      • Evaluation of Extra High Voltage (XHV) Power Module for Gen3 10 kV SiC MOSFETs in a Mobile Utility Support Equipment based Solid State Transformer (MUSE-SST)

        Anup Anurag,Sayan Acharya,Subhashish Bhattacharya 전력전자학회 2019 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2019 No.5

MV solid state transformers enabled by SiC semiconductor devices is a promising replacement to conventional low frequency transformers. However, when MV SiC devices are used in converter applications, they are exposed to a high peak stress (5 kV to 10 kV) and a very high dv / dt (10 kV/μs to 100 kV/μs). Operating these semiconductor devices at these high peak stresses require careful designing from the packaging point of view, as well as designing the auxiliary systems such as the gate drivers and busbars, to handle the peak stress conditions. Recently, an extra high voltage (XHV) power module has been developed by Wolfspeed to package the 10 kV SiC MOSFETs for continuous and reliable operation. This paper aims at testing these modules in continuous operation for qualifying their operation in a MV solid state transformer. Reliable operation of these modules require the development of reliable auxiliary parts including gate drivers, bus bars and inductors. Design and development of the auxiliary system is also carried out. Successful tests demonstrating operation at MV levels are also shown. These tests serve as a qualification method for using these devices in a MV solid state transformer. It is envisaged that successful operation of these devices would accelerate the growth and deployment of MV SiC devices for field operation.

Prevalence of antibiotic resistance in lactic acid bacteria isolated from traditional fermented Indian food products

        Anup Kumar Ojha,Nagendra Prasad Shah,Vijendra Mishra,Neela Emanuel,Neetu Kumra Taneja 한국식품과학회 2023 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.32 No.14

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in lactic acid bacteria (LAB) raises questions on qualified presumptive safety status and poses challenge of AMR transmission in food milieu. This study focuses on isolation, identification and characterization of AMR in LAB prevalent in traditional fermented Indian food products. The analysis of 16SrRNA based phylogenetic tree showed placements of isolates among four different genera Lactobacillus, Enterococcus, Weissella and Leuconostoc. In E-strip gradient test of susceptibility to 14 different antibiotics, over 50% of isolates showed resistance to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, kanamycin, linezolid, streptomycin, trimethoprim and vancomycin. A multivariate principal component analysis, an antibiogram and multiple antibiotic resistance index-values (> 0.2) indicated presence of multidrug-resistance among the isolates. This study reports prevalence of an alarmingly high rate of AMR LAB strains in traditional fermented foods and is important to regulators and public health authorities for developing strategies to control transmission in food systems.

( Anup Shrestha ),( Saroj Nepal ),( Mijin Kim ),( Jae Hoon Chang ),( Sang Hyun Kim ),( Gil Saeng Jeong ),( Chul Ho Jeong ),( Gyu Hwan Park ),( Sunghee Jung ),( Jaecheong Lim ),( Eunha Cho ),( Soyoung 영남대학교 약품개발연구소 2016 영남대학교 약품개발연구소 연구업적집 Vol.26 No.-

Adiponeectin predominantly secreted from adipose tissue has exhibited potent anti- proliferative properties in cancer cells via modulating cell cycle and apoptosis, FoxO3A. a Forkhead box 0 member of the transcription factor. plays a critical role in modulating expression of genes involved In cell de:uh andlor SUrviV31. In this study. we investigated the role of FoxO3A signaling in and-cancer activities of adiponectin. Herein. we have shown that treaunent with globular adlponectln (gAcrp) Increases p27 but decreases cyclinD I expression In human hepatoma (HepG2) and breasr (MCF-7) cancer cells. Gene ablation of Fox03A prevented gAcrp-induced increase In p27 and decreased in cyelin 0 I expression. and further ameliorated cell cycle arrest by gAcrp.lndicating 3 critical role of FoxO3A in gAcrp-induced cell cycle arrest of cancer cells. Moreover, treatment with gAcrp also induced caspase-Jf7 activation and increased Fas ligand (Fasl) expression ln both HepG2 and MCF-7 cells. Transfecucn with FoxO3A siRNA inhibited gAcrp-induced caspase-3/7 activadon and Fasl expression. suggening that FoxO3A sigltaling also plays an lmportant role In gAcrp.induced apcptosis of cancer cells, We also found that gene silencing of AMPK prevented gAcrp-induced nuclear translocation of Fox03A in HepG2 and MCF-7 cells. In addition. suppression of AMPK also blocked gAcrp-lnduced cell cyele arrest and further attenuated gAcrp-induced caspase-3/7 activation, indICating that AMPK signaling plays a pivotal role in both gAcrp-lnduced cell cycle arrest and apoprosis via acting as an upstream S1gnalirlg of Fox03A Taken together. our firldings demonstrated that AMPK/Fox03A axis plays a cardinal role in anu-protlferanve effect of adiponecun in cancer cells.

