      • GG-38 : Minimal invasive surgery (LESS) for huge cystic adnexal tumors in whole abdomen

( In Young Choi ),( Ji Hye Lee ),( Mi Hyun Park ),( Ji Kwoun Park ),( Jeong Kyu Shin1 ),( Won Jun Choi1 ),( Soon Ae Lee ),( Jong Hak Lee ),( Won Young Paik ) 대한산부인과학회 2014 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.100 No.-

Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) is helpful if not an evidence of suspicious malignancy in huge adnexa tumors. This approach might be reasonable alternative to conventional laparoscopic surgery. We report two cases with LESS for huge cystic adnexal tumors in whole abdomen. A 58 years old multigravida woman in menopause underwent removal of a huge cystic adnexal mass that occupied her entire abdomen by LESS.(ca.5200ml aspiration) A 15 years old single nulligravida woman had a huge cystic adnexal tumor in whole abdomen reaching to the level of the xyphoid process. A needle through the transumbilical single port was inserted directly under the mass. Subsequently, 8000 ml of cystic fluid was aspirated without spillage.

On the basis of UPOV (Union Internationale Pour la Protaection des Obtentions Vegetables) and NSMO(National Seed Management Office) the transgenic 'Milyang 204' showed difference in some traits out of some agronomic traits, such as leaf color, angle of flag leaf, number of spikelets, culm length, white core and white belly compared to the non-transgenic varieties rice.

      • Prevalence and Factors Associated with Neck and Jaw Muscle Modulation of Tinnitus

        Won, Jun Yeon,Yoo, Shinyoung,Lee, Seok Ki,Choi, Hyun Kyung,Yakunina, Natalia,Le, Quang,Nam, Eui-Cheol S. Karger AG 2013 Audiology & neuro-otology Vol.18 No.4

<P>Abstract</P><P>Forceful contractions of neck and jaw muscles have consistently been shown to modulate tinnitus and can be used to screen patients who are responsive to somatic stimulation and, therefore, optimal candidates for somatosensory-based treatment. To identify the factors associated with somatic modulation of tinnitus, 163 patients underwent 19 neck and jaw maneuvers after an extensive physiological and audiological profile was compiled. Overall, tinnitus was modulated in 57.1% of ears tested. Unilateral tinnitus showed greater prevalence of modulation. Neck maneuvers generally decreased tinnitus loudness, whereas jaw maneuvers increased loudness. Female gender and buzzing tinnitus were associated with a high prevalence of modulation and a decrease in tinnitus loudness. Loud tinnitus and low-pitched tonal tinnitus were associated with exacerbation of the condition as a result of somatic testing. Use of these characteristics to select optimal candidates for somatosensory-based tinnitus therapies may be essential for the development of an effective approach for tinnitus treatment.</P><P>Copyright © 2013 S. Design of trimodal Fe micro-nanopowder feedstock for micro powder injection molding

        Choi, Joon-Phil,Park, Jin-Soo,Song, Jun-Il,Lee, Won-Sik,Lee, Jai-Sung Elsevier 2017 Powder technology Vol.317 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The design of the trimodal powder feedstock and its feasibility for micro powder injection molding (μ-PIM) were investigated. The feedstock was prepared by mixing Fe micropowder (D50 =4μm) and nanopowder agglomerate composed of a bimodal particle distribution (D50 =330nm and D50 =30nm, respectively) with low viscosity wax-based binders. The homogeneity of the feedstock was evaluated by torque rheometer, microstructure observations, binder burnout analysis, and an extrusion test. The trimodal concept in this study effectively improved the powder loading up to 72vol%, and the feedstock with 70vol% powder loading exhibited good homogeneity and flowability. By using the feedstock, the microparts were successfully replicated with sufficient shape retention to be potentially useful for a range of μ-PIM applications.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A novel design concept is reported to produce trimodal powder feedstock for μ-PIM. </LI> <LI> Fe nanopowder agglomerates show a bimodal size distribution of 330nm and 30nm. </LI> <LI> Feedstock homogeneity is evaluated by mixing torque, extrusion, SEM, and TGA. </LI> <LI> Feedstock with 70vol% powder loading exhibits a high homogeneity and moldability. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Propane to light olefins by one-pot cascade and series reactions

