Comprehensive Model of Sustainable Production Development through a Transition from Industrial Production Towards Ecological Production

Shariat, Mohammad ali,Iranzadeh, Soleyman,Zendeh, Alireza Bafandeh Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2017 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.16 No.4

In recent decades, there has been substantial environmental pressure on manufacturing companies for predict the economic benefits of their processes and products and assessing the environmental and social effects of their performance. As a result, promotion of production processes and products by preserving the social, economic, and environmental benefits has become one of the objectives of most companies. This demand has also directly pursued by customers who wish their products to be built in a sustainable manner. Therefore, this has caused manufacturing companies around the world face a new challenge of maintaining their competitive position in the market by developing and implementing sustainable production practices and tools and pursue sustainable development aiming at social, economic, and environmental issues in the process of development. The concept of sustainable production, closely associated with sustainable development, was firstly proposed in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992. In this conference, it was concluded that the main cause of environmental destruction is the unsustainable pattern of production and consumption, especially in industrial countries. Whereas sustainable consumption is targeted at consumers, sustainable production deals with companies and organizations producing goods or providing services. Focusing on business sustainability, the present paper aimed to identify dimensions of sustainable production with an ecological approach from the perspective of managers of successful industrial companies in Semnan Province, Iran and then propose a model of sustainable production. To this end, 33 successful managers in this province with at least 5 years of continuous activity were interviewed using the repertory grid technique and 33 personal repertory grids were developed. In addition, a total of 175 initial personal constructs of sustainable production were identified. Finally, through the analysis of these constructs, the collective grid of sustainable production consisting of 87 secondary constructs in 11 sections was plotted. These constructs were analyzed and classified using cluster analysis in SPSS and finally a model of sustainable production with 11 pillars and 87 constructs in 4 sections was developed.

      • Functionally graded shape memory alloys: Design, fabrication and experimental evaluation

        Shariat, Bashir S.,Meng, Qinglin,Mahmud, Abdus S.,Wu, Zhigang,Bakhtiari, Reza,Zhang, Junsong,Motazedian, Fakhrodin,Yang, Hong,Rio, Gerard,Nam, Tae-hyun,Liu, Yinong Elsevier 2017 Materials & Design Vol.124 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Functionally graded shape memory alloys have the advantage of combining the functionalities of the shape memory effect and those of functionally graded structures. By proper design, they can exhibit new and complex deformation behaviour that is unmatched in uniform shape memory alloys. One obvious advantage of functionally graded shape memory alloys is their widened transformation stress and temperature windows that provide improved controllability in actuating applications. This paper reports on the concept, fabrication, experimentation and thermomechanical behaviour of several designs of functionally graded NiTi alloys, including compositionally graded, microstructurally graded and geometrically graded NiTi alloys, and the various techniques that may be used to create these functionally graded materials. It is found that the property gradients created along the loading direction or perpendicular to the loading direction produce distinct thermomechanical behaviours. The property gradient along the loading direction provides stress gradient over stress-induced transformation, which can be adjusted by the property gradient profile. The property gradient through the thickness direction of plate specimens and perpendicular to the loading direction provides four-way shape memory behaviour during stress-free thermal cycling after tensile deformation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Functionally graded shape memory alloys provide widened transformation stress and temperature windows in actuation application. </LI> <LI> The property gradient was achieved in three ways: microstructural gradient, compositional gradient and geometrical gradient. </LI> <LI> Property gradients created along the loading direction or perpendicular to that direction produce distinct thermomechanical behaviours. </LI> <LI> A variety of techniques has been proposed for fabricating functionally graded shape memory alloy structures. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Acute effects of one session dry needling on a chronic golfer’s elbow disability

        Ardalan Shariat,Pardis Noormohammadpour,Amir Hossein Memari,Noureddin Nakhostin Ansari,Joshua A. Cleland,Ramin Kordi 한국운동재활학회 2018 JER Vol.14 No.1

A 40-year-old retired male elite athlete with more than 20 years’ experience in wrestling and bodybuilding with mild elbow pain and disability of 2 years presented to our clinic reporting an acute pain in medial aspect of the elbow. Physical examination revealed symptoms of left Golfer’s elbow during target-directed movements. The results of sonography in left elbow showed low level of hypo echo irregularity and increased blood flow in color Doppler mode in the common flexor origin. The pain amplitude was moderate at rest and extremely high during kinetic and intentional movements. During last 2 years, the patient tried different types of therapy including manual therapy, Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and also received a variety of injections none of which were effective for reducing pain and disability. This is the first study showed that one sessions of dry needling improved both pain and disability and helped to return to a normal life and exercise training.

