Vol.24 No.1

Short-selling brings risks as well as benefits to securities market. Among such risks, settlement risk is one of the most important reasons to regulate short-selling. While agreeing that short-selling contributes to more efficient market functioning, regulators have not yet found an effective regulatory tool to secure stability of clearing and settlement. The need for regulating short-selling was clearly demonstrated in the recent financial turmoil where many countries rushed to impose a temporary ban on naked short-selling in 2008. More recently, advanced markets such as U.S. are focusing on maximizing the efficiency of short-selling while reducing settlement risk by reforming regulation, including tighter disclosure of individual position. Reflecting strong concern for short-selling, Korea's regulation prohibits "naked" and exceptionally permits "covered" short-selling. Accordingly, some market participants strongly call for easing of the regulation to vitalize short-selling. Through out the history of American regulation, similar emphasis has been given to both tightening and easing of short-selling regulation, only with different timing. It is notable that IOSCO recommends, on the presence of effective compliance, "flexible regulation", which contributes to more efficient securities market. This article presents regulatory suggestions, which may enable more effective supervision and enforcement with regard to short-selling within the existing regulatory framework of Korea. First, short-selling regulations, currently existing in different laws and regulations, must be integrated. Second, as the current regulation classifies transactions into three types (naked, covered, non short-selling), it must be indicated by the law that "net position" is a determinant factor for defining short-selling. Third, in line with the current regulation which allows covered short-selling, the concept of "ownership" and "borrowing" must be clearly defined and applied. Fourth, flexible approach must be applied toward pricing regulation since short-selling regulation is only effective in bearish market. Fifth, abusive naked short-selling must be treated as "unfair trading" and equal level of disciplinary measures must be applied.

Vol.2 No.2

This paper investigates the affection of word position and syllable structure in the production of Japanese long and short vowels by Korean L2 learners. Subjects performed pronunciation tasks and the experimental sounds recorded were analyzed acoustically. The results showed the following facts : (1) Regardless of word position, it was discovered that the duration of Japanese short vowels by Korean learners was longer than those of Japanese. This result suggests that errors in the production of vowels by Korean learners may be caused by lengthening the duration of short vowels rather than the shortening of long vowels. The duration interval between the long vowel and short vowel in the word final position was shorter than in the initial word position. The review of the relationship between syllable structure and vowel length showed that the duration of short vowels in initial word position were longer before light syllables than before heavy syllables. In word final position and in long vowels, no significant differences with respect to the syllable structure were observed.

A Short-Term Prediction Method of the IGS RTS Clock Correction by using LSTM Network

2019 Journal of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Vol.8 No.4

Precise point positioning (PPP) requires precise orbit and clock products. International GNSS service (IGS) real-time service (RTS) data can be used in real-time for PPP, but it may not be possible to receive these corrections for a short time due to internet or hardware failure. In addition, the time required for IGS to combine RTS data from each analysis center results in a delay of about 30 seconds for the RTS data. Short-term orbit prediction can be possible because it includes the rate of correction, but the clock correction only provides bias. Thus, a short-term prediction model is needed to preidict RTS clock corrections. In this paper, we used a long short-term memory (LSTM) network to predict RTS clock correction for three minutes. The prediction accuracy of the LSTM was compared with that of the polynomial model. After applying the predicted clock corrections to the broadcast ephemeris, we performed PPP and analyzed the positioning accuracy. The LSTM network predicted the clock correction within 2 cm error, and the PPP accuracy is almost the same as received RTS data.

Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis with Position Embedding Interactive Attention Network

        Yan Xiang,Jiqun Zhang,Zhoubin Zhang,Zhengtao Yu,Yantuan Xian 한국정보처리학회 2022 Journal of information processing systems Vol.18 No.5

Aspect-based sentiment analysis is to discover the sentiment polarity towards an aspect from user-generatednatural language. So far, most of the methods only use the implicit position information of the aspect in thecontext, instead of directly utilizing the position relationship between the aspect and the sentiment terms. Infact, neighboring words of the aspect terms should be given more attention than other words in the context. This paper studies the influence of different position embedding methods on the sentimental polarities of givenaspects, and proposes a position embedding interactive attention network based on a long short-term memorynetwork. Firstly, it uses the position information of the context simultaneously in the input layer and theattention layer. Secondly, it mines the importance of different context words for the aspect with the interactiveattention mechanism. Finally, it generates a valid representation of the aspect and the context for sentimentclassification. The model which has been posed was evaluated on the datasets of the Semantic Evaluation 2014. Compared with other baseline models, the accuracy of our model increases by about 2% on the restaurantdataset and 1% on the laptop dataset.

