        Ledebouriellae Radix is in use in eastern medicine. Eastern medical doctors use Ledebouriellae Radix for inducing diaphoresis to dispel wind(解表祛風), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Ledebouriellae Radix. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The ingredients of poisoning from Ledebouriellae Radix can cause hypersensitive reaction. 2. Whenever the poisoning and side effects from Ledebouriellae Radix may happen, the patients should stop the taking Ledebouriellae Radix instantly. 3. In order to prevent against poisoning of Ledebouriellae Radix, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.

        Acanthopanax had .recently been a lot of interest, therefore we investigated its chemical component and efficacy by research of literatures. To study a relation pharmacological action of chemical component and effects as we consider medical effect. First we searched books, research paper, internet site. Second, Keywords were searched Acanthopanax, Acanthopanax Cortex Radicis, effects of acanthopanax, extract of acanthopanax (HPLC,LC-MS), chiisanoside, Lignan (sesamin, helioxanthin, savinin, taiwanin C, e1eutheroside E, acanthoside D), Pimaric acid, stigmasterol, syringing, hyperin, caffeic acid. Third, in this key word arranqement a medical effect paper. 1) effects of acanthopanax 2) chemical component of acanthopanax. Results obtained in this study that active components of Acanthopanax are chiisanoside, Lignan (sesamin, helioxanthin, savinin, taiwanin C, eleutheroside E, acanthoside D), Pimaric acid, stigmasterol, syringing, hyperin, caffeic acid. These components suggest that acanthopanax may be used in the clinical field against several diseases, such as antacid, anti-inflammatory, antitumor effect, anti-depressant, antiallergic, nephropathy, suppress of melanin pigment. We know that there are effect of oriental medicine and effect of Acanthopanax chemical compound. So, It studied efficacy`s of each compounds. First, pharmacological action of Acanthopanax are antioxidant effect, anti-cancer, antiallergic, suppress of melanin pigment, nephropathy, anti-depressant. Second, the reported that Lignan in Acanthopanax a component parts of sesamin have osteoporosis treatment effect, helioxanthin and savinin have liver protection effect, taiwanin C have anti-inflarnatory effect, eleutheroside E have robustness effectiveness, acantboside D have lipotropic effect. Third, the repored that Acanthopanax at component of Pimaric acid have antibacteria effect and anti- inflamatory effect, stigmasterol have immunosuppression effect, Syringin have liver protection and protection effect of a brain nerves. Fourth, in effects of Korean medicine of Acanthopanax on ``xinglxue action (行血作用), ``xiehuo action (瀉火 作用)``, ``zaoshi action 燥濕作用)``, ``buzhongyijing (補中益精)``, ``qingshennailao (輕身耐老)``, ``qufengshiYao (去風濕藥)`` efficacys concerned with anti-inflamatory, immunosuppression, anti-cancer, liver protection, boost the blood pressure.

        감기환자의 구강에서 분리된 Streptoccous pneumoniae 59에 대한 관계부자이중탕(官桂附子理中湯)의 효과

        Objectives: I want to examine the antimicrobial activity of Gwankeibujalijung-tang against Streptococcus pneumoniae 59 isolated from the mouth of a common cold patient. Methods: Antimicrobial activity was assayed through the hot water extract from Gwankeibujalijung-tang against Streptococcus pneumoniae 59 isolated from the mouth of a common cold patient. Results: The size of inhibition zone of Gwankeibujalijung-tang extract was 9.83±0.11 ㎜. The optimal pH and temperature for the growth of isolated Streptococcus pneumoniae 59 were 7.0 and 37℃, respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Gwankeibujalijung-tang extract was 12 ㎕and the antimicrobial activity of Gwankeibujalijung-tang extract was not destroyed by the heat (121℃ for 15 min) and not affected by pH. Conclusions: Reviewing this experimental result, it appeared that Gwankeibujalijung-tang had efficacy against Streptococcus pneumoniae 59 isolated from the mouth of a common cold patient.

