      • Mathematical Model for Tsutsugamishi Transmission and Control Strategy of Tsutsugamishi

        Tsutsugamushi disease, caused by a rickettsial bacteria known as Oriental tsutsugamushi, is one of the most febrile illnesses occurring throughout Korea during fall. O.tsutsugamushi is transmitted by the bite of infected, immature mites of the genus Leptotrombidium. The mites have four-stage life cycles : egg, larva, nymph, and adult. The larva is the only stage that can transmit the disease to humans and other vertebrates, since the other life stages do not feed on the host. During the process of obtaining a blood meal, they may either acquire the infection from the host or transmit the rickettiae to the other rodents or humans. The model can be divided the life cycle of mite into 2 stages : Larva and Adult. And the larva stage can be subdivided according to the phase of activity : questing and feeding. Mites enter either the susceptible questing larvae or infectious questing larvae through birth. When the larva bites an infectious hosts, then the larva moves from the susceptible questing to the infectious feeding class with some probability. On the other hand, hosts also enter the susceptible class through birth. And when an infectious larva bites a susceptible host, then the host enters the infectious class with some probability. In this talk, we introduce our mathematical model for the tsutsugamushi disease, and show the existence and stability condition of the disease-free equilibrium, which is a kind of threshold for the tsutsugamushi disease transmission, and also define the basic reproduction ratio R0. And we discuss about R0 related to all parameters.

        Nucleic Acid Engineering: RNA Following the Trail of DNA

        <P>The self-assembly feature of the naturally occurring biopolymer, DNA, has fascinated researchers in the fields of materials science and bioengineering. With the improved understanding of the chemical and structural nature of DNA, DNA based constructs have been designed and fabricated from two-dimensional arbitrary shapes to reconfigurable three-dimensional nanodevices. Although DNA has been used successfully as a building block in a finely organized and controlled manner, its applications need to be explored. Hence, with the myriad of biological functions, RNA has recently attracted considerable attention to further the application of nucleic acid-based structures. This Review categorizes different approaches of engineering nucleic acid-based structures and introduces the concepts, principles, and applications of each technique, focusing on how DNA engineering is applied as a guide to RNA engineering.</P>

      • A Practically Implementable Anti-Slip Control with Slip Indicator for a Two-Wheeled Balancing Robots

        When a two-wheeled inverted pendulum (TWIP) robot travels on slippery roads, it experiences the wheel slip phenomenon which may cause rollovers or turnovers due to the posture control failure. As the wheel-slip becomes severe, the control input for keeping the balancing posture cannot be successfully transferred to the driving surface and it can bring about the out-of-control status. To handle this problem, an implementable anti-slip control input must be considered for improving the robustness of the posture control loop on low-friction surfaces. In this paper, we give a detailed analysis on the behavior of the TWIP vehicle under various low-traction conditions and suggest an easy-to-apply anti-slip control algorithm by combining the maximum transmissible torque estimation (MTTE) method and a kind of slip indicator. Comparative simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

        Disapproval Judgment System of Research Fund Execution Details Based on Artificial Intelligence

        In this paper, we propose an intelligent research fund management system that applies artificial intelligence technology to an integrated research fund management system. By defining research fund management rules as work rules, a detection model learned using deep learning is designed, through which the disapproval status is presented for each research fund usage history. The disapproval detection system of the RCMS implemented in this study predicts whether the newly registered usage details are recognized or disapproved using an artificial intelligence model designed based on the use of an 8.87 million research fund registered in the RCMS. In addition, the item-detail recommendation system described herein presents the usage details according to the usage history item newly registered by the artificial intelligence model through a correlation between the research cost usage details and the item itself. The accuracy of the recommendation was shown to be 97.21%.

      • 저수지 증고에 의한 정읍 도심하천유량 증가 효과

        유역면적이 51.6km2인 정읍천의 도심하천에 맑은 물 공급을 위해 상류에 위치한 부전지와 내장지의 높이를 높여 도심구간의 하천유지유량이 얼마나 증가되는지 진단하기 위해 1966년부터 2007년까지 일별로 유량을 모의하여 평가한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 도심하천의 저폭, 수심, 유속 등을 고려하여 목표유량을 0.24m3/s로 설정하였으며, 상류 저수지의 증고전의 저수지의 방류량을 고려한 정읍 도심하천 유량을 모의하여 유황을 분석한 결과는 연평균하여 풍수량은 0.545m3/s, 평수량은 0.277m3/s, 저수량은 0.159m3/s, 강수량은 0.120m3/s으로 분석되었으며, 목표유량 0.240m3/s에 미치지 못하였다. 둘째, 증고전 총저수량 171만 ㎥, 수혜면적 249 ha인 부전지의 저수량 변화를 분석한 결과 연평균하여 강수량은 630만 ㎥, 1312.9 mm, 유입량은 324만 ㎥, 674.6 mm/day/㎢, 유입량/강우량 비율은 51.4 %였고, 저수면 증발량은 10만 ㎥, 관개용수공급량은 277만 ㎥ (일평균 8,000 ㎥), 월류량은 68만㎥, 저수량은 112만 ㎥, 저수율은 65.5 %였으며, 총저수량 468만 ㎥, 수혜면적 658 ha인 내장지의 결과는 강수량은 3,020만 ㎥, 1312.9 mm, 유입량은 1,549만 ㎥, 673.7 mm/day/㎢, 유입량/강우량 비율은 51.3 %였고, 저수면 증발량은 51만 ㎥, 관개용수공급량은 732만 ㎥ (일평균 2.0만 ㎥), 월류량은 789 만 ㎥, 저수량은 384만 ㎥로, 저수율은 82.1 %였다. 셋째, 내장지만을 3 m 높임으로써 정읍 도심하천의 유황은 풍수량은 0.621 ㎥/s, 평수량은 0.420 ㎥/s, 저수량은 0.311 ㎥/s, 갈수량은 0.241 ㎥/s로 목표유량 0.240 ㎥/s를 달성하였다. 결과적으로 정읍천은 상류 저수지의 증고에 의해 도심하천의 유량을 증가시킬 수 있는 여유가 있는 것으로 분석되었으며, 하천수질보전, 하천생태계보호, 하천경관보전, 지하수위 유지 등의 효과를 위한 사업의 타당성이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

