        Sterically hindered amine-functionalized MCM-41 composite for efficient carbon dioxide capture

        A new adsorbent based on sterically hindered amine for efficient CO2 capture was prepared. Mesoporoussilicon MCM-41 was modified by sterically hindered amine AMPD (2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol) in differentAMPD loadings by a facile solid-state self-assembly approach. The physicochemical properties of the MCM-41@AMPDcomposites were analyzed using XRD, BET, FT-IR and SEM, and the composites were investigated for the CO2 captureperformance, including CO2 capture capacity, adsorption selectivity and cycling stability. Characterization analysesshowed that the AMPD active components were successfully incorporated and well dispersed into the mesoporous siliconMCM-41 surfaces. Adsorption results suggest that the modification by the active ingredient AMPD can significantlyimprove the CO2 capture performance. The MCM-41@AMPD material with an AMPD loading of 7mmol∙g1MCM-41 support exhibits a good CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2 adsorption selectivity, and shows excellent cyclingstability. Furthermore, the isosteric heat of CO2 adsorption on the MCM-41@AMPD-7 material was evaluated by theClausius-Clapeyron equation, and the value was 34-78 kJ∙mol1.

        Success stories and issues in transition services for youths with intellectual disabilities in the United State of America

        지적장애학생들의 학교교육에서 취업으로의 성공적인 전환은 수년간 특수교육과 재활상담분야의 주 관심사가 되어왔다. 지적장애학생들은 학교를 졸업하고 취업을 하는 과정에서 현저히 저조한 결과를 내었고 그 주요원인으로는 현실성이 결여된 특수교육과 전환교육의 실천, 장애학생의 선호도를 고려하지 않은 목표설정, 비효과적인 훈련과정, 그리고 교사와 부모와 지역사회와의 협력체계의 부적절성들을 들 수 있다. 이러한 문제점들은 관심분야가 제한되어있고 자기주장능력이 부족한 지적장애학생들에게는 더욱 두드러진다. 이 논문에서는 미국에서의 전환교육 실천방법과 성공사례를 제시하고 지적장애 학생들이 성공적인 전환교육을 받을 수 있는 주요 요인들을 살펴보는 것이다. The successful outcomes of transition from school to employment has been the critical issues and concerns in Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling in the U.S. Youths with intellectual disabilities achieve limited outcomes as they leave school and try to access employment. Some of the essential factors associated with t ese limitations are impractical special education and transition services, goal setting without individual preference consideration, inefficient preparation of youths with disabilities, and insufficient collaboration among professionals, parents, business, and community leaders. These problems can be anticipated to be enormous in case of youths with intellectual disabilities who have limited interest and self-advocacy skills. In this paper, the practice of transition services and success stories in the U.S. will be introduced and the key elements how to assist youths with intellectual disabilities to achieve successful transition from school to employment will be discussed.

        Facile fabrication of copper oxide modified activated carbon composite for efficient CO2 adsorption

        Copper oxide modified activated carbon (CuO/AC) composites for the CO2 capture were synthesized via a facile assembly strategy associated with a direct solid-state heat dispersion process by introducing CuO into AC using Cu(NO3)2 as the copper source. The synthesized CuO/AC composites with various CuO contents were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurement, and the CO2 adsorption performance was investigated. The characterization results indicate that the Cu(NO3)2 species was well dispersed into the AC pore channels and then converted to a highly dispersed CuO after the activation process. The adsorption results reveal that the CO2 adsorption performance can be significantly improved by introducing CuO onto the AC surfaces, and the CuO(0.6)/AC composite with a CuO loading of 0.6mmol/g AC shows a high CO2 adsorption capacity and adsorption selectivity and displays an excellent reversibility. Additionally, the calculated adsorption heat values of CO2 on the CuO(0.6)/AC composite are in the range of 27.3 to 33.9 kJ/mol.