        Objects: This study was conducted to investigate the pharmacological effect and its chemical compound in Bupleurum falcatum L. Methods: First, we searched books, research paper, internet site. Second, we researched keyword: Bupleurum flacatum, effect, chemical, compound, extract, saikosaponin A, Bl, B2, B3, B4, C, D, el, H, I, a-spinasterol, stigmasterol, bupleurmol, eugenol, hexoic, v-lactone undecylate, p-methoxy phenyl diketone, olecic acid, linolenic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, polysaccharide, alkaloids, glucose, amino acid. Third, Keywords arrangement a pharmacological effects extract of Bupfeurum fi1fcatum, chemical compound of Bupleurum falcatum, fraction of Bupleurum falcatum. Results: First Pharmacological action of the crude extract of Bupleurum anti-foam ceil formation, hypothyroidism improvement, improvement of ischemic stroke symptoms, inhibited acute lung injury, anti-inflammatory bowel disease, damage to the sciatic nerve axon regeneration Crush improvement action is reactive. The second, Bupleurum falcatum extract fractions have VCAM-l/VLA-4 inhibitory effect, liver damage recovery effects. Third, Bupleurum falcatum pharmacological efficacy of the ingredients of the GABA-B receptor through reducing the reinforcing effects of morphine, liver damage, depression, suppression of urine protein excretion, increased serum cholesterol, inhibit the increase of serum corticosterone, hamam effects in osteoarthritis cartilage damage reduction, improvement of blood lipid peroxidation and liver damage has been reported suppression. Fourth, Bupleurum falcatum of beneficient an oriental sympotom are inhibit liver damage, ischemic stroke improvement, anti-inflammatory bowel disease is suppressed. Conc1usion: These chemical compounds and extract of Bupleurum falcatum L. may be used several disease. The effect of gangiwoolkeol and talhang can be explained, but others were insufficient data available on efficacy. Furthermore, resear.ch is need.

      • 종설(綜說) : 항비만에 대한 본초약물의 최근 연구 동향 분석

        Objects : This study was designed to suggest research direction for development of alternative herbal anti-obesity drug through analysis of trend in obesity studies with herbal medicine. Methods : We searched papers on ‘www.pubmed.com’ , and then filtered using keywords, obesity and (herbal, oriental medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Korean medicine, medicinal plant), in articles reported for recent 5 years between 2009 and Sep. 2013. Results : Total article found in the web site were 73 and they were analysed by system of study as in vivo(68%), in vitro(18%), in vivo and in vitro(14%). Used as a material in vivo system, by mouse(41%), rat(33%), human(22%), hamster(2%) and rabbit(2%). The used effective plants classified by medicinal plant(37%) and oriental herbal medicine(63). Entered channels and properties were dominant spleen & lung, sweet & warm in antiobesity-related oriental medicine respectively. In addition to these plants belonged in herbal to tonifying, clear hearts, releas the exterior, mainly. Conclusion : These result suggest availability of herbal medicine as a candidate materials of anti-obesity drug according to oriental therapeutic principles.

        대황과 실리마린의 병용투여의 간섬유화 보호 효과

        Objective: Liver fibrosis is a highly conserved wound-healing response and the final common pathway of chronic inflammatory injury. This study aimed to evaluate the potential anti-fibrotic effect of the combination of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma water extract (RW) and silymarin in a thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver fibrosis model. Methods: The liver fibrosis mouse model was established through the intraperitoneal injection of TAA (1 week 100 mg/kg, 2-3 weeks 200 mg/kg, 4-8 weeks 400 mg/kg) three times per week for eight weeks. Animal experiments were conducted in five groups; Normal, Control (TAA-induced liver fibrosis mice), Sily (silymarin 50 mg/kg), RSL (RW 50 mg/kg+silymarin 50 mg/kg), and RSH (RW 100 mg/kg+silymarin 50 mg/kg). Biochemical analyses were measured in serum, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), malondialdehyde (MDA), and ammonia levels. Liver inflammatory cytokines and fibrous biomarkers were measured by Western blot analysis, and liver histopathology was evaluated through tissue staining. Results: A significant decrease in the liver function markers AST and ALT and a reduction in ammonia and total bilirubin were observed in the group treated with RSL and RSH. Measurement of reactive oxygen species and MDA revealed a significant decrease in the RSL and RSH administration group compared to the TAA induction group. The expression of extracellular matrix-related proteins, such as transforming growth factor β1, α-smooth muscle actin, and collagen type I alpha 1, was likewise significantly decreased. All drug-administered groups had increased matrix metalloproteinase-9 but a decreasing tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1. RSL and RSH exerted a significant upregulation of NADPH oxidase 2, p22<sup>phox</sup>, and p47<sup>phox</sup>, which are oxidative stress-related factors. Furthermore, pro-inflammatory proteins such as cyclooxygenase 2 and interleukin-1β were markedly suppressed through the inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B activation. Conclusions: The administration of RW and silymarin suppressed the NADPH oxidase factor protein level and showed a tendency to reduce inflammation-related enzymes. These results suggest that the combined administration of RW and silymarin improves acute liver injury induced by TAA.

