This study was carried out to understand, compare and analyze pollution of seven reservoirs in Suwon area divided into three areas, urban area(UA), mixed area of urban and non-urban area(MA) and non-urban area(NA), with drainage area shape of inflow stream. The result of comparison and analysis about COD concentration of three areas was that the pollution level of urban area and mixing area were high as 10.1 mg/L and 10.9 mg/L respectively, but non-urban area was relatively low as 6.9 mg/L. The reason of these results is thought that the sewage and industry sewage flowed in stream from urban area were flowed in reservoirs finally and made increase the pollution level of reservoirs. The result of this study meant that the contribution rate of point sources in pollution sources of reservoirs in Suwon area was higher than that of non-point sources when excluding duration of rainfall and showed that we needed to enhance management for point source of UA to improve the water quality in reservoirs.

Antlers have been traditionally used for thousands of years as a natural product with medicinal and pharmaceutical properties. In developing healthy foods, Bacillus-mediated fermentation is widely used to enhance the biological activity of nutrients in foods. Recently, fermentation was shown to enhance the osteogenic activity of antlers. This study aimed to elucidate the antiresorptive activity of Bacillus-fermented antler and its mode of action. We found that Bacillus-fermented antler extract strongly inhibited osteoclast differentiation by downregulating the expression and activity of nuclear factor of activated T cells, cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1). This extract also inhibited the activation of phospholipase Cγ2 (PLCγ2), a signaling molecule that could regulate NFATc1 transcriptional activity. This suggested that Bacillus-fermented antler extract could inhibit PLCγ2-NFATc1 signaling required for bone resorption and cell fusion. Consequently, Bacillus-fermented antler extract might benefit osteoclast-related disorders, including osteoporosis; furthermore, it may improve gastrointestinal activity.

Patients with colorectal cancer may experience symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and anorexia, during surgery and chemotherapy, which can increase the risk of malnutrition. In addition, dietary habits play a key role in the onset of colorectal cancer; therefore, it is necessary to improve dietary habits to prevent recurrence during treatment after diagnosis. In this study, a clinical nutritionist conducted 4 interviews for patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and scheduled for colectomy: before surgery, after surgery, 1st chemotherapy, and 2nd chemotherapy, and provided nutrition care for each treatment course to determine its effects on nutrition status and disease prognosis. Significant weight loss but no decrease in muscle mass was observed during treatment. Body fat mass, although not statistically significant, showed a decreasing tendency. The percentage of people who responded ‘yes’ to the below items increased after compared to before receiving nutrition education: ‘I eat meat or eggs more than 5 times a week,’ ‘I eat seafood at least three times a week,’ ‘I eat vegetables at every meal,’ ‘I eat fruits every day,’ and ‘I eat milk or dairy products every day.’ These results indicate that the patients changed their dietary habit from a monotonous eating pattern to a pattern of consuming various food groups after receiving nutrition education. These results suggest that continuous nutrition care by clinical dietitians, according to the patient’s treatment process, can help improve the patient's nutritional status and establish healthy eating habits.

Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) deposition disease is a heterogeneous group of diseases with CPPD crystal deposition. Aging is the most common risk factor for CPPD deposition, followed by osteoarthritis and previous injury. Occasionally, CPPD depositions are associated with familial predisposition and metabolic diseases, including hemochromatosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, hypophosphatasia, and hypomagnesemia. CPPD deposition diseases associated with primary hyperparathyroidism in Koreans have rarely been reported. Thus, we report a case of a relatively young female patient with CPPD deposition disease associated with primary hyperparathyroidism, which was diagnosed through a polarized microscopic examination of the synovial fluid and a subtotal parathyroidectomy.

The implementation of Positive behavior supports in schools for blind is an important task because it can prevent problem behavior and enhance the educational effectiveness of students with visual disabilities. The purpose of the study is to identify the experience and awareness of special teachers in implementing Positive behavior supports for students with visual disabilities. Researchers conducted focus group interviews of 13 incumbent special education teachers currently working at schools for blind and analyzed the results of the interviews. The interviews were analyzed into four major categories, eight middle categories and 20 sub-topics. The study results showed that first, students with visual disabilities showed a variety of problem behaviors, which negatively affected the safety and classroom rights of themselves and other students. Second, teachers were making various efforts to strengthen and implement Positive behavior supports capabilities. Third, teachers had a positive perception of Positive behavior supports, but they were experiencing various difficulties. Fourth, teachers were hoping to provide financial and administrative support to better implement Positive behavior supports and understanding of students with visual disabilities. Based on these results, suggestions on how to support the implementation of Positive behavior support in schools for blind were discussed.
