Clinical comparison of marginal fit of ceramic inlays between digital and conventional impressions

Franklin Guillermo Vargas-Corral,Américo Ernesto Vargas-Corral,Miguel Angel Rodríguez Valverde,Manuel Bravo,Juan Ignacio Rosales Leal 대한치과보철학회 2024 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.16 No.1

Purpose. To evaluate the metameric disparities among monolithic zirconia materials with differing yttrium compositions across various lighting conditions. Materials and Methods. Thirty-six square-shaped zirconia samples measuring 10 × 10 × 0.5 mm were prepared from monolithic zirconia materials with three different yttrium contents. A 0.2 mm thick layer of polymerized dual-polymerizable self-adhesive resin cement was created using a silicone mold with the same dimensions as the prepared zirconia specimens. To evaluate metamerism, color measurements were conducted using a spectrophotometer device on a neutral gray background in a color measurement cabinet that offers four different illumination environments. All samples underwent aging by subjecting them to 10000 thermal cycles using a thermal cycle tester. Following thermal aging, color measurements were taken once more, and the data were recorded using the CIE L*, a*, b* color system. Two-way ANOVA and Post-hoc Bonferroni tests were employed to analyze the data. Results. It was observed that there was no statistical difference among the color measurements made in different illumination environments of the monolithic zirconia ceramics used to evaluate metamerism (P > .05). This observation remained consistent both before and after thermal aging. After thermal aging, the color of monolithic zirconia materials exhibited a tendency towards red and yellow hues, accompanied by a decrease in brightness levels. Conclusion. It can be stated that different illumination conditions did not affect the metamerism of monolithic zirconia materials, but there was a color change in monolithic zirconia materials after a thermal aging period equivalent to one year.

      • THE BASIC INDUSTRY OF MONTERREY, MEXICO, AT THE CURRENT GLOBALIZATION PROCESS

Salvador Corrales C. Institute of Iberoamerican Studies Pusan Universit 2012 International Journal of Latin American Studies Vol.2 No.-

Abstract. International competition has reached a downturn in the regional economy indicators. This hard competitiveness has maintained the largest companies at the edge of bankruptcy; due to this regional economic scenario, large enterprises need to rebuild strategies in order to gain competitive advantages in the economic production process. Steel company owners have sold their companies because they cannot be competitive at the global level; cement and glass manufacturers have remained in the global market with important debts. They had been acquiring branches and firms with huge loans, when, unfortunately the global economic crises hit their financial capacities for competing worldwide. It is due to these reasons that Monterrey is experiencing a new industrial pattern.

The gut bacteria symbionts from the monophagous insect Acrobasis nuxvorellaproduce tannase for the digestion of Carya illinoinensis tannins

        Consuelo G. Corrales-Maldonado,Vargas-Arispuro Irasema,Luis Martínez-Carrillo José,Pérez-Morales Rosalva,Ángel Martínez-Téllez Miguel,Aispuro-Hernández Emmanuel,Arellano-Gil Maritza,Castro-Espinoza Lu 한국응용곤충학회 2022 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.25 No.4

Acrobasis nuxvorella Neuzing (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), or the Pecan Nut Casebearer (PNC), is a monophagous pecan nut [Carya illinoinensis (Wang) K. Koch] herbivore. This insect has caused major crop losses, despite pecan nut trees producing a high concentration of tannins, which are deterrent compounds for insects. The PNC consumes and processes tannin-rich tissues without any negative effects on its nutrition. Certain bacterial species of the herbivore gut microbiota have been proven to produce tannase, therefore, we hypothesize that the PNC has symbiotic bacteria that produce tannase for the digestion of tannin contained in their food. In this work, live PNC larvae were extracted from pecan nutlets. The larval guts were dissected and their contents were cultured to obtain the cultivable bacteria. A total of 224 bacterial isolates were recovered, 19 of which tested positive for tannase activity. Isolates LB66, LB24, TT29, and TP8 displayed comparable activity to the control strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Further enzyme semi-purification steps showed specific tannase ac tivity values in the range of 39.5–3.7 U/mg of protein. The isolates were identified as Bacillus pumilus strain TT29, Bacillus pumilus strain LB66, Bacillus pumilus strain LB24 and Sthaphylococcus warneri (TP8) by 16S ribo somal RNA gene sequencing. Our findings indicate that PNC larvae contain gut bacteria able to produce tannase that hydrolyze the galloyl ester bonds in tannins.