        윌리엄 캐리의 사역과 업적

        The purpose of this paper is to examine the life, work, and legacy of William Carey, the father of modern missions. This paper consists of four main parts. The first part is a survey of the life and work of William Carey in England. It explains the life of young Carey, his conversion experience and Baptism, Carey`s Ministry in Baptist churches, the foundation of Baptist Missionary Society of English Particular Baptists. The second part deals with the works of Carey in India. It examines the situation of India when Carey arrived there, Carey`s works in Serampore such as direct evangelism, Bible translation, establishment of schools, and church plantings. The third part deals with two controversies. The first controversy is about the communion pattern which was happened among Serampore missionaries. The second is about the question of whom should have leadership in controlling of missions property. It was happened between Serampore missionaries and Baptist Missionary Society. The fourth main part of this paper examines the achievements of William Carey such as the civilization and social reform for Indian people, and the accomplishment of freedom for missionary work.

        In this paper, we propose the method that extract shape features using the DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) via simple invariant normalization. To retrieve effectively, we used measures, circularity and eccentricity, as filters to reduce the number of retrieved images. The experimental results show that our method is better than the methods of Fourier Descriptors and Moment Invariant for various leaf images.

        셀프-밸런싱 역진자 로봇에 대한 모델기반 실시간 궤적생성 방법

        When a two-wheeled self-balancing mobile robot performs a rapid speed change, the nonlinear characteristic of the inverted pendulum dominates the pitch motion, and maintaining the postural stability becomes difficult when using a conventional linear controller only. Hence, in order to ensure agility and mobility in addition to postural stability during an acceleration or deceleration phase, an appropriate reference trajectory for the velocity and pitch control loop is needed in place of the typical step reference input. In this paper, we propose a real-time trajectory generation method for the underactuated self-balancing robot based on solving the nonlinear equation of motion, considering the dynamic characteristics, and applying numerical approximations. The effectiveness of the proposed planning scheme was confirmed through comparative simulations and experiments.

      • 상류저수지에 의한 수원천 도심구간의 침수피해 저감효과

        우리나라의 경우 협소한 국토면적과 과다한 인구로 도지나 수자원 등 국토자원 이용의 강도가 다른 나라에 비하여 현저하게 높기 때문에 약간의 기후변동으로도 심각한 수자원 문제가 발생할 가능성이 내포되어 있다. 기상청(국제적 기후변화 현황, 2008) 발표에 따르면 최근 50년간(1954-2003) 강수일수(강수량 0.1mm이상)는 감소하고, 호우일수(80mm이상)는 1954-1963년은 1.6일/년인데 비하여 1994-2003년은 2.3일/년으로 증가추세이다. 최근 10년간(1996-2005) 15개 지점 평균연강수량은 1458.7mm로 평균대비 약 10% 증가 하였고, 여름은 18%로 증가폭이 가장 크며, 호우일수는 30년 평균이 2일인데 비하여 2.8일로 0.8일 증가하였다(기상청, 2008). 홍수와 태풍 등이 점차적으로 대형화 되면서 자연재해에 피해규모가 커지고 있다. 특히, 인구와 자산이 밀집된 도시지역에서의 침수피해가 빈번히 발생하고 있으며, 발생 시기나 규모를 벗어난 가뭄, 홍수 등 이상 기후현상이 빈번하게 관측되며, 그에 따라 막대한 인명과 재산피해를 입고 있는 실정이다. 저수지는 물의 과다 또는 과소를 조절하는 인공시설로서 홍수피해를 절감하는 동시에 용수를 확보할 수 없을 때 중요한 용수원이 되며, 이러한 수자원 시설물의 용수 공급과 홍수방어능력이 중요시 될 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구는 상류에 홍수조절 효과를 기할 수 있는 저수지가 존재하는 수원천의 도심구간에 홍수범람시 건물 침수면적을 분석한 결과 침수면적이 81886m<sup>2</sup>에서 62589m<sup>2</sup>로 19297m<sup>2</sup> 저감되었다. 이처럼 저수지와 같은 수자원시설물은 농촌에만 필요한 것이 아니며, 도심하천의 유지유량확보와 홍수량 저감의 효과를 가져다준다.