Computational Lagrangian Multiplier Method by using for optimization and sensitivity analysis of rectangular reinforced concrete beams

        Mehran Shariat,Mahdi Shariati,Amirhossein Madadi,Karzan Wakil 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.29 No.2

This study conducts an optimization and sensitivity analysis on rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) beam using Lagrangian Multiplier Method (LMM) as programming optimization computer soft ware. The analysis is conducted to obtain the minimum design cost for both singly and doubly RC beams according to the specifications of three regulations of American concrete institute (ACI), British regulation (BS), and Iranian concrete regulation (ICS). Moreover, a sensitivity analysis on cost is performed with respect to the effective parameters such as length, width, and depth of beam, and area of reinforcement. Accordingly, various curves are developed to be feasibly utilized in design of RC beams. Numerical examples are also represented to better illustrate the design steps. The results indicate that instead of complex optimization relationships, the LMM can be used to minimize the cost of singly and doubly reinforced beams with different boundary conditions. The results of the sensitivity analysis on LMM indicate that each regulation can provide the most optimal values at specific situations. Therefore, using the graphs proposed for different design conditions can effectively help the designer (without necessity of primary optimization knowledge) choose the best regulation and values of design parameters.

Designing Large-Scale Disaster Response Routes Network in Mitigating Earthquake Risk Using a Multi-Objective Stochastic Approach

Afshin Shariat Mohaymany,Nariman Nikoo 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.24 No.10

The disaster response routes play a crucial role in transporting injured people and goods during the 72 golden hours after disaster. These routes connect the major disaster relief centers. Prior identification of the disaster response routes for a city enables the response teams to reach the disaster locations quickly and conduct relief and rescue operations without being obstructed by the outbound flow of evacuees from the city. These routes should not generally be used by the public unlike the evacuation routes. In this paper, a multi-objective stochastic disaster response routes design problem is presented. In this study, with the goal of reducing vulnerability, the disaster response routes network can be protected against disaster scenarios to maintain its connectivity using more independent routes. An exact approach including a bounded objective function method for considering the multi-objective functions, including the network factors (OD connectivity, vulnerability, and management) and an exact method (branch-and-cut) for solving the proposed model are suggested. The results for Sioux-Falls and Tehran networks show the effectiveness of the model.

Predictive Factors for Outcomes of Overcorrection Nighttime Bracing in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Systematic Review

        Moradi Vahideh,Babaee Taher,Shariat Ardalan,Khosravi Mobina,Saeedi Marjan,Parent-Nichols Jennifer,Cleland Joshua Alan 대한척추외과학회 2022 Asian Spine Journal Vol.16 No.4

Predictive clinical and radiological factors can potentially identify adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) most likely to benefit from overcorrection nighttime bracing. These factors can provide helpful information in clinical decision making. However, the relationship between these factors and outcomes of overcorrection nighttime bracing is unclear. This systematic review determined the predictive factors for identifying outcomes of overcorrection nighttime bracing in AIS. A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, and Embase from January 1986 to January 2021. Studies on AIS patients, aged 10–18 years, with a Risser sign of 0–2 and an initial Cobb angle of 20°–45°, who were treated with overcorrection nighttime bracing and for whom at least one predictive factor of treatment outcome (failure and/or success) was assessed were included. Two blinded reviewers independently evaluated the studies using a quality assessment tool. To determine predictive factors, the level of evidence was rated through best-evidence synthesis. A total of nine studies met the inclusion criteria. A Providence brace was used in six of the included studies, while a Charleston bending brace was used in three. Findings from two high-quality studies provided strong evidence of the association between curve flexibility and brace treatment success. In terms of the Risser sign, this evidence was obtained from three high-quality studies. Moderate evidence indicated a positive association between premenarchal status and nighttime bracing failure. Inconclusive evidence indicated that poor brace compliance is associated with treatment failure. Conflicting evidence of treatment failure was indicated for initial curve magnitude, curve type, in-brace correction, age, Risser sign, curve apex, and sex. These findings show that greater curve flexibility and a higher Risser sign are associated with overcorrection nighttime bracing success.