        『동의보감(東醫寶鑑)·탕액편(湯液編)』에서의 생숙론(生熟論) 활용에 관한 고찰

        Objectives : Systematize concept of 'Saengsukron(生熟論)', providing theoretical basis for clinical and research purpose. Methods : Herbal medicines listed in 'Tangaekpyeon of Dongeuibogam' were studied in the following order ; (i) Search for herbal medicines that has applied heat. (ii) Choose herbal medicine with reference of change before and after heating. And choose herbal medicine with reference on purpose of heating. (iii) Classify herbal medicines with similar patterns. (iv) Catagorize herbal medicine by its effects, side effects, nature of herbal medicines, tastes of herbal medicines, meridian tropism of the herbal medicines, and others(color of herbal medicines, formation of herbal medicines, storage of herbal medicines) (v) Systematize concept of 'Saengsukron'. Results : We were able to obtain systematized concept of 'Saengsukron(生熟論)'. They are classified by 'Saengsasukbo(生瀉熟補)', 'Saenghwalsukji(生活熟止)', 'Saengmusukyu(生無熟有)', 'Sukjeukhyojeung(熟則效增)', 'Sukjeukhyogam(熟則效減)', 'Sukjeukyudok(熟則有毒)', 'Saengdoksukgam(生毒熟減)', 'Saengjunsukwan(生峻熟緩)', 'Saengchangsukso(生脹熟消)', 'Sukjeukwiseong(熟則爲升)', 'Sukjeukwigang(熟則爲降)', 'Sukjeukwion(熟則爲溫)', 'Sukjeukwiryang(熟則爲凉)', 'Saengjosukgam(生燥熟減)', 'Sukjeukbyeonmi(熟則變味)', 'Sukjeukbyeonchwi(熟則變臭)', 'Sukjeukbui(熟則部異)', 'Sukjeukjongsa(熟則從邪)', 'Sukjeukbyeonsaek(熟則變色)', 'Sukjeukbyeonhyeng(熟則變形)' and 'Sukjeukbojang(熟則保長)'. Conclusions : In this study, heat processing of herbal medicines confirmed that certain regular changes occur. Based on this, concept of 'Saengsukron' could be systematized. Research on 'Saengsukron' will help practitioners and researchers.

        Thioacetamide로 유도된 간섬유화 모델에서 생간건비탕(生肝健脾湯)의 보호 효과

        Objective : In modern society, liver diseases such as liver fibrosis are on the rise as inflammation and wound healing processes of the liver are repeated due to factors such as drinking, smoking, and stress. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Saenggangeonbi-tang (SGGBT) on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver fibrosis. Methods : The mice were divided into 4 groups for examination (n=6): Normal group (Nor), distilled water-treated liver fibrosis mice (Con), silymarin 50 mg/kg-treated liver fibrosis mice (Sily), SGGBT 200 mg/kg-treated liver fibrosis mice (S200). Liver fibrosis was established in the mice via TAA for 8 weeks (1 week 100 mg/kg, 2,3 weeks 200 mg/kg, 4-8 weeks 400 mg/kg, three times a week, intraperitoneal injection) and they were administered silymarin and SGGBT (every day, oral administration) with the TAA. Results : SGGBT significantly decreased the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferanse, ammonia, and myeloperoxidase in serum increased by liver fibrosis. As a result of confirming H&E and MT staining, it was confirmed that SGGBT reduced damage and inflammatory cell infiltration in liver tissue, and alleviated changes in collagen fiber deposition and histological fibrosis. Also, it was confirmed through PAS staining that it reduced glycogen deposition in liver tissue. In addition, SGGBT significantly decreased the NADPH oxidases as well as significantly modulated the expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2. Conclusions : These results suggest that SGGBT regulates the expression of MMP/TIMP protein through inhibition of oxidative stress and alleviates liver fibrosis by reducing collagen and glycogen deposition in liver tissue.
