        The effect of acid-base on the electrical and mechanical properties of myocardial cells were investigated in the isolated right ventricular papillary muscle preparations of rabbits by measuring simultaneously isometric contraction and the action potential by glass microelectrode transducer in acidic or alkali conditions respectively. Results were as follow : 1. The acid condition decreased the isometric contraction and at the sametime increased the time to repolarize 90% of its action potential amplitude.(Repol 90%) from 234±9.1 msec of the control to 244±6.8msec(P<0.01). 2. The alkali condition, on the other hand, increased the isometric contraction and lengthened Repol 90% from 256±49.3 msec of the control to 286±75.2msec(P<0.1) but Repol 95% lengthened more prominently from 281±66.8msec of the control to 329±101.5(P<0.05). The above result suggests that acid and alkali decreased and increased slow inward current respectively to reduce and augment the isometric contraction. In acidic condition, the reduction in delayed outward current might also play a role in augmented action potential duration.

        In this paper we investigate a identification system with a single neuron. The identified performance of multi-layer perceptrons are compared with the proposed identification model and simulated. The number of the input of the proposed single nueron is 6. The proposed method of the identified system with a single nueron simplify the architecture of the identified system with the neural network and then we can know that the identified performance of the proposed system is similar with the identified performance of the system with the multi-layer neural network by the simulation. We simulated by using the non-linear model, proposed by K.S.Narendra and K.Parthaday.

        척수손상·비손상인의 신체부위별 신체구성 및 골밀도 비교

        This study was designed to compare segmental body composition and bone mineral density in spinal cord-injured(SCIS; n=9, SCIA; n=9) and non-injured control(AB; n=9) subjects. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA) was used to measure %body fat, body fat mass, lean body mass, bone mineral contents, and bone mineral density in total and various body regions(arms, legs, trunk). The present results showed that body fat mass and %body fat were significantly higher and lean body mass was significantly lower in the SCIS group compared to AB group, while there was no difference between the SCIA and AB group in those of parameters. In BMC, there was no difference among groups and in BMD, SCI group was significantly lower that AB group, but there was no difference between SCIA group and AB group. Based on these results, in can be suggested that long-term regular exercise can reduce the negative changes in body composition, bone mineral density by spinal cord injury.

        In this paper, we propose a nonlinear system identification method using genetic algorithm. We represent the nonlinear system as a parameter vector and a measurement vector. In order to identify the nonlinear system, we find the parameter vector using genetic algorithm. The parameter vector is regarded as a chromosome of gene. The error between the desired output and estimated output every sampling period is used to calculate the fitness of one gene. The simulation results showed the effectiveness of using the genetic algorithm in the nonlinear system identification.

      • Posttransfusion Hepatitis in Korea

        In order to clarify the entities of posttransfusion hepatitis, serum samples were obtained for determination of HBsAg and the activities of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST, SGOT) and serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT, SGPT) from the blood of all the donors and recipients prior to transfusion. Donor's HBsAg was tested by reverse passive hemagglutination method and hepatitis B virus markers in recipient's serum were determined by radio-immunoassay. We attempted to test the recipient’s blood every two weeks for a minimum of six months to a year after transfusion of donor blood negative for HBsAg. Of the 327 recipients selected among 2,760 transfused patients, 215 went through adequate follow-up study. The recipients containing HBsAg before transfusion were also excluded. Fifty-three (24.7%) of the followed patients developed the elevated ALT level greater than 40 Sigma units and of these twenty one over 100 units. These cases were studied by regular interview, physical examination and blood chemistry. Four of these had icteric viral hepatitis, while in the others hepatitis was anicteric. Incubation period was two weeks in 50.9% of posttransfusion hepatitis cases, five to ten weeks in 24.6%, and over 12 weeks in 12.2%. Hepatitis developed in 61.5% of patients receiving over 10 units of blood while hepatitis occurred in 37.6% of those who received below 4 units. Thus a direct correlation between the amount of blood transfused and development of hepatitis was noted. The incidence of HBsAg in recipients with hepatitis was 20.8%, anti-HBs 81.7%, and anti-HBc 100%. It is presumed that the incidence of posttransfusion hepatitis is 24.7%, of which hepatitis A was 0%, hepatitis B 20.8% and non-A, non-B 79.2%. Long term follow-up evaluation is soling on.

      • Correlation of Transfusion Hepatitis with or Without Hepatitis Associated Antigen in Donor Blood

        Serum samples were obtained for determination of the hepatitis associated antigen(HAA) by the immunodiffusion method, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) activity from all of the donor as well as recipient blood prior to transfus-ion. We attempted to test the recipient blood for HAA, SGOT every two weeks for the next sixth month after transfusion. 5.4 per cent of the 1,666 donor blood was positive for HAA(Table 1). Of 621 recipients, 95 had adequate follow-up, while 526 were removed from the study because of death, inadequate follow-up, or history of transfusion or liver diseases before this study. The recipients containing HAA before transfusion were also withheld from the follow-up.

        The Ambulatory Fiberoptic Reflux Monitoring in Bile Reflux Gastritis : Histologic Changes and Duodenogastric Reflux

        Background: Bile reflux gastritis is known to be one of non-ulcer dyspepsia. Bile reflux occurs sporadically and duodenogastric reflux disease cannot be accurately diagnosed by endoscopy. The main pro- blem in diagnosis of bile reflux gastritis is the lack, of a gold standard for enterogastric reflux measurement. We performed ambulatory fiberoptic reflux monitoring(Bilitec 2000, Synetics) on bile reflux gastritis patients. The aims of this study were 1) to evaluate the role of ambulatory fiberoptic reflux monitoring in the diagnosis of bile reflux gastritis. 2) to evaluate the extent and pattern of duodenogastric reflux in bile reflux gastritis patients. 3) to know the interrelationship between the extent of bile reflux and severity of histologic changes in intact stomach. Materials and Methods: Eighteen endoscopically diagnosed bile reflux gastritis patients and 10 controls who had no endoscopic evidence of bile reflux underwent ambulatory fiberoptic reflux monitoring(Bilitec 2000, Synetics). Tissue specimens for histologic study were obtained endoscopically from antrum 2 ctn proximal to the pylorus from each patient. Results: In bile reflux gastritis, the bile reflux duration(percentages of total measured time above absorbance 0.14) was found to be significantly higher than the control group(33.6?13.3% vs 5.7?2.7%, p$lt;0.05). Bile reflux duration was longer in supineperiods than in upright periods(43.8?4.30% vs 23.3?4.0%, p$lt;0.05). The nighttime bile reflux was higher than daytime significantly(47.7?4.5% vs 17.1?4.5%) in bile reflux gastritis. There was no correlation between bile reflux duration and histologic changes in bile reflux gastritis(r=-0.47, p=0.09). Conclusions: Ambulatory fiberoptic reflux monitoring is useful in diagnosis of enterogastric reflux. Bi]e reflux occurs main)y in supine period of nighttime and the duration of bile reflux has no relationship with severity of histologic changes.
