Comparison of the thickness of the gastrocnemius through ultrasonography during heel-drop exercise performance

Objective: This study was aimed to compare the thickness and pennation angle of gastrocnemius through ultrasonography during the heel-drop exercise on ankle dorsiflexion angle. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Nineteen normal adults in their 20s had voluntarily participated in this study. All subjects performed the ankle heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o, 10^o, and 20^o: heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o was executed on floor-level, heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 10^o on a wooden-block of 2.3 cm in height, and heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 20^o on a wooden-block of 5.5 cm in height. In each regimen, the subjects completed a session of 100 heel-drop exercises (10 repetitions×10 sets; with 30 seconds rest following each set; with 24 hours rest following each exercise). Before and immediately after each heel-drop exercise, the thickness and pennation angle of gastrocnemius were measured using an ultrasonography. Results: After the performance of the heel drop exercises with ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o, 10^o, and 20^o, the thickness of the gastrocnemius was significantly higher than pre-exercise (p<0.05), and furthermore heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 10^o was significantly higher than exercise with the ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o (p<0.05). However, as for the pennation angle of the gastrocnemius, there were no significant changes after each heel-drop exercise. Conclusions: This finding suggest that the heel-drop exercise with ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o, 10^o, and 20^o is effective on the strengthening of the gastrocnemius. Furthermore, the heel-drop exercise with the ankle dorsiflexed to 10^o is more effective than with the ankle dorsiflexed to 0^o.

Ghosts, Bodies, and Memory in Mrs. Dalloway: Clarissa Dalloway`s Performance of Invisible Femininity

In Mrs. Dalloway, Woolf`s protagonist disrupts notions of the real and unreal, inverting time through the vehicle of memory. In her narrative, Clarissa breaks traditional structures of masculine time and linear narrative by remembering and invoking. She embodies performances of mother, daughter, sister, wife, and hostess. However, her multitude of performances do not cement an identity that “sticks,” but rather reinforce her incapability, or refusal, to fully occupy any one role that is expected of her. Clarissa`s female body, her memories, and “ghost” bodies trouble the concept of feminine identity. Woolf thus presents a character who performs a plurality of identities in queered time and spaces; within each identity category are gaps that allude to the possibility of nonidentity. These unresolved spaces manifest what supposedly should not, and cannot, exist in the forms of real and unreal bodies. Thus, Clarissa as all-identities and nonidentity opens up possibilities for the female body, sexuality, and feminine identity. Ultimately, she does not resolve her problematic position in a masculine economic sphere, which ensues in a self deconstruction (and reformulating) of identities. In effect, Clarissa Others her body, or bodies, emerging as a true flesh-and-blood ghost. Her performances suggest possibilities for a universal feminine figure, or a figure of feminine writing embodied.

Financial Liberalization and Corporate Employment: Evidence from an Emerging Market

This paper analyzes the real effect of financial liberalization using Korean firm-level data from 1990-2009. We adopt GMM dynamic panel model to empirically investigate corporate labor demand function. Our result suggests that financial liberalization benefited particularly manufacturing firms through the channel of foreign loan. Foreign share turn out to have negative impact on employment in manufacturing firms. Negative relationship between foreign share and employment can be explained by the efforts to improve efficiency. Firms with high foreign share can reduce employment to cut operating costs and achieve higher efficiency and productivity. The negative impact of foreign share ratio on employment is statistically significant only in manufacturing industry, because labor cannot be easily replaced by physical capital in service industry.

Decontamination of the chemical warfare agent simulant dimethyl methylphosphonate by means of large-area low-temperature atmospheric pressure plasma

Dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), a chemical simulant of the nerve gas GB, was decontaminated with a nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma. The decontamination efficiency was measured qualitatively by means of Fourier transform spectroscopy and quantitatively by means of gas chromatography. With helium gas only, 10 g/㎡ of DMMP on an aluminum surface was 99.9% decontaminated in 2 min, furthermore, with the addition of 5% of oxygen gas, it was 99.99% decontaminated in 10 min. Given the low input power (<100 W) and temperature (<75 ℃), this plasma is eligible for nondestructive decontamination of almost all material surfaces.