Application of Biocathodes in Microbial Fuel Cells

        Anup Gurung,Sang Eun Oh 한국토양비료학회 2012 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.45 No.3

The heavy reliance on fossil fuels, especially oil and gas has triggered the global energy crisis. Continued use of petroleum fuels is now widely recognized as unsustainable because of their depleting supplies and degradation to the environment. To become less dependent on fossil fuels, current world is shifting paradigm in energy by developing alternative energy sources mainly through the utilization of renewable energy sources. In particular, bioenergy recovery from wastes with the help of microorganism is viewed as one of the promising ways to mitigate the current global warming crisis as well as to supply global energy. It has been proved that microorganism can generate power by converting organic matter into electricity using microbial fuel cells (MFCs). MFC is a bioelectrochemical device that employs microbes to generate electricity from bio-convertible substrate such as wastewaters including municipal solid waste, industrial, agriculture wastes, and sewage. Sustainability, carbon neutral and generation of renewable energy are some of the major features of MFCs. However, the MFC technology is confronted with a number of issues and challenges such as low power production, high electrode material cost and so on. This paper reviews the recent developments in MFC technology with due consideration of electrode materials used in MFCs. In addition, application of biocathodes in MFCs has been discussed.

Efficient Transmission Mode Selection Scheme for MIMO-based WLANs

( Anup Thapa ),( Kyung Sup Kwak ),( Seokjoo Shin ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2014 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.8 No.7

While single-user spatial multiplexing multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) allows spatially multiplexed data streams to be transmitted to one node at a time, multi-user spatial multiplexing MIMO (MU-MIMO) enables the simultaneous transmission to multiple nodes. However, if the transmission time required to send packets to each node varies considerably, MU-MIMO may fail to utilize the available MIMO capacity to its full potential. The transmission time typically depends upon two factors: the link quality of the selected channel and the data length (packet size). To utilize the cumulative capacity of multiple channels in MIMO applications, the assignment of channels to each node should be controlled according to the measured channel quality or the transmission queue status of the node. A MAC protocol design that can switch between MU-MIMO and multiple SU-MIMO transmissions by considering the channel quality and queue status information prior to the actual data transmission (i.e., by exchanging control packets between transmitter and receiver pairs) could address such issues in a simple but in attractive way. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that is capable of performing such switching and thereby improve the system performance of very high throughput WLANs. The detailed performance analysis demonstrates that greater benefits can be obtained using the proposed scheme, as compared to conventional MU-MIMO transmission schemes.

      • Combined Binary Exponential and Linear Backoff (CBELB) Algorithm for Initial Ranging in WiBro

        Anup Thapa,Seokjoo Shin 대한전자공학회 2008 ICEIC:International Conference on Electronics, Inf Vol.1 No.1

In this paper a contention resolution backoff algo-rithm termed Combined Binary Exponential and Linear Backoff (CBELB) algorithm is proposed for initial ranging procedure in IEEE 802.16e based WiBro (Wireless Broadband). In CBELB al-gorithm, for first four initial collision, the colliding SS (Subscriber Station) increases its contention window (CW) size exponentially with the factor of 2, whereas in case of successive collision after fifth, the SS increases the contention window size linearly until the maximum number of retransmission is reached. Numerical results show that CBELB algorithm in the WiBro cell reduces the average access delay for the successful ranging request transmission in comparison with BEB when there is moderate traffic in the network.

        Municipal Solid Waste Management

        Anup Gurung,Sang-Eun Oh 한국토양비료학회 2012 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.45 No.3

Nepal is one of the least urbanized countries in the world where more than 80% of the total population live in rural areas. In recent years, the rate of urbanization became rampant which ultimately accelerated immense pressure on municipal services, especially on managing the ever increasing amount of wastes. Due to lack of technology, infrastructure and financial capacity management of increasing amount of solid waste has become a major challenge in municipalities of Nepal. The indiscriminate dumping of solid wastes already affected the urban environment by creating a serious occupational health and environmental hazard to the vicinity of the dumping sites. However, there is great possibility of recovering methane from the landfill sites since the typical Nepalese municipal solid waste contains more than 65% of organic wastes. Despite having enormous potential of generating electricity from hydropower, Nepal is facing acute shortage of energy. Therefore, comprehensive scientific research and development is necessary for making solid waste to environmentally friendly by converting waste to the energy.

A single‐phase algorithm for mining high utility itemsets using compressed tree structures

        Anup Bhat B,Harish SV,Geetha M 한국전자통신연구원 2021 ETRI Journal Vol.43 No.6

Mining high utility itemsets (HUIs) from transaction databases considers such factors as the unit profit and quantity of purchased items. Two‐phase tree‐based algorithms transform a database into compressed tree structures and generate candidate patterns through a recursive pattern‐growth procedure. This procedure requires a lot of memory and time to construct conditional pattern trees. To address this issue, this study employs two compressed tree structures, namely, Utility Count Tree and String Utility Tree, to enumerate valid patterns and thus promote fast utility computation. Furthermore, the study presents an algorithm called single‐phase utility computation (SPUC) that leverages these two tree structures to mine HUIs in a single phase by incorporating novel pruning strategies. Experiments conducted on both real and synthetic datasets demonstrate the superior performance of SPUC compared with IHUP, UP‐Growth, and UP‐Growth+ algorithms.
