Authors performed the immunohistochemical study with avidin biotin-peroxi- dase complex staining on the nail unit of the human fetus for determining the presence of keratin and prekeratin. Seven fetuses, ranging from 12 to 27 weeks in age, were examined. In all cases, the keratin and prekeratin were found in the epidermis of nail units, but not found in stratum corneum and nail plate. Keratin was located predominantly in suprabasal cells whereas prekeratin was located diffusely in the epidermis. Interestingly keratin and prekeratin were found as early as 12 week-old gestational period. There was no significant difference in presence of keratin and prekeratin.

Subepidermal calcified nodules, consisting of solitary circumscribed deposits of insoluble calcium within the subepidermis, have generally been assumed to be idiopathic. As the disease is not associated with any systemic or cutaneous diseases, or any biochemical abnormalities, the pathogenesis is still unexplained, and it is thought to be a definite entity with only a characteristic histopathology. We report a 36-year-old female who has had subepidermal calcified nodules on both upper eyelids symmetrically for about 20 years. It is interesting that the lesions have xanthelasma-like appearance and are associated with syringomas. Excisional biopsy showed typical histopathologic and histochemical features of the sub epidermal calcified nodules.

N/A There have been a few repots of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) presenting hypocellular bone marrow. Most physicians are reluctant to give these patients intensive chemotherapy because of the potential risk of serious bone marrow failure. We experienced 10 patients with hypocellular AML (HAML) that could be difined by the criteria of 30% or more atypical blasts and 50% or less cellularity in the bone marrow. There were six men and four women and their ages ranged from 20 to 67 years. Various regimens including low dose ara-C alone (4 cases) and low dose ara-C with modified TAD (1case), with mitoxanthrone (1 case) or with mithramycin (1 case) were applied. Of the remaming three patlents; one received supportive care only, another mithramycin alone and the third allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. As a result, the three cases who received either allogeneic bone marrow transplantation or low dose ara-C with modified TAD or that with mitoxanthrone entered into complete remission. However, only the patient who received allogeneic bone marrow transplantation is still alive. The duration of survival ranged from 2 months to 18 months; the median was 8 months. One of the most common complications during chemotherapy was severe bone marrow suppression and the major cause of death was various severe infections during the pancytopenic period. Though the most favorable therapy for HAML is still controversial, bone marrow transplantation is considered to be the choice of treatment at the present time for young patients with HLA-identical donors. If bone marrow transplantation is not available, a more aggressive form of therapy in addition to low dose ara-C will be preferable.

다양한 종류의 컨텐츠 데이터베이스를 구축하고, 이를 인터넷 서비스로 제공하는 인터넷 포탈 서비스 응용이나 전자상거래 등에서 기존에 구축되어 있는 여러 형태의 컨텐츠 데이터베이스들을 통합하여 새로운 컨텐츠 서비스를 제공하기 위한 많은 노력들이 수행되고 있다. 이는 사용자가 활용하려는 컨텐츠가 어떤 데이터베이스 또는 어느 인터넷 서비스 응용에서 제공되는지를 파악해야 하는 사용자의 부담을 줄이고, 다수의 컨텐츠 데이터베이스들을 사용자에게 단일한 뷰(view)를 제공하므로서 사용자 이용 편의성을 높일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 컨텐츠 데이터베이스들이 인터넷에 분산되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 서로 상이한 데이터베이스 시스템들(즉, 관계형 DB/객체형 DB)에서 관리되는 환경에서 XML 자료 모델을 기반으로 통합된 하나의 가상 데이터베이스를 구축하고 검색하는 통합 검색 시스템의 핵심 요소인 질의 시스템을 설계 및 구현한다. There have been many considerations to develop new content services that integrate a variety of contents databases being already constructed and then produce new content services which are more valuable than existing services in many applications such as Internet portal, EC, and CRM. By doing the above thing, the burden of searching databases to access interesting databases and service applications can be reduced and the database availability of users is also enhanced through a single view integrating multiple contents databases. This paper presents implementation details of the query processing system that is a core component of the database integration system, which can construct a virtual database that integrates databases being managed by multiple heterogeneous database systems using XML data model and support a query facility on the integrated database.