        Jun, Jong-Won,Kim, Tae-Wan,Choi, Won Choon,Kim, Chul-Ung Elsevier 2019 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING JOURNAL -LAUSANNE- Vol.377 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Propane is selectively converted to propylene via propane dehydrogenation (PDH) process for an on-purpose propylene usage. Due to regional market demands, olefin interconversion for propylene-to-ethylene (PTE) is required to control the supply-demand of light olefins. Our concern centers on combining the PDH and PTE reactions to achieve a simple catalytic process for selective production of light olefins from propane. Herein, converting propane to light olefins is investigated via cascade and series PDH-PTE reactions over highly selective two catalysts. From the catalytic results, selectively produced propylene over a PDH catalyst (Cr2O3/Al2O3) from propane was readily converted to other light olefins over a PTE catalyst (modified ZSM-5). The modified ZSM-5 as the PTE catalysts was further studied in the both cascade and series reactions with different reaction conditions in order to find an optimum reaction condition for high olefin yield and selectivity with low methane selectivity as well as to investigate the influence of process parameters on the catalytic activity. The AHFS treated ZSM-5 (AHFS-ZSM-5) as the PTE catalyst in PDH-PTE series reaction exhibited a superior light olefin yield (50.7 wt%) and olefin selectivities up to 76.7 wt% (26.9 wt% ethylene, 38.0 wt% propylene, and 11.8 wt% butenes) with low methane selectivity (4.27 wt%) at 550 °C, WHSV 7 h−1, and propylene partial pressure in the PDH model feed 0.025 MPa.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The process of propane to light olefins was investigated via the PDH-PTE cascade and series reactions. </LI> <LI> Propylene from PDH was readily converted to other light olefins over PTE catalysts. </LI> <LI> Various reaction conditions for the production of olefins with low C1 selectivity are studied. </LI> <LI> A series of reactions will exhibit better reaction performance than other types of propane cracking. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Resistance Mechanisms and Clinical Features of Fluconazole-Nonsusceptible <i>Candida tropicalis</i> Isolates Compared with Fluconazole-Less-Susceptible Isolates

        Choi, Min Ji,Won, Eun Jeong,Shin, Jong Hee,Kim, Soo Hyun,Lee, Wee-Gyo,Kim, Mi-Na,Lee, Kyungwon,Shin, Myung Geun,Suh, Soon Pal,Ryang, Dong Wook,Im, Young Jun American Society for Microbiology 2016 Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Vol.60 No.6

<P>We investigated the azole resistance mechanisms and clinical features of fluconazole-nonsusceptible (FNS) isolates of Candida tropicalis recovered from Korean surveillance cultures in comparison with fluconazole-less-susceptible (FLS) isolates. Thirty-five clinical isolates of C. tropicalis, comprising 9 FNS (fluconazole MIC, 4 to 64 mu g/ml), 12 FLS (MIC, 1 to 2 mu g/ml), and 14 control (MIC, 0.125 to 0.5 mu g/ml) isolates, were assessed. CDR1, MDR1, and ERG11 expression was quantified, and the ERG11 and UPC2 genes were sequenced. Clinical features of 16 patients with FNS or FLS bloodstream isolates were analyzed. Both FNS and FLS isolates had> 10-fold higher mean expression levels of CDR1, MDR1, and ERG11 genes than control isolates (P values of< 0.02 for all). When FNS and FLS isolates were compared, FNS isolates had 3.4-fold higher mean ERG11 expression levels than FLS isolates (P = 0.004), but there were no differences in those of CDR1 or MDR1. Of all 35 isolates, 4 (2 FNS and 2 FLS) and 28 (8 FNS, 11 FLS, and 9 control) isolates exhibited amino acid substitutions in Erg11p and Upc2p, respectively. Both FNS and FLS bloodstream isolates were associated with azole therapeutic failure (3/4 versus 4/7) or uncleared fungemia (4/6 versus 4/10), but FNS isolates were identified more frequently from patients with previous azole exposure (6/6 versus 3/10; P = 0.011) and immunosuppression (6/6 versus 3/10; P = 0.011). These results reveal that the majority of FNS C. tropicalis isolates show overexpression of CDR1, MDR1, and ERG11 genes, and fungemia develops after azole exposure in patients with immunosuppression.</P>

      • Improved electroluminescence from ZnO light-emitting diodes by p-type MgZnO electron blocking layer.

