        Korean Speakers’ Sensitivity to Temporal-aspectual Prototypes in English

        The early production of temporal-aspectual features in English-speaking children is typically biased; they prefer telic perfective past combinations and atelic imperfective present combinations. Wagner (2009) replicated this finding with adult native English speakers. The current study explored the question of whether such a preference for these prototypes would persist into second language acquisition with Korean speakers. Given that the tense-aspect system is part of semantic universals shared by all languages, it was predicted that Korean speakers would show an influence of such prototypes. Korean speakers indeed judged prototypical temporal-aspectual combinations to be better than non-prototypical ones. Along the lines of Wagner (2009), we argue that the driving force for the preference for prototypes is information processing demands: The prototypes are favored because they are easier to compute and process.

        Prototype-based Classifier with Feature Selection and Its Design with Particle Swarm Optimization

        In this study, we introduce a prototype-based classifier with feature selection that dwells upon the usage of a biologically inspired optimization technique of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The design comprises two main phases. In the first phase, PSO selects P % of patterns to be treated as prototypes of c classes. During the second phase, the PSO is instrumental in the formation of a core set of features that constitute a collection of the most meaningful and highly discriminative coordinates of the original feature space. The proposed scheme of feature selection is developed in the wrapper mode with the performance evaluated with the aid of the nearest prototype classifier. The study offers a complete algorithmic framework and demonstrates the effectiveness (quality of solution) and efficiency (computing cost) of the approach when applied to a collection of selected data sets. We also include a comparative study which involves the usage of genetic algorithms (GAs). Numerical experiments show that a suitable selection of prototypes and a substantial reduction of the feature space could be accomplished and the classifier formed in this manner becomes characterized by low classification error. In addition, the advantage of the PSO is quantified in detail by running a number of experiments using Machine Learning datasets.

        연구논문(硏究論文) : 이탈리아 법원과 헌법재판소 사이의헌법적합적 법률해석에서의 협력관계

        이탈리아 헌법재판소가 1956년에 설립된 이후 약 40여 년(1956~1990)을 거치면서, 이탈리아의 법원과 헌법재판소는 ‘헌법적합적 법률해석’의 문제에서 기능적인 협력관계를 형성하였다. 역사적으로 크게 세 단계를 거쳐 이루어 낸 이 협력모델을 요약한다면 다음과 같다: 헌법재판소는 ‘해석적 기각판결’(한정합헌)을 될 수 있는 대로 자제한다. 법원에서 견고하게 형성되어 있는 판례법은 이른바 ‘살아있는 판례법’(diritto vivente)으로서 그 법원(法源)성을 인정한다. 1996년부터는 각급 법원의 판사들에게 헌법적합적 해석을 하여야 할 절차적 의무를 인정하고 이것을 유도하기 위하여 ‘부적법 각하판결’(해석적 각하판결)을 적극적으로 활용하고 있다. 만약 살아있는 판례법이 위헌이라고 확인되면 헌법재판소는 위헌판결로 이를 제거한다. 이와 같은 협력모델은 국민의 권리를 보장하기 위한 현대적 권력분립원리와 민주적 법치국가 원리와도 조화로운 헌법적 정의 모델이기도 하다. 우리 법원과 헌법재판소 사이에 헌법적합적 법률해석을 놓고 미묘한 갈등문제가 없지 않으나, 「헌법재판소법」을 개정하여 독일처럼 한정위헌결정의 법적 구속력과 재판소원제도를 입법적으로 도입하려고 하는 것은 다소 성급한 면이 있다. 두 헌법기관이 입법권 및 행정권과 견제와 균형을 이루어 내어, 국민의 권리보장적 기관으로서 그 위엄을 갖출 수 있도록, 이탈리아의 안정적이면서도 효율적이고, 상호구조(相互救助)적인, 사법기능적 협력관계모델을 적극적으로 연구ㆍ검토해야 할 필요가 있다. Since the advent of the Constitutional Court of Italy in 1956, the Italian Courts and the Constitutional Court have come to a functional cooperative relationship in terms of interpretation in conformity with the Constitution after passing through 40 years (1956~1990) of history. Prototypes achieved through three stages of history can be summarized as follows: the Constitutional Court rarely adopts “interpretative decision of dismissal”(the decision of limited constitutionality); uniform and consolidated case law of the Italian Courts, which we call “living law”, shall be recognized as source of law; the duty of conforming interpretation, a procedural duty, incumbent upon every judge of the Courts since 1996 has led him/her to actively issue an “interpretative decision of dismissal”; and for any existence of an unconstitutional living law, the Constitutional Court strikes one down by declaration of unconstitutionality. The prototypes well coincide with one constitutional justice model that is consistent with democratic constitutional state and modern separation of powers ensuring people``s rights. With Italy``s stable and effective judicial functional cooperation model comes the great need to research it intensively. Apart from amending provisions of the Constitutional Court Act in order to make “the decision of limited unconstitutionality” legally binding or to adopt “the constitutional complaints against judicial decisions” our top priority is to establish our own cooperative relationship between the Korean Courts and the Constitutional Court of Korea in which the two mutually assist in interpretation in conformity with the Constitution thereby enhancing their institutional stature to guarantee people``s rights.