Ethnological Values and Opportunities for Establishing a Heritage Policy around Tuna-trapping in Andalusia (Spain)

David Florido-Corral 국립민속박물관 2013 International Journal of Intangible Heritage Vol.8 No.-

The subject of this study is tuna fishing with traps (also called pound nets and seines) traditionally carried out off the Atlantic oast of Andalusia in the Straits of Gibraltar. The study is divided into two main parts: the first sets out a concept of heritage that stresses its ethnological angle. A range of cultural aspects and facets of fishing that may be applied in classifying tuna-trapping as heritage is offered, with emphasis on the immaterial and intangible. The second part reconstructs the evaluation of tuna-trapping in two distinct ways: one relating to its memory and undeniable fascination for generations of writers and other artists who have focused their attention on fishing; the second offers strategies for classifying certain aspects of present-day tuna-trapping that could be validated as 'heritage', to illustrate real and possible, good and poor management practices.

Impact of Periampullary Diverticulum on ERCP Performance: A matched Case-Control Study

        Juan E. Corral,Omar Y. Mousa,Paul T. Kröner,Victoria Gomez,Frank J. Lukens 대한소화기내시경학회 2019 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.52 No.1

Background/Aims: Periampullary diverticulum (PAD) is frequently encountered during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) and has been associated with stone formation in the bile duct. The effects of PAD on the ERCP procedure have been oftendebated. We aimed to compare the therapeutic success of ERCP between patients with PAD and matched controls. Methods: We reviewed all ERCPs with findings of PAD in a national database (n=1,089) and compared them with age- and gendermatchedcontrols in a 1:3 fashion (n=3,267). Demographics, endoscopic findings, visualization of main structures, and therapeuticsuccess rates were compared between groups. Secondary analysis compared PAD cases and controls who had gallstone disease. Results: The average cohort age was 68.4±14.3 years and 55.1% were male. ERCP success was similar in both groups, and no significantinter-group differences were found in the multivariate analysis. The presence of PAD did not affect the rates of sphincterotomy orvisualization of main biliary structures. Secondary analysis showed similar success rates for gallstone removal between patients withPAD and controls. Conclusions: PAD may not be considered a hinderance to ERCP success. Further research is needed to determine the best approach tocannulate the ampulla and provide endoscopic therapy for different subtypes of PAD.

      • Mapping of SSR markers closely linked to a bean rust resistant gene in common bean following bulked segregant analysis with whole genome SNP genotyping

        Seonghyu Shin,Marcial Pastor-Corrales,Qijiang Song,Gaofeng Jia,Miok Woo,Perry Cregan 한국육종학회 2013 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2013 No.07

Recently whole genome SNP genotyping has been used to do association analysis and to map a gene of interest. Here we report application of bulked segregant analysis(BSA) using Infinium HD assay with ‘BARC Bean6K_3’, a SNP genotyping beadchip containing 5,399 SNPs for common bean to locate a target gene. We used BSA using Infinium HD assay was performed to find the candidate region of a single dominant rust resistant gene in PI310762, a common bean cultivar. And SSR markers were identified and mapped on the candidate region using F2 population derived from the cross of susceptible Pinto114 x resistant PI310762. BSA revealed the candidate region of the resistant gene is on chromosome 4 where we developed nine SSR markers. Three SSR markers (beanssr1170, beanssr1168, and beanssr1167) of them appeared closely linked to the resistant gene which is located between beanssr1167 at 0.1cM and beanssr1170 at 0.5cM on chromosome 4. This study showed BSA using high-throughput whole genome SNP genotyping is a very fast and efficient method to locate a gene of interest on chromosome.

