Background/Aims: Treatment-naive GT 1b-infected patients from mainland China, South Korea and Russia were assessed for SVR at follow-up week 12 (SVR12) after receiving daclatasvir (60 mg, QD) and asunaprevir (100 mg, BID) (DCV+ASV). Methods: Patients were randomized 3:1 to receive DCV+ASV (24 weeks; immediate treatment [IM]) or 12 weeks of placebo followed by DCV+ASV (24 weeks; placebo-deferred treatment [PD]). The primary endpoint was to evaluate SVR12 in the IM arm to the historical rate for peginterferon/ribavirin (70%). Secondary endpoints included overall safety and safety comparisons between the treatment arms during the first 12 weeks. Results: 207 patients were randomized to IM (n=155) or PD (n=52); Asian (86%), female (59%), IL28B CC genotype (68%) and median age 49 (range 18-73) years; cirrhosis (13%), HCV RNA ≥6x106 IU/mL (53%). SVR12 in the IM arm was 92% and broadly unaffected by most baseline factors assessed (Figure); SVR12 was higher in patients without (96%) baseline NS5A-L31M/V or Y93H polymorphisms. There were 6 virologic breakthroughs, 6 relapses and 1 detectable HCV RNA at end-of-treatment in the IM arm. Safety was mostly comparable between the two arms during the first 12 weeks. The most frequent adverse events (AEs; ≥5%) during DCV+ASV (24 weeks) treatment in both arms were aminotransferase, bilirubin and INR elevations, hypertension, fatigue and respiratory tract infections; the most frequent treatment-emergent grade 3/4 laboratory abnormalities were aminotransferase (≤4.5%) and hematologic, lipase and total bilirubin abnormalities (≤2%); one patient (IM) discontinued DCV+ASV for aminotransferase elevations, nausea and jaundice (all reversible); one patient PD) discontinued DCV+ASV for a fatal AE unrelated to treatment. Conclusions: These data demonstrate that DCV+ASV is a highly efficacious and well tolerated treatment for treatment-naive HCV GT 1b-infected patients. Those treated immediately with DCV+ASV achieved a 92% SVR12 rate which was unaffected by factors known to attenuate response to interferon.
A Fast Converging Pulse Coupling Oscillator Synchronicity Model
( Niu Yu ),( Brian J. D'auriol ),( Sungyoung Lee ),( Youngkoo Lee ) 한국정보처리학회 2007 한국정보처리학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.14 No.1
The Pulse Coupling Oscillator (PCO) is a synchronicity model inspired by nature. However, the PCO model has some limitations. The Fast PCO model is proposed in this paper. It addresses the problem of the phase swing actions in the original PCO model. Benefits are the fast synchronicity speed and associated energy saving.
A Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity bound for scrolls
Niu, W.,Park, J. Academic Press 2017 Journal of algebra Vol.488 No.-

Let X subset of P-r be a scroll of codimension e and degree d over a smooth projective curve of genus g. The purpose of this paper is to prove a linear Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity bound that reg(X) <= d - e +1+ g(e - 1). This bound works over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic. Droplet-Interfaced Microchip and Capillary Electrophoretic Separations
Niu, Xize,Pereira, Fiona,Edel, Joshua B.,de Mello, Andrew J. American Chemical Society 2013 ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY - Vol.85 No.18

Both capillary and chip-based electrophoresis are powerful separation methods widely used for the separation of complex analytical mixtures in the fields of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and cellular analysis. However their utility as basic tools in high-throughput analysis and multidimensional separations has been hampered by inefficient or biased sample injection methods. Herein, we address this problem through the development of a simple separation platform that incorporates droplet-based microfluidic module for the encapsulation of analytes prior to the analytical separation. This method allows for the precise and reproducible injection of pL to nL volume isolated plugs into an electrophoretic separation channel. The developed platform is free from inter sample contamination, allows for small sample size, high-throughput analysis, and can provide quantitative analytical information.