Vol.22 No.3

The current vibration reduction methods for positioning systems lead to either complicated motion or the need for additional hardware when the positioning systems carry out frequent short-distance movements. This paper proposes a simple yet efficient vibration reduction method for positioning systems subjected to frequent short-distance movements. The essence of the proposed method is the trapezoidal or triangular velocity profiles, whose acceleration/deceleration rates are designed to be related to the natural frequency of concern. The combined use of the proposed method and the input shaping method is also proposed for the possible application to multimode systems. Experiments are performed to validate the proposed method. The simulation and experiments prove that the proposed method is of great use for residual vibration reduction in positioning systems subjected to frequent short-distance movement.

      • Predicting End-Effector Positions in Robotic Manipulators using Long Short-Term Memory Algorithm

Vol.2023 No.11

This paper presents a method for predicting end-effector positions in robotic manipulators by using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The Denavit-Hartenberg method was utilized for kinematics, generating 15,000 joint and position data points. Of these, 12,000 were used for training and 3,000 for testing. The performance of LSTM was compared to Support Vector Regression (SVR), Random Forest (RF), and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR). Results demonstrate LSTM’s success in regression tasks, indicating its potential as an alternative to traditional kinematics.

      • An alternative portable dynamic positioning system on a barge in short-crested waves using the fuzzy control

        Fang, Ming-Chung,Lee, Zi-Yi Techno-Press 2015 Ocean systems engineering Vol.5 No.3

The paper described the nonlinear dynamic motion behavior of a barge equipped with the portable outboard Dynamic Positioning(DP) control system in short-crested waves. The DP system based on the fuzzy theory is applied to control the thrusters to optimally adjust the ship position and heading in waves. In addition to the short-crested waves, the current, wind and nonlinear drifting force are also included in the calculations. The time domain simulations for the six degrees of freedom motions of the barge with the DP system are solved by the $4^{th}$ order Runge-Kutta method. The results show that the position and heading deviations are limited within acceptable ranges based on the present control method. When the dynamic positioning missions are needed, the technique of the alternative portable DP system developed here can serve as a practical tool to assist those ships without equipping with the DP facility.

Effect of Substituted Trifluoromethyl Groups on Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Fluorine-containing Epoxy Resin

Heo, Gun-Young,Park, Soo-Jin The Polymer Society of Korea 2009 Macromolecular Research Vol.17 No.11

In this study, 2-diglycidylether of benzotrifluoride (2-DGEBTF) and 4-diglycidylether of benzotrifluoride (4-DGEBTF) epoxy resins, which contained fluorine groups in the main chain, were synthesized. The resins were characterized by FTIR, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR and $^{19}F$ NMR spectroscopy. The 2-DGEBTF and 4-DGEBTF epoxy resins were cured with triethylene tetramine (TETA), and the effect of the fluorine group on the synthesized epoxy resin on the cure behavior, thermal, and mechanical properties was investigated. The 2-DGEBTF/TETA system was more reactive than the 4-DGEBTF/TETA system, whereas the thermal stability factor i.e., the decomposition activation energy ($E_d$), of 4-DGEBTF/TETA was higher than that of 2-DGEBTF/TETA. These results can be explained by the decrease in cross-linking density and decomposition of the short side chains, resulting in the $CF_3$ group at the para position. However, the $K_{IC}$ value of 4-DGEBTF/TETA was higher than that of 2-DGEBTF/TETA. This was attributed to the increase in flexibility in the epoxy backbone, resulting in a difference in steric hindrance and polarlizability.
