<P><B>Objective: </B> To compare the mid‐term oncological outcome of laparoscopic radical cystectomy (LRC) with those of open radical cystectomy (ORC).</P><P><B>Methods: </B> From June 2003 to February 2008, 36 LRCs were carried out at our institute for the treatment of bladder cancer. Clinical and oncological data were retrospectively analyzed. A match‐pair comparison with an historical series of 34 patients who were submitted to ORC between 1996 and 2003 was carried out.</P><P><B>Results: </B> Median follow‐up of the LRC group was 21 months (3–56 months). Pathological stage or grade was similar in the two groups. There was no significant difference between the LRC and ORC groups in terms of 3‐year overall (64.2% <I>vs</I> 72.6%, respectively; <I>P</I> = 0.682), cancer‐specific (73.0% <I>vs</I> 75.3%, respectively; <I>P</I> = 0.951), and recurrence‐free survival (70.5% <I>vs</I> 72.5%, respectively; <I>P</I> = 0.715) rates. In a subgroup analysis according to stage, there was also no significant difference in the 3‐year disease‐specific survival after LRC or ORC for organ‐confined (pT1 and pT2; 85.7% <I>vs</I> 83.9%, respectively; <I>P</I> = 0.256) or extravesical disease (pT3 and pT4; 73.3% <I>vs</I> 63.8%, respectively; <I>P</I> = 0.825).</P><P><B>Conclusion: </B> These findings suggest that LRC provides mid‐term oncological outcomes similar to those of ORC in the management of bladder cancer.</P>
Linking the Big Five Model of Personality to Knowledge Sharing Intention
Hau, Yong Sauk The Korea Society of Management Information System 2014 Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems Vol.24 No.3
This study aims at empirically analyzing the relation between employees' personality and their knowledge sharing intentions, on which enough light has not yet been shed in spite of its importance. By integrating the big five model of personality with social capital theory and social cognitive theory, this study develops six hypotheses concerning the relation and empirically tests them by using 724 samples collected from employees in practice. The empirical analysis results from this study reveal that employees' extroversion and agreeableness are positively associated with their social relations and that their openness to experience and conscientiousness are positively associated with their knowledge self-efficacy, which are positively related to their knowledge sharing intentions. Based on the new findings, theoretical and practical implications are provided for knowledge management researchers and managers in practice.
Magnetic Resonance Image Processing Based on FPGAs

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays an important role for medical imaging technology in brain anatomical studies. Many automatic algorithms have been proposed for analyzing magnetic resonance imaging data sets. With the increasingly large data sets being used in mapping, there are some limitations of the manual algorithms, such as long computation time and issues regarding reproducibility. There has been a significant rise in the need for accelerating these algorithms. This paper handled the partial volume estimation (PVE), a brain tissue classification algorithm for MRI, on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) as high performance reconfigurable computer using the Mitrion-C high-level language (HLL). FPGAs are very flexible and could achieve significant performance improvement by exploiting parallelism in processing. We used several simulated and real human brain MRI to evaluate the performance improvement of the proposed algorithm. The performance of probability density and prior information estimation implementation based on FPGAs achieved the overall speedup.

New technology development capability plays a key role in making small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increase their innovation performance, such as in product or process innovation. To examine the influencing factors of SMEs' new technology development capability, this study empirically analyzes the mediating effects of SMEs' process design capability and product interior design capability on the positive association between their external information network diversity and new technology development capability. This study performs the ordinary least squares regression on a sample of 2,000 South Korean SMEs. Results reveal that SMEs' process design capability fully mediates, and product interior design capability partially mediates the positive association between the external information network diversity and new technology development capability.

Under the background of inheriting national music culture, the inheritance and development of national music and regional culture has gradually attracted the attention of the society. As a cross-border ethnic group, Chinese Korean is one of the ethnic minorities with outstanding cultural traditions in the big family of the Chinese nation. In Korean traditional music, gayageum is a popular musical instrument with a broad mass base. Since the beginning of the new century, Korean gayageum art has been listed as "intangible cultural heritage" by the state, and people pay more and more attention to gayageum. With the spread of inheritance, gayageum inheritance activities are actively carried out in many fields of society, including primary and secondary schools at all levels. In many schools, the inheritance of traditional culture is an important part of school music education, and plays a key role in the inheritance of minority music culture. At the same time, it also faces some unfavorable problems, but leading talents with the excellence of this culture and the ability to popularize culture can solve this difficulty. For example, under the guidance of professional gayageum teachers, Xinxing Primary School in Yanji City inherited gayageum through extracurricular activities, and all students in the school gradually popularized the development of gayageum education model. This can improve students' national consciousness, master national music culture, improve national self-confidence and pride, and improve music accomplishment and overall quality. This study takes gayageum education in Xinxing Primary School in Yanji City as the starting point, analyzes the curriculum content, inherits and publicizes traditional culture by means of questionnaire survey and statistics, and tries to explore their achievements and inheritance status through the actual situation of gayageum in primary school music education.

In order to increase the effectiveness of technology R&D investment, it is essential for Korean small and medium sized-enterprises (SMEs) in the information technology (IT) sector to have good knowledge about the impacts of their internal and external technology R&D investments on their success in technology development. Accordingly, this research empirically analyzed the respective impacts of Korean IT SMEs' internal and external technology R&D investments on their success in technology development and compared their effect sizes. The statistical analysis results of this study by using the Cobb-Douglas type innovation production function and 310 samples collected fromKorean IT SMEs have presented the following findings which prior studies on SMEs' R&D investment have not shed enough light on so far. First, both internal and external technology R&D investments have positive impacts on Korean IT SMEs' success in technology development. Second, The effect of the internal technology R&D investment is about twice larger than the effect of the external technology R&D investment on Korean IT SMEs' success in technology development. Third, Korean IT SMEs' Cobb-Douglas type innovation production function shows the decreasing return to scale. Based on these findings, this research provides newmeaningful academic and practical implications for scholars and CEOs in Korean IT SMEs.