        Choi, Yong-Seok,Kang, Jang-Won,Kim, Byeong-Hyeok,Na, Dong-Keun,Lee, Sang-Jun,Park, Seong-Ju Optical Society of America 2013 Optics express Vol.21 No.10

<P>We report on the effect of a p-type MgZnO electron blocking layer (EBL) on the electroluminescence from n-type ZnO/undoped ZnO/ptype ZnO light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The p-type Mg0.1Zn0.9O EBL was introduced between the undoped and p-type ZnO layers. The p-type Mg0.1Zn0.9O EBL increased the ultraviolet emission by 140% at 60 mA and decreased the broad deep-level emission from ZnO LEDs. The calculated band structures and carrier distribution in ZnO LEDs show that p-type Mg0.1Zn0.9O EBL effectively suppresses the electron overflow from undoped ZnO to p-type ZnO and increases the hole concentration in the undoped ZnO layer. Clinical Characteristics and Treatment Outcomes of Patients with Macrolide-Resistant <i>Mycobacterium massiliense</i> Lung Disease

        Choi, Hayoung,Kim, Su-Young,Lee, Hyun,Jhun, Byung Woo,Park, Hye Yun,Jeon, Kyeongman,Kim, Dae Hun,Huh, Hee Jae,Ki, Chang-Seok,Lee, Nam Yong,Lee, Seung-Heon,Shin, Sung Jae,Daley, Charles L.,Koh, Won-Jun American Society for Microbiology 2017 Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Vol.61 No.2

<P>Macrolide antibiotics are cornerstones in the treatment of Mycobacterium massiliense lung disease. Despite the emergence of resistance, limited data on macrolide-resistant M. massiliense lung disease are available. This study evaluated the clinical features and treatment outcomes of patients and the molecular characteristics of macrolide-resistant M. massiliense isolates. We performed a retrospective review of medical records and genetic analyses of clinical isolates from 15 patients who had macrolide-resistant M. massiliense lung disease between September 2005 and February 2015. Nine patients (60%) had the nodular bronchiectatic form of the disease, and six (40%) had the fibrocavitary form. Before the detection of macrolide resistance, three patients (20%) were treated with macrolide monotherapy, four (27%) with therapy for presumed Mycobacterium avium complex infections, and eight (53%) with combination antibiotic therapy for M. massiliense lung disease. The median treatment duration after the detection of resistance was 18.7 months (inter-quartile range, 11.2 to 39.8 months). Treatment outcomes were poor, with a favorable outcome being achieved for only one patient (7%), who underwent surgery in addition to antibiotic therapy. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year mortality rates were 7, 13, and 33%, respectively. Of the 15 clinical isolates, 14 (93%) had point mutations at position 2058 (n = 9) or 2059 (n = 5) of the 23S rRNA gene, resulting in macrolide resistance. Our study indicates that treatment outcomes are poor and mortality rates are high after the development of macrolide resistance in patients with M. massiliense lung disease. Thus, preventing the development of macrolide resistance should be a key consideration during treatment.</P>

Visceral Fat as a Useful Parameter in the Differential Diagnosis of Crohn`s Disease and Intestinal Tuberculosis

( Jun Kwon Ko ),( Hang Lak Lee ),( Jin Ok Kim ),( Soon Young Song ),( Kang Nyeong Lee ),( Dae Won Jun ),( Oh Young Lee ),( Dong Soo Han ),( Byung Chul Yoon ),( Ho Soon Choi ),( Joon Soo Hahm ),( Sang 대한장연구학회 2014 Intestinal Research Vol.12 No.1

Background/Aims: Because of the similarities in the clinical presentations of Crohn`s disease (CD) and intestinal tuberculosis (ITB), differential diagnosis is critical. Mesenteric adipose tissue hypertrophy and creeping fat are characteristic features of CD. The purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness of visceral fat for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 50 patients with findings of CD or ITB between January 2005 and July 2008. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) was performed on all subjects during their first evaluation. The abdominal fat area was assessed using quantitative abdominal CT. Results: The ratio of visceral fat to total fat (VF/TF) was significantly higher in male CD patients than in male ITB patients. The ratio of visceral fat to subcutaneous fat (VF/SF) was also higher in CD patients than in patients with ITB. For a VF/TF cut-off value of 0.46, the sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of CD were 42.1% and 93.3% respectively, with positive and negative predictive values of 88.9% and 56.0%, respectively. Conclusion: Measurement of the abdominal fat area using CT can be clinically useful for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB. (Intest Res 2014;12:42-47)