Pig meat production in the European Union-27: current status, challenges, and future trends

        Mateos G. G.,Corrales N. L.,Talegón G.,Aguirre L. 아세아·태평양축산학회 2024 Animal Bioscience Vol.37 No.4

The main objective of this study was to present data on the current situation and future trends of pig meat production in the European Union-27 (EU). Pig production has played an important social and economic role for centuries in many states of the EU. In 2022, pig meat production in the EU reached 23 M tons, which represented 21% of total production worldwide. The two key reasons that justify such amount of pork produced, are the acceptance and high consumption of the meat by the local population and the high quality of the meat produced which facilitated pork export. However, current data show a reduction in pork production for the last three years, as a consequence of a series of events that include i) problems with the chain of ingredients supply, ii) uncontrolled increase in African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks, iii) fast recovery of pig production in China, iv) increasing concerns by the rural population on the high cost to meet future requirements of the EU legislation on farm management, environmental sustainability and animal welfare, v) increased cost of all inputs involved in pig production and vi) limited interest of the new farmer generation to work on the pig sector. Consequently, pork production is expected to decrease in the EU for the next years, although sales will be maintained at a relative high level because pork is the meat preferred by local consumers in most EU countries. In order to maintain the favourable position of the pork industry in the near future, strategies to implement include: i) maintain the quality of the meat destinated to export markets, ii) improve the control of outbreaks of ASF and other swine diseases, iii) implementation of technological innovations to improve working conditions making more attractive to work in the pork sector of the food chain to the new generation of farmers and workers.

      • Depth-of-Field Enhancement in Integral Imaging by Selective Depth-Deconvolution

        Navarro, Hector,Saavedra, Genaro,Martinez-Corral, Manuel,Sjostrom, Marten,Olsson, Roger IEEE 2014 Journal of display technology Vol.10 No.3

One of the major drawbacks of the integral imaging technique is its limited depth of field. Such limitation is imposed by the numerical aperture of the microlenses. In this paper, we propose a method to extend the depth of field of integral imaging systems in the reconstruction stage. The method is based on the combination of deconvolution tools and depth filtering of each elemental image using disparity map information. We demonstrate our proposal presenting digital reconstructions of a 3-D scene focused at different depths with extended depth of field.

      • Computational volumetric reconstruction of integral imaging with improved depth resolution considering continuously non-uniform shifting pixels

Cho, Byungwoo,Kopycki, Przemyslaw,Martinez-Corral, Manuel,Cho, Myungjin Elsevier 2018 Optics and lasers in engineering Vol.111 No.-

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new computational volumetric reconstruction technique of three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging for depth resolution enhancement by using non-uniform and integer-valued shifting pixels. In a typical integral imaging system, 3D images can be recorded and visualized using a lenslet array. In previous studies, many computational reconstruction techniques such as computational volumetric reconstruction and pixel of elemental images rearrangement technique (PERT) have been reported. However, a computational volumetric reconstruction technique has low visual quality and depth resolution because low-resolution elemental images and uniformly distributed shifting pixels are used for reconstruction. Although PERT can enhanced the visual quality of the 3D images, the size of the reconstructed 3D images is different from the original scene. On the other hand, our proposed method uses non-uniformly distributed shifting pixels for reconstruction instead of uniformly distributed shifting pixels. Therefore, the visual quality and depth resolution may be enhanced. Finally, our experimental results show the improvement of depth resolution and visual quality of the reconstructed 3D images.

Highlights

We present a new reconstruction of integral imaging with integer-valued and non-uniform shifting pixels as shown in Fig. 1.

However, a conventional computational volumetric reconstruction has high reconstruction error and low depth resolution.

Furthermore, if the resolution of the elemental images is low, these problems become even bigger.

We proposed a reconstruction technique to improve depth resolution by using continuously non-uniform shifting pixels.

Finally, our experimental results as shown in Fig. 2 show the improved depth resolution and reduced reconstruction errors.
