<P>Perturbative experiments have been carried out using tangential neutral beam injection (NBI) and non-resonant magnetic perturbation (NRMP) to analyze the momentum transport properties in KSTAR H-modes. Diffusive and non-diffusive terms of momentum transport are evaluated from the transient analysis. Although the operating conditions and methodologies applied in the two cases are similar, the momentum transport properties obtained show clear differences. The estimated momentum diffusivity and pinch obtained in the NBI modulation experiments is larger than that in the NRMP modulation experiments. We found that this discrepancy could be a result of uncertainties in the assumption for the analysis. By introducing time varying momentum transport coefficients depending on the temperature gradient, the linearized equation shows that if the temperature perturbation exists, the evolution of toroidal rotation perturbation could be faster than the transport rate of mean quantity, since the evolution of toroidal rotation perturbation is related to <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0029-5515/58/6/066008/nfaab90eieqn001.gif'/>, a momentum diffusivity from perturbative analysis. This could explain the estimated higher momentum diffusivity using time independent transport coefficients in NBI experiments with higher ion temperature perturbation compared to that in NRMP modulation experiments. The differences in the momentum transport coefficient with NRMP and NBI are much reduced by considering time varying momentum transport coefficients in the time dependent transport simulation.</P>
INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM PROCESSING IN THE INNER 20 pc IN GALACTIC CENTER

<P>We present the Submillimeter Array 157 pointing mosaic in 0.86 mm dust continuum emission with 5 ''.1 x 4 ''.2 angular resolution, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory Green Bank 100 m Telescope (GBT) observations of the CS/(CS)-S-34/(CS)-C-13 1-0 and SiO 1-0 emission with <= 20 '' x 18 '' angular resolution. The dust continuum image marginally resolves at least several tens of 10-10(2) M-circle dot dense clumps in the 5' field including the circumnuclear disk (CND) and the exterior gas streamers. There is very good agreement between the high resolution dust continuum map of the CND and all previous molecular line observations. As the dust emission is the most reliable optically thin tracer of the mass, free from most chemical and excitation effects, we demonstrate the reality of the abundant localized structures within the CND, and their connection to external gas structures. From the spectral line data, the velocity dispersions of the dense clumps and their parent molecular clouds are similar to 10-20 times higher than their virial velocity dispersions. This supports the idea that the CND and its immediate environment may not be stationary or stable structures. Some of the dense gas clumps are associated with 22 GHz water masers and 36.2 GHz and 44.1 GHz CH3OH masers. However, we do not find clumps that are bound by the gravity of the enclosed molecular gas. Hence, the CH3OH or H2O maser emission may be due to strong (proto) stellar feedback, which may be dispersing some of the gas clumps.</P>
Loss-Separation Study on Silica-insulated Gas-atomized Fe-Si-Al Soft Magnetic Composites

Fe-Si-Al soft magnetic composites were composed of gas-atomized Fe-9.6wt.%Si-5.4wt.%Al alloy powders insulated with silica nanoparticles. The influence of silica insulation content on the core’s magnetic properties was studied. It was found that increasing the silica mass ratio deteriorated the effective permeability and core loss in the frequency range of 40-120 kHz, while improved the quality factor at 100 kHz and DC-bias performance. The effective demagnetizing field reflected by density and the core’s volume resistivity may cause the variations of these magnetic parameters. Loss separation fitting was performed using the Bertotti formula, indicating that silica insulation increased the hysteresis loss and reduced the eddy-current loss. The hysteresis loss took over at the frequency lower than 120 kHz in this work. With increasing the frequency, the eddy-current loss grew more quickly than the hysteresis loss. Therefore, different methods should be adopted to reduce the core loss according to the core’s application frequency.

<P>ABSTRACT</P><P>We have made an asteroseismic analysis of the variable blue stragglers in the open cluster M67. The data set consists of photometric time-series from eight sites using nine 0.6–2.1 m telescopes with a time-baseline of 43 d. In two stars, EW Cnc and EX Cnc, we detect the highest number of frequencies (41 and 26) detected in δ Scuti stars belonging to a stellar cluster, and EW Cnc has the second highest number of frequencies detected in any δ Scuti star. We have computed a grid of pulsation models that take the effects of rotation into account. The distribution of observed and theoretical frequencies shows that in a wide frequency range a significant fraction of the radial and non-radial low-degree modes are excited to detectable amplitudes. Despite the large number of observed frequencies we cannot constrain the fundamental parameters of the stars. To make progress we need to identify the degrees of some of the modes from either multicolour photometry or spectroscopy.</P>

<P>In neurons, synaptotagmin 1 (Syt1) is thought to mediate the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the plasma membrane when presynaptic Ca2+ levels rise. However, in vitro reconstitution experiments have failed to recapitulate key characteristics of Ca2+-triggered membrane fusion. Using an in vitro single-vesicle fusion assay, we found that membrane-anchored Syt1 enhanced Ca2+ sensitivity and fusion speed. This stimulatory activity of membrane-anchored Syt1 dropped as the Ca2+ level rose beyond physiological levels. Thus, Syt1 requires the membrane anchor to stimulate vesicle fusion at physiological Ca2+ levels and may function as a dynamic presynaptic Ca2+ sensor to control the probability of neurotransmitter release.</P>

Observation of the intrinsic rotation in KSTAR Ohmic L-mode plasmas

<P>Two types of experiments were carried out to conduct an intrinsic rotation study in KSTAR. The first was a density ramp-up experiment without neutral beam injection, and the second was an experiment with beam blip technique. In these experiments, some characteristics of the intrinsic rotation were observed in the KSTAR Ohmic L-mode plasmas including: (i) a non-monotonic dependence of the core intrinsic rotation, called U-curve behaviour, with respect to the electron density and the collisionality related to the gradient of the toroidal rotation profile; and (ii) the behaviour of the anchor point in the intrinsic rotation profile for which the region exhibits a roughly flat shape and stays at nearly the same value even if the gradient of the toroidal rotation changes significantly in the core region. The location of the anchor point seems to be related to the <I>q</I> profile, and the toroidal rotation at the anchor point changes with the plasma operation parameters. These observations in the KSTAR Ohmic L-mode plasmas seem to be related to the rotation reversal phenomenon. A transport analysis was performed for the beam blip experiments in order to evaluate the intrinsic torque so that the U-curve behaviour can be further understood. The first results of the transport analysis in the KSTAR Ohmic L-mode plasmas show a correlation of the momentum fluxes and the intrinsic torques with the electron density and the collisionality. The rough magnitude and profiles of the intrinsic torque was experimentally obtained, and their possible mechanism is briefly discussed.</P>
