The energy crisis involving depletion of fossil fuel resource is not the sole driving force for developing renewable energy technologies. Another driving force is the ever increasing concerns on the air quality of our planet, associated with the continuous and dramatic increase of the concentration of greenhouse gas (mainly carbon dioxide) emissions. The internal combustion engine is a major source of distributed $CO_2$ emissions caused by combustion of gasoline derived largely from fossil fuel. Another major source of $CO_2$ is the combustion of fossil fuels to produce electricity. New technologies for generating electricity from sources that do not emit $CO_2$, such as water, solar, wind, and nuclear, together with the advent of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and even all-electric vehicles (EVs), offer the potential of alleviating our present problem. Therefore, the relevant technologies in $LiFePO_4$ as cathode material for Li-ion batteries suitable to the friendly environment are reviewed aim to provide the vital information about the growing field for energies to minimize the potential environmental risks.
Femtosecond Photoelectron Imaging of N<sub>2</sub> at 410 nm

We experimentally measure the kinetic energy and angular distributions of photoelectrons of $N_2$ as a function of 410 nm femtosecond laser intensity by using velocity map imaging technique. The strong-field multiphoton ionization of molecules shares many of the characteristics with those of atoms. Electron kinetic energies are nearly independent of laser intensities. The independence suggests that the electron peaks in the photoelectron spectrum actually result from a two-step process, indicative of the occurrence of real population in the intermediate states. The relative amplitudes of electron peaks indicate that in the two-step process, nonresonant population transfer dominates for low intensities, while resonant population transfer dominates for higher intensities.

Background In recent years, studies have shown that cyfluthrin is harmful to the reproductive system. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide may be a protective agent. Objective To investigate the effect of cyfluthrin (Cy) on testosterone B (inhibin B, INHB) in male rats and the intervention of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP). Results Compared with the control group, the mRNA and protein expression levels of INH α and INH βB in the testis tissue decreased, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The LBP intervention group can significantly increase the expression level, and the difference is statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The decrease of INHα and INHβB expression caused by Cy exposure indicates that Cy has a toxic effect on the testis of rats, and the addition of LBP has a certain protective effect on the testis of rats. In this paper, two statistical methods were applied to optimize medium components to improve the production of the milk-clotting enzyme by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens D4. First, wheat bran juice, skim milk powder, and Na2HPO4 were shown to have significant effects on D4 enzyme production using the Plackett?Burman experimental design. Subsequently, an optimal medium was obtained using the Box?Behnken method, which consisted of 3.31 g/l of skim milk powder, 5.0 g/l of sucrose, 0.1 g/l of FeSO4?7H2O, 0.1 g/l of MgSO4?7H2O, 0.1 g/l of MnSO4?2H2O, 0.1 g/l of ZnSO4?7H2O, 1.52 g/l of Na2HPO4, and 172.45 g/l of wheat bran juice. With this optimal medium, the milk-clotting enzyme production was remarkably enhanced. The milk-clotting enzyme activity reached 3,326.7 SU/ml after incubation of 48 h, which was 1.76-fold higher than that of the basic medium, showing that the Plackett?Burman design and Box?Behnken response surface method are effective to optimize medium components, and B. amyloliquefaciens D4 possessed a high rennet-producing capacity in the optimal medium.
Chemical Constituents from the Aerial Parts of Isodon coetsa and their Cytotoxicity

Three new compounds (1-3), including a neolignan, a triterpenoid, and a diterpenoid, together with twenty known compounds (4-23), were isolated from the aerial parts of Isodon coetsa. Their structures and relative configurations were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Compounds 1, 3, 5-9, 11-13, 16-17, and 19-23 were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against HT-29, BEL-7402, and SK-OV-3 human tumor cell lines. Compound 7 showed significant inhibitory effects on all three types of cells, with IC50 values of 2.52, 3.06, 2.14 μM, respectively.
Focused region extraction based multi-focus image fusion method

To improve the quality of multi-focus image fusion result, a focused regions detection based fusion method was proposed in this paper. Firstly, a multi-scale morphological focus-measure strategy was used to generate the rough boundary between the focused and unfocused regions. Then some morphology processes were adopt to improve the boundary. After that the focused regions can be obtained and the fused image can be got by using the focused regions as decision map. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method achieved best quality in terms of both visual quality and objective measurements.
Amorphous phase separation in an Fe-based bulk metallic glass

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Although lanthanide elements play a critical role in increasing the glass forming ability and mechanical property alternation of Fe based bulk metallic glass (Fe-BMG), the atomic scale configuration of lanthanide in Fe-BMG remained unexplored. Here we have studied atomic configuration in the amorphous state of as-cast 4mm FeCoCrMoCBY bulk metallic glass sheet and its mechanical properties by nanoindentation, transmission electron microscopy, and atom probe tomography. The current results showed that yttrium rich clusters are enriched with carbon atoms in the amorphous state, and the three dimensional densities of these clusters can influence the hardness at the localized region.
