X-ray/gamma radiation shielding properties of Aluminium-Barium Zinc Oxide nanoparticles synthesized via low temperature solution combustion method

        Sathish K.V.,Sridhar K.N.,Seenappa L.,Manjunatha H.C.,Vidya Y.S.,Chinnappa Reddy B.,Manjunatha S.,Santhosh A.N.,Munirathnam R.,Raj Alfred Cecil,Damodara Gupta P.S.,Sankarshan B.M. 한국원자력학회 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.5

For the first time Aluminium-BariumeZinc oxide nanocomposite (ZABONC) was synthesized by solution combustion method where calcination was carried out at low temperatures (6000 C) to study the electromagnetic (EM) (X/g) radiation shielding properties. Further for characterization purpose standard techniques like PXRD, SEM, UV-VISIBLE, FTIR were used to find phase purity, functional groups, surface morphology, and to do structural analysis and energy band gap determination. The PXRD pattern shows (hkl) planes corresponding to spinel cubic phase of ZnAl2O4, cubic BaðNO3Þ2, a and g phase of Al2O3 which clearly confirms the formation of complex nano composite. From SEM histogram mean size of nano particles was calculated and is in the order of 17 nm. Wood and Tauc’s relation direct energy band gap calculation gives energy gap of 2.9 eV. In addition, EM (X/g) shielding properties were measured and compared with the theoretical ones using standard procedures (NaI (Tl) detector and multi channel analyzer MCA). For energy above 356 keV the measured shielding parameters agree well with the theory, while below this value slight deviation is observed, due to the influence of atomic/crystallite size of the ZABONC. Hence synthesized ZABONC can be used as a shielding material in EM (X/g) radiation shielding

Analysis of material dependency in an elastic - plastic contact models using contact mechanics approach

        V.C. Sathish Gandhi,R. Kumaravelan,S. Ramesh,K. Sriram 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.53 No.5

The study aims on the effect of material dependency in elastic- plastic contact models by contact analysis of sphere and flat contact model and wheel rail contact model by considering the material propertieswithout friction. The various materials are selected for the analysis based on Young‟s modulus and yield strength ratio (E/Y). The simulation software „ANSYS‟ is employed for this study. The sphere and flat contact model is considered as a flattening model, the stress and strain for different materials are estimated. The simulation of wheel-rail contact model is also performed and the results are compared with the flattening model. The comparative study has also been extended for finding out the mean contact pressurefor different materials the E/Y values between 150 and 660. The results show that the elastic-plastic contact analysis for materials up to E/Y=296.6 is depend on the nature of material properties and also for this material the mean contact pressure to yield strength reaches 2.65.

Development and standardization of a monoclonal antibody-based rapid flow-through immunoassay for the detection of Aphanomyces invadans in the field

        B. Adil,K. M. Shankar,B. T. Naveen Kumar,Rajreddy Patil,Abhiman Ballyaya,K. S. Ramesh,Sathish Rama Poojary,Omkar V. Byadgi,Prabhugouda Siriyappagouder 대한수의학회 2013 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.14 No.4

A monoclonal antibody-based flow-through immunoassay (FTA) was developed using a nitrocellulose membrane placed on the top of adsorbent pads enclosed in a plastic cassette with a test zone at the center. The FTA could be completed within 10 min. Clear purple dots against a white background indicated the presence of Aphanomyces (A.)invadans. The FTA limit of detection was 7 μg/mL for A. invadans compared to 56 μg/mL for the immunodot. FTA and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) could detect A. invadans in fish tissue homogenates at a 10-11 dilution compared to a 10-8 dilution by immunodot. In fish suffering from natural cases of epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS)collected from Mangalore, India, FTA and PCR could detect A. invadans in 100% of the samples compared to 89.04%detected by immunodot. FTA reagents were stable and produced expected results for 4 months when stored at 4∼8oC. This rapid test could serve as simple and cost-effective on-site screening tool to detect A. invadans in fish from EUS outbreak areas and in ports during the shipment of live or frozen fish.

Dynamic stiffness based computation of response for framed machine foundations

        Lakshmanan, N.,Gopalakrishnan, N.,Rama Rao, G.V.,Sathish kumar, K. Techno-Press 2009 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.1 No.2

The paper deals with the applications of spectral finite element method to the dynamic analysis of framed foundations supporting high speed machines. Comparative performance of approximate dynamic stiffness methods formulated using static stiffness and lumped or consistent or average mass matrices with the exact spectral finite element for a three dimensional Euler-Bernoulli beam element is presented. The convergence of response computed using mode superposition method with the appropriate dynamic stiffness method as the number of modes increase is illustrated. Frequency proportional discretisation level required for mode superposition and approximate dynamic stiffness methods is outlined. It is reiterated that the results of exact dynamic stiffness method are invariant with reference to the discretisation level. The Eigen-frequencies of the system are evaluated using William-Wittrick algorithm and Sturm number generation in the $LDL^T$ decomposition of the real part of the dynamic stiffness matrix, as they cannot be explicitly evaluated. Major's method for dynamic analysis of machine supporting structures is modified and the plane frames are replaced with springs of exact dynamic stiffness and dynamically flexible longitudinal frames. Results of the analysis are compared with exact values. The possible simplifications that could be introduced for a typical machine induced excitation on a framed structure are illustrated and the developed program is modified to account for dynamic constraint equations with a master slave degree of freedom (DOF) option.

X-ray / gamma ray radiation shielding properties of a-Bi 2 O 3 synthesized by low temperature solution combustion method

        B. Chinnappa Reddy,H.C. Manjunatha,Y.S. Vidya,K.N. Sridhar,U. Mahaboob Pasha,L. Seenappa,B. Sadashivamurthy,N. Dhananjaya,K.V. Sathish,P.S. Damodara Gupta 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.3

In the present communication, pure and stable a-Bismuth Oxide (Bi2O3) nanoparticles (NPs) weresynthesized by low temperature solution combustion method using urea as a fuel and calcined at 500oC. The synthesized sample was characterized by using powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM),Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and UVeVisible absorption spectroscopy. The PXRDpattern confirms the formation of mono-clinic, stable and low temperature phase a-Bi2O3. The directoptical energy band gap was estimated by usingWood and Tauc's relation which was found to be 2.81 eV. The characterized sample was studied for X-ray/gamma ray shielding properties in the energy range0.081e1.332 MeV using NaI (Tl) detector and multi channel analyzer (MCA). The measured shieldingparameters agrees well with the theory, whereas, slight deviation up to 20% is observed below 356 keV. This deviation is mainly due to the influence of atomic size of the target medium. Furthermore an accuratetheory is necessary to explain the interaction of X-ray/gamma ray with the NPs.The present workopens new window to use this facile, economical, efficient, low temperature method to synthesizenanomaterials for X-ray/gamma ray shielding purpose
