On the Betti numbers of three fat points in $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$
Giuseppe Favacchio,Elena Guardo 대한수학회 2019 대한수학회지 Vol.56 No.3
In these notes we introduce a numerical function which allows us to describe explicitly (and nonrecursively) the Betti numbers, and hence, the Hilbert function of a set $Z$ of three fat points whose support is an almost complete intersection (ACI) in $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1.$ A nonrecursively formula for the Betti numbers and the Hilbert function of these configurations is hard to give even for the corresponding set of five points on a special support in $\mathbb P^2$ and we did not find any kind of this result in the literature. Moreover, we also give a criterion that allows us to characterize the Hilbert functions of these special set of fat points.
INTERACTION EFFECT OF MONITORING ON INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIC ALLIANCES’ PERFORMANCE
Giuseppe Musarra,Constantine S. Katsikeas,Mathew Robson 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
We argue that a novel dark personality trait—the focal firm’s desire for control—may drive key decisions pertaining to how to monitor strategic alliances, which in turn can deter performance outcomes. Our conceptual model was tested based on a survey of 197 international strategic alliances. Results demonstrate that the firm’s use of process monitoring to oversee the counterpart drives its performance outcomes only if there is a low level of information exchange between alliance partners; as such, information exchange norms substitute for process monitoring. Whereas, the focal firm’s use of outcome monitoring enhances its performance outcomes only if it is reinforced by a high level of information exchange; that is, these two monitoring mechanisms complement each other in alliances.

In this paper, we present an integrated rail-to-rail fully differential operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) working at low-supply voltages (1.5 V) with reduced power consumption and showing high DC gain. An embedded adaptive biasing circuit makes it possible to obtain low stand-by power dissipation (lower than 0.17 mW in the rail-to-rail version), while the high DC gain (over 78 dB) is ensured by positive feedback. The circuit, fabricated in a standard CMOS integrated technology (AMS 0.35 μm), presents a 37 V/μs slew-rate for a capacitive load of 15 pF. Experimental results and high values of two quality factors, or figures of merit, show the validity of the proposed OTA, when compared with other OTA configurations.
On the Design of Orthogonal Pulse-Shape Modulation for UWB Systems Using Hermite Pulses
Giuseppe, Thadeu Freitas de Abreu,Mitchell, Craig-John,Kohno, Ryuji The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2003 Journal of communications and networks Vol.5 No.4
Orthogonal pulse-shape modulation using Hermite pulses for ultra-wideband communications is reviewed. Closedform expressions of cross-correlations among Hermite pulses and their corresponding transmit and receive waveforms are provided. These show that the pulses lose orthogonality at the receiver in the presence of differentiating antennas. Using these expressions, an algebraic model is established based on the projections of distorted receive waveforms onto the orthonormal basis given by the set of normalized orthogonal Hermite pulses. Using this new matrix model, a number of pulse-shape modulation schemes are analyzed and a novel orthogonal design is proposed. In the proposed orthogonal design, transmit waveforms are constructed as combinations of elementary Hermites with weighting coefficients derived by employing the Gram-Schmidt (QR) factorization of the differentiating distortion model’s matrix. The design ensures orthogonality of the vectors at the output of the receiver bank of correlators, without requiring compensation for the distortion introduced by the antennas. In addition, a new set of elementary Hermite Pulses is proposed which further enhances the performance of the new design while enabling a simplified hardware implementation.
A concise study on the Palio of Asti
Giuseppe Marengo 한국이탈리아어문학회 2009 이탈리아어문학 Vol.27 No.-
Among the numerous local traditional festivities in Italy I would like to present the Palio of Asti. In Italy, various horse races are celebrated but the most important is the Palio of Piedmont which is usually held in September. The Palio, with nine centu

Background/Aims Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) diagnosis is usually based on non-invasive breath tests (BTs), namely lactulose BT (LBT) and glucose BT (GBT). However, divergent opinions and problems of parameter standardization are still controversial aspects. We aim to perform a meta-analysis to analyze diagnostic performance of LBT/GBT for SIBO diagnosis. Methods We searched in main literature databases articles in which SIBO diagnosis was achieved by LBT/GBT in comparison to jejunal aspirate culture (reference gold standard). We calculated pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive, and negative likelihood ratios and diagnostic odd ratios. Summary receiver operating characteristic curves were drawn and pooled areas under the curve were calculated. Results We selected 14 studies. Pooled sensitivity of LBT and GBT was 42.0% and 54.5%, respectively. Pooled specificity of LBT and GBT was 70.6% and 83.2%, respectively. When delta over baseline cut-off > 20 H2 parts per million (ppm) was used, GBT sensitivity and specificity were 47.3% and 80.9%; when the cutoff was other than and lower than > 20 ppm, sensitivity and specificity were 61.7% and 86.0%. In patients with abdominal surgery history, pooled GBT sensitivity and specificity gave the impression of having a better performance (81.7% and 78.8%) compared to subjects without any SIBO predisposing condition (sensitivity = 40.6% and specificity = 84.0%). Conclusions GBT seems to work better than LBT. A cut-off of delta H2 expired other than and lower than > 20 ppm shows a slightly better result than > 20 ppm. BTs demonstrate the best effectiveness in patients with surgical reconstructions of gastrointestinal tract.

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia. Many viruses and some vaccines have been identified as triggering the autoimmune process, including parvovirus, human immunodeficiency virus, Epstein-Barr virus, rubella, and measles. However, ITP in association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination has not been reported so far. We describe the cases of two young girls affected by ITP presenting a quick reduction of platelet count after receiving Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
Alopecia areata after COVID-19 vaccination
Giuseppe Gallo, Luca Mastorino 대한백신학회 2022 Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research Vol.11 No.1
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines are authorized for use in numerous countries worldwide. Several cutaneous findings are reported after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) vaccination. Here, we report the case of a patient with a rapid onset of alopecia areata immediately after receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disease leading to non-scarring hair loss. Among the many cutaneous adverse effects reported after the anti-SARS-COV2 vaccination, no episodes of alopecia areata have been described to date. In this paper, we report the first case of alopecia areata after COVID-19 vaccination described in the literature with a revision of cases of alopecia areata reported after other types of vaccination. Although the significance of these skin reactions is not yet known, further studies will certainly clarify whether the development of alopecia areata or other forms of immune-mediated reactions could represent a positive prognostic factor regarding immune protection from SARS-CoV-2.
Stochastic optimum design of linear tuned mass dampers for seismic protection of high towers
Giuseppe Carlo Marano,Rita Greco,Giuseppe Palombella 국제구조공학회 2008 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.29 No.6
This work deals with the design optimization of tuned mass damper (TMD) devices used for mitigating vibrations in high-rise towers subjected to seismic accelerations. A stochastic approach is developed and the excitation is represented by a stationary filtered stochastic process. The effectiveness of the vibration control strategy is evaluated by expressing the objective function as the reduction factor of the structural response in terms of displacement and absolute acceleration. The mechanical characteristics of the tuned mass damper represent the design variables. Analyses of sensitivities are carried out by varying the input and structural parameters in order to assess the efficiency of the TMD strategy. Variations between two different criteria are also evaluated.
