      • Virtual Go to School (VG2S): University Support Course System with Physical Time and Space Restrictions in a Distance Learning Environment

Fujita, Koji International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.12

Distance learning universities provide online course content. The main methods of providing class contents are on-demand and live-streaming. This means that students are not restricted by time or space. The advantage is that students can take the course anytime and anywhere. Therefore, unlike commuting students, there is no commuting time to the campus, and there is no natural process required to take classes. However, despite this convenient situation, the attendance rate and graduation rate of distance learning universities tend to be lower than that of commuting universities. Although the course environment is not the only factor, students cannot obtain a bachelor's degree unless they fulfill the graduation requirements. In both commuter and distance learning universities, taking classes is an important factor in earning credits. There are fewer time and space constraints for distance learning students than for commuting students. It is also easy for distance learning students to take classes at their own timing. There should be more ease of learning than for students who commute to school with restrictions. However, it is easier to take a course at a commuter university that conducts face-to-face classes. I thought that the reason for this was that commuting to school was a part of the process of taking classes for commuting students. Commuting to school was thought to increase the willingness and motivation to take classes. Therefore, I thought that the inconvenient constraints might encourage students to take the course. In this research, I focused on the act of commuting to school by students. These situations are also applied to the distance learning environment. The students have physical time constraints. To achieve this goal, I will implement a course restriction method that aims to promote the willingness and attitude of students. Therefore, in this paper, I have implemented a virtual school system called "virtual go to school (VG2S)" that reflects the actual route to school.

      • VLSI Implementation of Edge Detector and Vector Quantizer for Very Low Bitrate Video Encoding

        Miyanohana, Koji,Fujita, Gen,Onoye, Takao,Shirakawa, Isao 대한전자공학회 1996 APCCAS:Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits And Sys Vol.1 No.1

A VLSI video encoder core is implemented dedicatedly for a very low bitrate coding, with the main theme focused on an edge detector and a vector quantizer. A new mechanism is devised so as to seek horizontal and vertical edges simultaneously, which can achieve a high throughput for the edge detector. A new scheme is also introduced into the PE (Processing Element) array so as to be shared by the vector quantizer and the motion estimator. Owing to these sophisticated concepts, specific functional macrocells have been implemented for the edge detector and vector quantizer in the total area of 55.3㎟ by a 0.6㎛ triple-metal CMOS technology.

Firmicutes in Gut Microbiota Correlate with Blood Testosterone Levels in Elderly Men

        Matsushita Makoto,Fujita Kazutoshi,Motooka Daisuke,Hatano Koji,Hata Junya,Nishimoto Mitsuhisa,Banno Eri,Takezawa Kentaro,Fukuhara Shinichiro,Kiuchi Hiroshi,Pan Yue,Takao Toshifumi,Tsujimura Akira,Yach 대한남성과학회 2022 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.40 No.3

Purpose: In males, testosterone levels have been implicated in various diseases. Recently, the influence of gut microbialderived compounds on host metabolism has become evident, and it has been suggested that some gut bacteria may be involved in testosterone metabolism. In the present study, we examined the relationship between testosterone levels and gut microbiota in elderly Japanese men. Materials and Methods: We collected samples from Japanese male subjects suspected of having prostate cancer and underwent prostate biopsies and excluded patients with positive biopsies to avoid the effect of prostate cancer on the gut microbiota. In total, 54 Japanese males with negative biopsy results were included in our study. The gut microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing of bacterial DNA extracted from rectal swabs. Gut microbiota compositions were compared between the two groups according to the level of serum testosterone (above or below 3.5 ng /mL). Results: The median age of the cohort was 71 years, and the quartile range was 67 to 73 years. We observed no significant difference in alpha or beta diversity, but some bacteria belonging to the phylum Firmicutes (Clostridiales, Turicibacter, and Gemella) were increased in the high testosterone group. Serum testosterone levels positively correlated with the relative amount of Firmicutes (rS=0.3323, p=0.0141), and the amount of Firmicutes affected serum testosterone levels independent of host factors (age, body mass index, triglyceride, and total cholesterol; β=0.770, p=0.0396). Conclusions: Some intestinal bacteria belonging to the phylum Firmicutes were associated with testosterone levels in elderly males. Therefore, the gut microbiota could affect testosterone metabolism in elderly males.

Status of a Carbon-Ion Therapy Facility and Development for Advanced Treatment

        Atsushi Kitagawa,Takashi Fujita,Akifumi Fukumura,Takuji Furukawa,Taku Inaniwa,Yoshiyuki Iwata,Tatsuaki Kanai,Mitsutaka Kanazawa,Nobuyuki Kanematsu,Yuki Kase,Masataka Komori,Koji Noda,Yumiko Ohno,Shinj 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.6

Over 3000 cancer patients have already been treated with 140- to 400-MeV/n carbon beams produced by the heavy ion medical accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) since 1994. These clinical results have clearly verified the advantages of carbon ions. Based on our experience at HIMAC, a hospital-specific facility optimized for carbon-ion therapy has been designed. The prototype developments of an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source, a radio frequency quadruple (RFQ) linac, an inter digital H (IH) linac, an acceleration system of synchrotron, a beam-delivery system and other key-technology parts have been successfully finished. Thus, in co-operation with NIRS, Gunma University has been constructing a carbon-therapy facility since April, 2006. If the present clinical results are to be improved, it is necessary to create a more accurate dose distribution on tumors without an undesired dose being deposited in normal tissue. Beam-scanning methods with respiration-gated irradiation are especially important to treat a cancer tumor located in the trunk of a patient. Change of Gastric Emptying With Chewing Gum: Evaluation Using a Continuous Real-Time 13C Breath Test (BreathID System)

( Yasunari Sakamoto ),( Shingo Kato ),( Yusuke Sekino ),( Eiji Sakai ),( Takashi Uchiyama ),( Hiroshi Iida ),( Kunihiro Hosono ),( Hiroki Endo ),( Koji Fujita ),( Tomoko Koide ),( Hirokazu Takahashi ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2011 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.17 No.2

Background/Aims There are few reports on the correlation between chewing gum and the gastrointestinal functions. But previous report showed use of chewing gum to be an effective method for controlling gastrointestinal symptoms. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between chewing gum and gastric emptying using the continuous real time 13C breath test (BreathID system). Methods Ten healthy male volunteers participated in this randomized, 2-way crossover study. The subjects fasted overnight and were randomly assigned to chewing gum (Xylish, 2-3/1 tablet) for an hour following intake of a test meal (200 kcal/200 mL) or intake of the test meal alone. Gastric emptying was monitored for 4 hours after administration of the test meal by the 13C-acetic acid breath test performed continually using the BreathID system. Results No significant differences in the calculated parameters, namely, T1/2 (median, 111.82 vs 109.26 minutes; P = 0.575), Tlag (median, 53.28 vs 56.53 minutes; P = 0.333), gastric emptying coefficient (median, 3.58 vs 3.65; P = 0.285), regression-estimated constant β (median, 1.85 vs 1.80; P = 0.575) and regression-estimated constant κ (median, 0.61 vs 0.62; P = 0.959) were observed between the test meal alone group and the test meal and chewing gum group. Conclusions This study showed that chewing gum had no effect on the rate of gastric emptying. Therefore, since chewing gum did not enhance the speed of gastric emptying, it may ameliorate gastrointestinal symptoms through other mechanisms, such as saliva and autonomic nervous system.
