The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 8 weeks of gluteus medius strengthening exercise on back pain, balance, and back strength of female office workers with low back pain. The participants of this study were female office workers, 30 to 48 years old and had low back pain at a VAS of 3 to 7. Twenty-six participants were randomly assigned to exercise(n=13) and control(n=13) groups. The study applied gluteus medius strengthening exercise to 13 participants of exercise group for 8 weeks and 3 times a week. The control group were asked to maintain their normal life patterns during the same period of intervention. Data collected from the test were analyzed through repeated two-way ANOVA, paired t-test and independent t-test analysis methods using SPSS(25.0). The analysis showed the following results. First, there has been a significant decrease in the pain level measured by VAS and ODI scores. Second, there was a statistically significant improvement in both static and dynamic balance capabilities. Lastly, the back strength was significantly improved. In conclusion, the gluteus medius strengthening exercise can be expected to be useful as an effective exercise for low back pain.
Activity Probability-Based Performance Analysis and Contention Control for IEEE 802.11 WLANs
Choi, Junsu,Byeon, Seongho,Choi, Sunghyun,Lee, Kwang Bok IEEE Computer Society 2017 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MOBILE COMPUTING Vol.16 No.7

In this paper, we develop a contention window (CW) control scheme for practical IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) that have node heterogeneity in terms of the traffic load, transmission rate, and packet size. We introduce activity probability, i.e., the probability that a node contends for medium access opportunities at a given time. We then newly develop a performance analysis model that enables analytic estimation on the contention status including the collision probability, collision time, back-off time, and throughput with comprehensive consideration of node heterogeneity. Based on the newly developed model, we derive the theoretically ideal contention status, and develop a CW control scheme that achieves the ideal contention status in an average sense. We perform extensive NS-3 simulations and real testbed experiments for evaluation of both the proposed performance analysis model and CW control scheme. The results show that the proposed model provides accurate prediction on the contention status, and the proposed CW control scheme achieves considerable throughput improvement compared to the existing schemes which do not comprehensively consider node heterogeneity.

In this paper, we propose a novel video question answering (Video QA) task, DramaQA, for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of a video story. The DramaQA focuses on two perspectives: 1) hierarchical QAs as an evaluation metric based on the cognitive developmental stages of human intelligence, and 2) character-centered video annotations to model the local coherence of the story. Our dataset is built upon the TV drama “Another Miss Oh” and contains 16,191 QA pairs from 23,928 video clips of various lengths, with each QA pair belonging to one of four difficulty levels. We provide a total of 217,308 annotated images with rich character-centered visual annotations and coreference resolved scripts. In addition, we provide analyses of the dataset as well as a Dual Matching Multistream model which effectively learns character-centered representations of the video to answer questions about the video.

Recent trends of research & development for Vehicular Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) are focused on the NVH as well as braking/traction performance. For the conventional systems, we used On-Off control strategy, which is composed of pulse-up pressure rise, pressure dump and pressure hold mode. The main problems associated with the discrete (On-Oft) nature of this control are severe noise and vibration. Especially, among the three pressure modes of conventional control, the pressure pulse-up is the major source of noise and vibration. To reduce pulse-up noise & vibration of ABS, we introduce Linear Flow Control (LFC) concept, which allows continuous pressure rise mode instead of pressure pulse-up. Continuous pressure rise can be obtained by controlling the magnetic force of solenoid valve, which needs current control of the solenoid valve. In this regard, we proposed using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) method to control the current and to compensate for the discrete nature of actuator dynamics by duty control. Another source of noise and pedal kickback during ABS action is excessive pumping of brake fluid caused by unnecessarily high motor speed. Because the level of noise and vibration caused by the motor is directly related with the motor speed, we introduced a new Motor Speed Control (MSC) method that could compromise pumping performance and noise. Our new concept ABS also archives better performance in stopping distance compared with conventional control method by reducing average pressure dump and maintaining optimal slip band. In this paper, we will present recent results of LFC & MSC for our new generation ABS in the view of performance and NVH.