Investigation of Passing Ships in Inaccessible Areas Using Satellite-based Automatic Identification System (S-AIS) Data

Shipping of North Korea is not yet publicly well documented. Taedong River, the most important sea route of North Korea, is selected as a model study area to show how effectively a remote place can be investigated through the application of satellite-based Automatic Identification System (S-AIS) for understanding shipping and tracks of vessels which passed the lock gate in the Taedong River and visited the nearby ports on its track. S-AIS data of the year 2014 were analyzed on the basis of various time periods, country of registry and category of ships. A total of 325 vessels were observed. The ships under the flags of North Korea, Cambodia and Sierra Leone were found to be dominant in frequencies which accounted for 43.08%, 16.00%, and 8.92%, respectively. Trajectories of the 325 ships in the Yellow Sea were also checked according to the flags. It is concluded that some ships under the flags of Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Mongolia, Panama and Kiribati are regarded as flags of convenience, and ships without flag and ship type codes also comprised a remarkable portion out of the total ships.

영국의 노인에 대한 사회적 서비스 디자인 연구

선진국을 비롯한 세계 여러 나라에서 의학기술의 발전은 노인 인구의 생명 연장과 건강한 삶을 누리게 되는 개개인의 건강생활에 많은 영향을 끼쳐왔으나 65세 이상 고령 인구의 급격한 증가는 우리가 풀어야 할 가장 큰 이슈들 중의 하나가 되고 있다. 이러한 사안들은 어떻게 노인들이 보다 쉽게 제품과 교감할 수 있는지에 관한 문제를 풀기 위한 Inclusive 디자인과 서비스 디자인 등 다른 여러 디자인 컨셉들을 촉발시켰다. 하지만 아직도 많은 노인들은 아직도 이러한 기술의 혜택과 사회로부터 외로움과 소외감을 느끼고 있다. 이 연구에서는 영국의 고령인구를 중심으로 한 사례 연구를 통해 노인들의 외로움과 사회적 고립감에 대한 원인을 찾아보고, 사회참여적인 측면을 통한 궁극적인 해결책을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 노인인구 관련 통계자료와 STP 모델 적용을 통해 문제점을 발견하고, 사례 연구와 4P 모델 분석을 통해 노인인구가 갖는 문제점들에 대한 해결 방안을 모색하였다. 기존의 노인 관련 정책들이 해결할 수 없었던 노인들의 고독감과 사회로부터의 괴리감과 불평등 대우 등의 문제를 디자인 매니지먼트의 감성적 측면을 활용, 근본적 해결방법 제시로 노인들에게 사회구성원으로서의 역할을 재부여 하고자 했다. 근본적 해결을 위한 하나의 방법으로써 다양한 사회교육 시스템의 교사로서 사회참여의 기회를 부여하는 것을 제안했다. The improvement of medical technology has influenced to be better health status of individual which effect to longer and healthy life thus older people, over 65years old, population has grown radically also it has been a biggest issues to solve recently. This case has been issued to Inclusive Design and many other concepts to solve the problems with how older people are interacting product easily. However, many older people are still facing a problem of loneliness and socially excluding from society. This research will find the causes of the loneliness and social isolation of elderly; moreover, this will be focused on fundamental solutions through the participation in society. Finding problems was conducted with some statistics about elderly population and applying STP model then the methods for solution were found by case study and the using of 4P model. The problems which are related with old people have not been solved by the conventional policies, such as loneliness, social isolation and social inequalities, so this study suggests that re-giving the social role as a fundamental solution to older people by using the emotional aspect of design management. As a way of fundamental solution, this paper suggests that give the chance of social participation to elderly people as teachers of social education system.