        Design of Prototype-Based Emotion Recognizer Using Physiological Signals

        This study is related to the acquisition of physiological signals of human emotions and the recognition of human emotions using such physiological signals. To acquire physiological signals, seven emotions are evoked through stimuli. Regarding the induced emotions, the results of skin temperature, photoplethysmography, electrodermal activity, and an electrocardiogram are recorded and analyzed as physiological signals. The suitability and effectiveness of the stimuli are evaluated by the subjects themselves. To address the problem of the emotions not being recognized, we introduce a methodology for a recognizer using prototype-based learning and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The design involves two main phases: i) PSO selects the P% of the patterns to be treated as prototypes of the seven emotions; ii) PSO is instrumental in the formation of the core set of features. The experiments show that a suitable selection of prototypes and a substantial reduction of the feature space can be accomplished, and the recognizer formed in this manner is characterized by high recognition accuracy for the seven emotions using physiological signals.

        The Architectural Image of the World in Plato’s Timaeus

        In Plato’s Timaeus the world is described as the “perceptible image” of the “intelligible” (92c6-7), the image it seems of the intelligible “paradigm” used by the Demiurge (28ab, 29ab, 37c6-d1, 39e1) in making the world. But in what way, precisely, is the world an “image” of the intelligible paradigm? In this paper I would like to approach this question by exploring another image, one used by Plato in describing the making of the world, the image of architectural production. I will describe briefly the main steps in architectural production in Classical Greece, using literary sources (including Plato) and inscriptions from Athens and Delos: the use of paradigms (projects) by architects, the delegation and supervision of work, detailed planning in the building process, the use of prototypes. I will then note how these procedures are found in the story of the making of the world by the Demiurge and will infer the consequences as to what this might tell us about the way in which the world is an image of its intelligible paradigm.

        기능성 시제품 생산용 쾌속조형공정의 성능비교시험

        FDM, SLS, and EOS processes are the layered manufacturing processes for functional prototypes. In this paper, bench mark tests of those processes were carried out using various materials. The test includes mechanical properties, such as tensile and compressive strengths, hardness, impact strength, and heat resistance, and surface roughness, shape and dimensional accuracy, manufacturing time, and manufacturing costs. It is verified that SLS method is advantageous in surface roughness and manufacturing time, EOS method in shape accuracy, and FDM method is great in manufacturing costs.

        BIW 전착도장에서의 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 적용사례

        The e-coating to inhibit induced corrosion can deposit a coating not only on the exterior surface but also on the inside of whole metallic components of body-in-white (BIW). But it is difficult to deposit paint films on the inside area because metallic components are multi layered. It may cause shortness of e-coating thickness. The only way to properly verify e-coating thickness is by performing the use of tear-down prototypes. When paint films’ thickness is inadequate, a structural modification on each metallic component is needed. Verification of the thickness improvement for a structural modification requires much manual effort and leads to increasing development time. Recently, the simulation technology has been developed to predict the e-coating thickness in e-coating field. By applying the simulation to BIW, improvement in paint thickness quality and shortening of development period are expected. The paper explains a validated solution that allows simulating the effect of design changes to the e-coating thickness and current density, thereby delivering results within a time frame of a few days.

        Contextual information 을 이용한 P파 검출에 관한 연구

        The automated ECG diagnostic systems that are odd in hospitals have low performance of P-wave detection when faced with some diseases such as conduction block. So, the purpose of this study was the improvement of detection performance in conduction block which is low in P-wave detection. The first procedure was removal of baseline drift by subtracting the median filtered signal of 0.4 second length from the original signal. Then the algorithm detected R peak and T end point and cancelled the QRS-T complex to get'p prototypes'. Next step was magnification of P prototypes with dispersion and detection of'p candidates'in the magnified signal, and then extraction of contextual information concerned with P-waves. For the last procedure, the CIR was applied to P candidates to confirm P-waves. The rule base consisted of three rules that discriminate and confirm P-waves. This algorithm was evaluated using 500 patient's raw data P-wave detection perFormance was in- creased 6.8% compared with the QRS-T complex cancellation method without application of the rule base.
