The highest number of bacterial cell was observed in chicken washed water compared with the natural and chilled water. Fifteen bacterial strains were islated from the chicken processing water. When they were identified by the Bergey's Mannual of determinative bacteriology, they were all identified as the family Enterobacteriaceae; one genus of Citrobacter, three genera of Enterobacter, and four genera of Klebsiella except one isolate unknown. The concentration of Na₂HCIO₄to inhibit all the bacterial strains 30ppm, on the other hand the concentration of CIO₂to retard bacterial growth was 70ppm. The effective concentration of CIO₂was various according to bacterial species.

Less costly but still accurate methods for monitoring HIV treatment response are needed. We prospectively evaluated if a qualitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification assay for virologic monitoring could maintain accuracy while reducing costs in Seoul, South Korea. We conducted the first prospective study comparing a qualitative PCR amplification of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) versus a commercial real time PCR assay (i.e., viral load) for virologic monitoring of 150 patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) between November 2011 and August 2012 at an urban hospital in Seoul, South Korea. A total of 215 blood plasma samples from 150 patients receiving ART for more than 6 months were evaluated. Using the individual viral load assay, 12 of 215 (5.6%) plasma samples had more than 500 HIV RNA copies/ml. The qualitative PCR amplification assay detected individual samples with 500 HIV RNA copies/ml with 100% sensitivity. The specificities of the qualitative PCR amplification of the HIV-1 RT assay were 94.1%, 93.6%, and 93.2% compared to the real time PCR at 500, 1,000, and 5,000 threshold of HIV RNA copies/ml, respectively, and $24,940 USD would have been saved for 150 patients during 10 months. The qualitative PCR amplification of the HIV-1 RT assay might be a useful approach to effectively monitor patients receiving ART and save resources.

Background: Sepsis including severe sepsis and septic shock is a major cause of high morbidity and mortality. Albumin and CRP is both good diagnostic marker for sepsis. Thus, we combined initial CRP and albumin together to . nd out whether this value could be an independent predictor of 28-day mortality in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving 670 patients (>18 years old) who were admitted to the emergency department and received a standardized resuscitation algorithm (early goal-directed therapy) for severe sepsis and septic shock from November 2007 to February 2013 at a tertiary hospital, Seoul, Korea. The main outcome measure was 28-day all-cause mortality. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify independent risk factors for mortality. And, we conducted a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis to compare the predictive accuracy of CRP alone and CRP/albumin ratio at admission. Results: The 28.day mortality was 14.4% (97/670). According to multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis, the CRP/albumin ratio, lactate level and the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score at admission were independent predictors of 28-day mortality (p=0.001, p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). In addition, the area under the curve of CRP alone and CRP/albumin ratio at admission for 28-day mortality were 0.5935 (P<0.001) and 0.6581 (P<0.001), respectively. Conclusions: The CRP/albumin ratio was an independent predictor of mortality in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock. Moreover, the use of the CRP/albumin ratio as a prognostic marker in severe sepsis or septic shock might provide more consistent results than CRP values alone.

The Purpose of this study is to find the effects of the portfolio assessment on elementary students` scientific knowledge, inquiry process skill, scientific attitudes in the teaching of science. And finally the parents` response to the portfolio assessment is also investigated. In order to reach the goal of this study, the investigator developed the evaluation instrument such as an experimental report and a cumulative observation sheet for the 4th-grade Unit-1 `Light Propagation` and Unit-3 `Separating Mixtures`, and then these were administered to 42 4th-grade elementary students in Inchon. Based upon the findings and within the limitations of this study, several conclusions can be drawn regarding the problems investigated. First, as the portfolio assessment offers enough information about individual student`s performance, it has a highly positive effect on evaluating the students` scientific knowledges. It can also make possible to grasp the several aspects of the student`s progress. Second, the portfolio assessment can be implemented without giving students any psychological pressure from testing itself. Therefore, the portfolio assessment is an effective means of appraising inquiry process skills. Third, the portfolio assessment is effective to evaluate the students` attitude toward science by means of individual records which include such aspects that is hardly found by the teacher who teaches science in the class. Fourth, as most parents showed a positive response to this portfolio assessment, it is considered to be effective method of appraising the result of teaching science at elementary school. Accordingly, this study demonstrated that the portfolio assessment is an effective method that can assess students` scientific knowledges, inquiry process skills, and scientific attitudes gained from science teaching-learning. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the portfolio assessment to other grade students as well in the following study where teacher may give more encouragements and suggestions to students for the better learning motives. Also teachers should suggest more definite evaluation criteria to students so that they may improve the students` self and peer evaluation skills.

Conclusion: Routine axillary scanning during screening breast US had no effect on additional cancer detection, but rather increased the number of false-positive results. However, the conclusions based on these findings must be tempered by the low rate of positive findings. (C) RSNA, 2017
