Characterisation of Melt Spun Ni-Ti Shape Memory Ribbons’ Microstructure
Kambiz Mehrabi,Mihael Brunˇcko,Albert C. Kneiss,Miodrag ˇColiˇc,Dragoslav Stamenkovic,Janko Ferˇcec,Ivan Anžel,Rebeka Rudolf 대한금속·재료학회 2012 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.18 No.3
NiTi alloys are the most technologically important medical Shape Memory Alloys in a wide range of applications used in Orthopaedics, Neurology, Cardiology and interventional Radiology as guide-wires,self-expandable stents, stent grafts, inferior vena cava filters and clinical instruments. This paper discusses the use of rapid solidification by the melt spinning method for the preparation of thin NiTi ribbons for medical uses. Generally, the application of rapid solidification via melt-spinning can change the micro-structure drastically, which improves ductility and shape memory characteristics and leads to samples with small dimensions. As the increase in the wheel speed led to a reduced ribbon thickness, the cooling rate increased and, therefore, the martensitic substructure became finer. Furthermore, no transition from the crystalline phase to the amorphous phase was obtained by increasing the cooling rate, even at a wheel speed of 30 m/s. Specimens for our metallographic investigation were cut from the longitudinal cross sec-tions of melt-spun ribbons. Conventional TEM studies were carried out with an acceleration voltage of 120 kV. Additionally, the chemical composition of the samples was examined with a TEM equipped with an EDX analyser. The crystallographic structure was determined using Bragg-Brentano x-ray diffraction with Cu-Kα radiation at room temperature.
Climate-Related Migration: Formulating a Contemporary Framework
Nilü,fer Karacasulu,İ,rem Aş,kar Karakir 서울대학교 국제학연구소 2021 Journal of International and Area Studies Vol.28 No.1
This article elaborates on the theoretical foundations as well as the empirical outputs of climaterelated migration and formulates a contemporary framework in analyzing this subject. There has been a paradigm shift from securitizing climate-related migration towards an emphasis on adaptation, resilience and justice. While it is still possible to talk about security-oriented discourses based on the realist approach, climate change has increasingly been recognized as a ‘threat multiplier’ rather than a sole primary threat. In the meantime, the liberal approach has embraced adaptation, resilience and climate justice discourses about climate refugees. On the empirical front, climate-related migration is observed mainly in South Asia, the Pacific and Africa.

Exclusive photoproduction of <i>φ</i> meson in γp→φp and pp→pφp reactions
Cisek, A.,Schä,fer, W.,Szczurek, A. Elsevier 2010 Physics letters: B Vol.690 No.2
<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The amplitude for γp→φp is calculated in a pQCD kT-factorization approach. The total cross section for this process is compared with HERA data. Total cross section, as a function of photon–proton energy and photon virtuality, is calculated. We also discuss the ratio of σL/σT and the dependence on the mass of the strange quark. The amplitude for γp→φp is used to predict the cross section for exclusive photoproduction of <I>φ</I> meson in proton–proton collisions. Absorption effects are included. The results for RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies are presented.</P>

Helichrysum graveolens(Bieb.) Sweet (Asteraceae) grows widely in Turkey. Capitulums of H. graveolensareused in the treatment of many diseases such as jaundice and wound healing and as a diuretic in the rural areas of Anatolia. The decoction from the capitulums of the plant is consumed for the symptoms of diabetes mellitus in folk medicine. In thepresent study, the hypoglycemic, antihyperglycemic, and antioxidant potentials of water and ethanol extracts of H. graveolenswere evaluated by using in vivomethods in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Blood glucose levels of animalswere measured by the glucose oxidase method. The antioxidant activity of these extracts was also studied in liver, kidney, and heart tissues. In order to determine antioxidant activity, tissue malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione levels were mea-sured by using spectrophotometric methods. The experimental data obtained from water and ethanol extracts of capitulumsconfirmed the folkloric utilization. In order to discuss the role of polyphenolic components in the relevant activity, total phe-nol and flavonoid contents of each extract were also determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, and a positive correlationwas observed.
