and large current DC output for high frequency linked DC-DC converters. These three-level type soft switched PWM converter topologies are suitable for some industrial applications mentioned above because of keeping the reduced device voltage capability for wide load ranges and wider soft switching operating ranges as compared to the full bridge converter. This paper is concerned with the comparative three topologies of diode clamping, flying capacitor and diode clamping and flying capacitor hybrid DC-DC converters. In this paper, the circuit operation principles of these three-level soft switched PWM DC-DC converters, soft switching operating ranges and power regulation characteristics are evaluated on the basis of simulations and experiments from a practical point of view.
