      • Prognostic Role of Hepatoma-derived Growth Factor in Solid Tumors of Eastern Asia: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) is a novel jack-of-all-trades in cancer. Here we quantify the prognostic impact of this biomarker and assess how consistent is its expression in solid tumors. A comprehensive search strategy was used to search relevant literature updated on October 3, 2014 in PubMed, EMBASE and WEB of Science. Correlations between HDGF expression and clinicopathological features or cancer prognosis was analyzed. All pooled HRs or ORs were derived from random-effects models. Twenty-six studies, primarily in Eastern Asia, covering 2,803 patients were included in the analysis, all of them published during the past decade. We found that HDGF overexpression was significantly associated with overall survival (OS) ($HR_{OS}=2.35$, 95%CI=2.04-2.71, p<0.001) and disease free survival (DFS) ($HR_{DFS}=2.25$, 95%CI =1.81-2.79, p<0.001) in solid tumors, especially in non-small cell lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Moreover, multivariate survival analysis showed that HDGF overexpression was an independent predictor of poor prognosis ($HR_{OS}=2.41$, 95%CI: 2.02-2.81, p<0.001; $HR_{DFS}=2.39$, 95%CI: 1.77-3.24, p<0.001). In addition, HDGF overexpression was significantly associated with tumor category (T3-4 versus T1-2, OR=2.12, 95%CI: 1.17-3.83, p=0.013) and lymph node status (N+ versus N-, OR=2.37, 95%CI: 1.31-4.29, p=0.03) in CCA. This study provides a comprehensive examination of the literature available on the association of HDGF overexpression with OS, DFS and some clinicopathological features in solid tumors. Meta-analysis results provide evidence that HDGF may be a new indicator of poor cancer prognosis. Considering the limitations of the eligible studies, other large-scale prospective trials must be conducted to clarify the prognostic value of HDGF in predicting cancer survival.

        Machining model of position-attitude in Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF) of high-precision off-axis aspheric optical elements

        Two machining position-attitude model including Parent mirror Coordinate Position-Attitude Model (PCPAM) and Child mirror Coordinate Position-Attitude Model (CCPAM) are proposed for the fabrication of off-axis aspheric based on the manufacturing characteristics of off-axis aspheric and Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF) technology. The machining ability, machining difficulty and machining accuracy of the two models are researched theoretically, and the simulated results of an off-axis mirror demonstrate that CCPAM is better than PCPAM over all those three aspects. An off-axis aspheric which has the same parameters as simulated was figured by MRF and the final accuracy is 14 nm RMS after two runs costing about 9 hours. The experiment testified the validity of CCPAM in the MRF process of off-axis aspheric, and indicates that more benefit can be obtained when CCPAM is adopted to manufacture an off-axis aspheric in MRF.

        This paper deals with a new two dimensional clinometer based on dual axis micromachined accelerometers. The clinometer is a small and low-cost product, which is mainly developed to help golfers read easily the tilt of a putting green. First, this paper proposes the principle of two dimensional clinometer and also a calibration method with respect to the offset voltage and sensitivity of a accelerometer. Experimental results on the developed clinometer show that the proposed clinometer can provide useful information on the tilt angle and direction of an inclined plane.

        This paper deals with a novel autocalibration method of three-axis micromachined accelerometers applied to a new digital intelligent putter for golfers. This putter can help golfers monitor and analyze their putting posture and therefore modify their putting action to get better score and enjoy their lives through golf. The micromachined accelerometers to get information of the motion are the essential part of the putter to measure the three-axis acceleration as accurately as possible. This paper presents an efficient autocalibration algorithm to find the offset and sensitivity of accelerometers by only using the static measurement data at six different positions. The experimental results on the developed putters show the validity of the proposed algorithm for the new smart putter.

        Increasing the Productivity of TNFR-Fc in GS-CHO Cells at Reduced Culture Temperatures

        In an effort to improve TNFR-Fc production in GS-CHO cells, batch cultures were performed to investigate the effects of low culture temperature on TNFR-Fc production. It was observed that low culture temperatures resulted in cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase, led to suppressed cell growth, and prolonged the culture period. Although the highest TNFR-Fc concentration was achieved with a culture temperature of 32°C at 247.4 mg/L, the maximum q_(TNFR-Fc) of 15.7 pg/cells/day was achieved at 30°C. Because the inhibition effect on cell growth at 30°C compromised its beneficial effects specifically to TNFR-Fc productivity, TNFR-Fc concentration at this temperature was not significantly increased. Furthermore, the increase in productivity of specific TNFR-Fc at low culture temperatures was also found to be due to an increase in the transcriptional level of the TNFR-Fc gene, determined by RT-PCR analysis. In addition, low culture temperatures had no significant effect on the degree of sialylation of TNFRFc. Taken together; a biphasic cultivation process developed in a fed-batch mode with a low temperature-production phase enhanced TNFR-Fc production by GS-CHO cells and therefore offers major potential for bioprocess optimization.

        QoE-driven Joint Resource Allocation and User-paring in Virtual MIMO SC-FDMA Systems

        This paper is concerned with the problem of joint resource allocation and user-pairing in virtual MIMO SC-FDMA systems to improve service quality of experience (QoE). No-reference logarithmic model is introduced to quantify service experience for each user and the objective is to maximize sum of all user`s mean of score (MOS). We firstly formulate the optimal problem into an S-dimensional (S-D) assignment problem. Then, to solve this problem, the modified Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is deduced to obtain the suboptimal result of joint user-paring and subchannel allocation. The merits of this solution are as follows. First, the gap between its results and the global optimal one can be quantified and controlled by balancing the complexity and accuracy, which merit the other suboptimal algorithms do not have. Secondly, it has the polynomial computational complexity and the worst case complexity is O(3LN<sup>3</sup>), where L is the maximum iteration time and N is the number of subchannels. Simulations also prove that our proposed algorithm can effectively improve quality of experience and the gap between our proposed and the optimal algorithms can be controlled below 8%.