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is the most economically important disease to the swine industry, and effective prevention strategy for this disease is still required. Guanylate-binding protein 1 (GBP1) and myxovirus resistance protein 1 (Mx1) are two important proteins belonging to the GTPase superfamily that have been previously described to show antiviral effects. CD163 is considered the most important receptor for PRRSV attachment and internalization. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of these genes on host resistance against PRRSV infection in conjunction with the host immune response following PRRSV challenge. The results showed that pigs with AG genotype for the GBPI exon2 exhibited a significantly higher average daily weight gain (ADWG) and lower average viremia than AA or GG genotype. Furthermore, pigs harbouring the AG genotype for the GBP1 gene presented greater CD4(+)CD25(+) and CD8(+)CD25(+) T cell populations at 4 and 18 days post challenge (dpc), respectively, as compared with other genotypes whereas pigs with CC genotype for the CD163 gene displayed significantly higher nucleocapsid-specific antibody titers at 11 dpc. However, pigs with a single 11-bp deletion or insertion in the Mx1 gene did not show significant differences in either weight gain or viremia. Based on these results, we concluded that GBPI is most significantly associated with resistance against PRRSV infection and efficient T cell activation in pigs. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Oviduct-specific Glycoprotein 1 Locus is Associated with Litter Size and Weight of Ovaries in Pigs
Niu, B.Y.,Xiong, Y.Z.,Li, F.E.,Jiang, S.W.,Deng, C.Y.,Ding, S.H.,Guo, W.H.,Lei, M.G.,Zheng, R.,Zuo, B.,Xu, D.Q.,Li, J.L. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.5
Oviduct-specific glycoprotein 1 (OVGP1) is implicated in playing a role in fertilization and early embryo development. In this study, we have obtained the sequence of intron 9 of OVGP1 gene in swine. Comparative sequencing of Meishan (a native Chinese breed) and Large White pig breeds revealed an A/T substitution at position 943. A PCR-EcoRI-RFLP assay was developed to detect this mutation. Polymorphism analysis in Qingping animals showed that pigs with BB genotype had lower number of piglets born alive (NBA) in multiple parities than pigs with AA (p<0.05) and AB genotype (p<0.01). In Large $White{\times}Meishan$ ($LW{\times}M$) $F_2$ offspring, the weight of both ovaries (OW) of the BB genotype was significantly lighter than that of AB (p = 0.05) and AA (p<0.01) genotypes. Analysis of the data also revealed that the mutation locus affected these two traits mostly by additive effects. These studies indicated that the polymorphism was associated with NBA and OW in two distinct populations and further investigations in more purebreds or crossbreds are needed to confirm these results.
An Analysis Method for Dynamical System
( Yu Niu ),( Brian J D'auriol ),( Youngkoo Lee ),( Sungyoung Lee ) 한국정보처리학회 2009 한국정보처리학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.16 No.2
This paper provides a method to analyze the dynamical system. It considers the fact of realistic delay in dynamical system analysis for the first time. The method uses timeline and state space to emulate the inhibitive coupling nodes evolving procedure in transmission delayed environment. The resultant finite state machine shows the system predictability and hardware implementation feasibility.
ALMOST SURE CONVERGENCE FOR WEIGHTED SUMS OF NA RANDOM VARIABLES
BAEK J. I.,NIU S. L.,LIM P. K.,AHN Y. Y.,CHUNG S. M. The Korean Statistical Society 2005 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.34 No.4
Let {$X_n,\;n{\ge}1$} be a sequence of negatively associated random variables which are dominated randomly by another random variable. We discuss the limit properties of weighted sums ${\Sigma}^n_{i=1}a_{ni}X_i$ under some appropriate conditions, where {$a_{ni},\;1{\le}\;i\;{\le}\;n,\;n\;{\ge}\;1$} is an array of constants. As corollary, the results of Bai and Cheng (2000) and Sung (2001) are extended from the i.i.d. case to not necessarily identically distributed negatively associated setting. The corresponding results of Chow and Lai (1973) also are extended.
