‘생각하는 손’을 위한 자가제작 공예품 디자인 연구

        조준연 사단법인 한국조형디자인협회 2023 조형디자인연구 Vol.26 No.4

The act of perceiving and making objects by hand is a key factor in human evolution essential to full existence. In an attempt to restore the self handicraft culture for the general public, this study redefines the role of the hand and formulate appropriate design strategy from an integrated hand-sensory-brain perspective in handicraft. A case study of a craft handbag was conducted in parallel to verify its effectiveness. In this study, ‘Thinking hand’ was defined according to the theoretical investigation stating the hand as the core subject of making which simultaneously work with motor and sensory nerves as well as the brain. Three essential criteria specified in terms of craft design for the ‘Thinking hand’ were ① finger use based on opposable thumb structure, ② touch experience of various materials ③ process centered approach inducing creative thinking. Next, Seven design principles for the self-craft product were derived from the essential criteria in order to propose an handbag concept. A prototype was constructed verifying its feasibility. Three people novice in craft making participated in a self-craft experiment of the proposed handbag. The experimental results were combined with participants’ survey and interview. Results show that activity of making handbag designed according to the seven design principles adequately provided an opportunity to experience and improve making skills utilizing finger motion, sensory activation, and creative thinking. Repeated rhythmic finger motion offer immersive making experience of the hand while evoking desire to improve. Touching different materials revitalize the hand for understanding material property and its appropriate use. Process centered approach catered towards individual preferences give psychological room for higher sense of imagination to be put into practice. The essential criteria and design principles proposed in this study can be used as a measure for developing self-craft products to activate brain and bodily senses leading to a path for a higher sense of creativity. This study is expected to present a new direction for the craft culture and contribute to cultivation of diversity through making.

디자인 프로세스에서의 창조적 발상에 관한 연구

        이정화 ( Lee Jung Wha ) 대한전시디자인학회 2012 전시디자인연구 Vol.9 No.2

In general it is easy to be considered concept ideation is made logically and taken stage by stage. But the authors of ‘Sparks of Genius’, Bernsteins urges creative thinking sensed before it is translated into words, dance, and whatever, which they call as pre-logical glimmerings. And they have identified the 13 thinking tools to help us free our minds to be more creative. Based on Bernsteins’ point of view, this study analysed students’ works from interior design studio classes and identified the use of 13 tools and the pre-logic classifying them into 2groups of the glass box and the black box. These demonstrated the pre-logical and transdisciplinary aspects of the creative concept ideation. The results from the analysis proved that the concept ideation is not how to design but how to persuade itself.