      • DETERMINANTS OF ADOPTION OF FEMALE FITNESS PRODUCTS: AN EVIDENCE FROM URBAN MILLENNIAL WOMEN

        Despite growing research interest in consumer health, well-being and beauty, little is known about factors influencing consumer purchase decisions for female fitness devices. This study focuses on Kegel exercises – exercise routines developed by Dr. Kegel to strengthen pelvic floor muscles – that are recommended by health professionals for patients experiencing health ailments such as urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and dissatisfaction. Despite the benefits, women are not well aware of the role of pelvic floor muscles. The diffusion and acceptance of Kegel exercise and devices among women are likely determined by how comfortable women are about obtaining such benefits. For this reason, feminism should play an important role in shaping women’s desire to engage in Kegel exercises. Thus, this research investigates how feminism is related to Millennial women’s engagement with fitness products, particularly Kegel devices. Drawing on the literatures about sexuality, health, and marketing, we propose that feminism positively influences women’s health-related attitudes (i.e., attitudes towards fitness, fitness opinion leadership, attitude toward core strength, and desire to control sex life), which in turn positively impacts women’s fitness engagement. Fitness engagement, in turn, is expected to predict attitudes towards Kegel exercise and Kegel device purchase intentions. On the other hand, women’s attitudes toward core strength and desire to control sex life are proposed to have a direct, positive impact on attitude towards Kegel exercise. Analysis of PLS-SEM shows general support for the hypotheses. We discuss how interest in Kegel devices could, in turn, lead to positive effects on overall physical and psychological health and provide implications for marketing practitioners.

        한국.중국 벼 도열병균 생리형 분석 및 품종 저항성 특성 비교

        One hundred isolates of Magnaporthe grisea from Korea and China were characterized for pathogenicity using eight Korean differential varieties(KDV), six Chinese differential varieties(CDV) and six near isogenic lines(NILs) developed in China. The restriction length polymorphism of M. grisea isolates from each country also was analyzed using MGR586 as a probe. One hundred Korean isolates classified into 17 races on KDV were grouped into 29 pathotypes on Chinese near isogenic lines(NILs). Virulence of 46% of Korean isolates against all the six Chinese NILs indicated that the current six Chinese NILs alone was not enough to be used as differential varieties in Korea. Especially, susceptibility of the BL1 carrying resistance gene Pi-b to 70% of tested Korean isolates suggested that BL1(Pi-b) may not be a useful resistance source to Korean blast. Based on the virulence assays of M. grisea populations from each country were divided into two groups. About 50% of Chinese isolates showed similarity to the 30% of the Korean isolates. Especially, the isolates from northern part of China, where Japonica rice cultivars were grown, showed high similarity to the Korean isolates, while isolates from southern part of China, where Indica rice were mainly grown, showed low similarity to Korean isolates. The genome RFLPs of Korean isolates were quite different from those of southern part of China using MGR586 as a probe. These data indicated that the physiological and genetical characteristics of M. grisea population might be determined by strong interaction with cultivated rice.

        Regulation of OsLPR1 gene on the formation of rice root iron plaque under low phosphorus

        In rice, low phosphorus results in the formation of reddish-brown iron plaque on the root surface, affecting the absorption of different elements by roots. In this paper, three different types of rice varieties were used as materials, and the transcriptomic and proteomic analysis, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), and OsLPR1 gene knockout techniques were employed to study the regulation of the OsLPR1 gene on the formation of iron plaque on root under low phosphorus. The transcriptomics and qRT-PCR analysis results showed that the transcription of five OsLPR1 homologous genes in roots of the three tested rice varieties was significantly induced by low-phosphorus treatment. Proteomic analysis results demonstrated that low-phosphorus treatment increased LPR1 protein content in rice roots compared with the control. Furthermore, the formation of iron plaque on rice root surface under low-phosphorus treatment was significantly inhibited by OsLPR1 gene knockout. These results further evidence that low phosphorus-induced OsLPR1 gene expression promotes the formation of iron plaque on rice root surface.

        Map-based cloning and functional analysis of the chromogen gene C in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

        The chromogen gene C is critical for anthocyanin regulation in rice, and apiculus color is an important agronomic trait in selective breeding and variety purification. Mapbased cloning and in-depth functional analysis of the C gene will be useful for understanding the molecular mechanism of anthocyanin biosynthesis and for rice breeding. Japonica landrace Lijiangxintuanheigu (LTH) has red apiculi and purple stigmas. Genetic analysis showed that red apiculus and purple stigma in LTH co-segregated indicating control by a single dominant gene, or by two completely linked genes. Using 1,851 recessive individuals from two F2 populations, the target gene OsC was delimited to a 70.8 kb interval on chromosome 6 that contains the rice homologue of the maize anthocyanin regulatory gene C1. When the entire OsC gene and its full-length cDNA cloned from LTH were transformed into japonica cultivar Kitaake with colorless apiculi and stigmas all positive transformants had red apiculi but non-colored stigmas, validating that OsC alone was responsible for the apiculus color and represented the functional C gene. OsC was constitutively expressed in all tissues examined, with strongest expression in leaf blades. These results set a foundation to clarify the regulatory mechanisms of OsC in the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway.
