        Effect of Abalone Hydrolysates Encapsulated by Double Emulsion on the Physicochemical and Sensorial Properties of Fresh Cheese

        The intake of dietary salt through food now exceeds current nutritional recommendations and is thought to have negative effects on human health, such as the increasing prevalence of hypertension. This study was performed to investigate whether W1/O/W2 double emulsions can be used to enhance the saltiness of cheese without increasing the salt content (W1 is distilled water or 1% abalone hydrolysate, and W2 is 1% NaCl or 1% abalone hydrolysate + 1% NaCl solution). We also investigated the effect of adding abalone hydrolysate to the double emulsion as a saltiness enhancer. The cheeses were physico-chemically evaluated to determine curd yield, pH value, moisture content, color, texture, salt release rate, and sensory properties. No significant differences were observed in curd yield, pH value, moisture content, lightness, or redness between the cheeses made with and without the double emulsion. However, in the evaluation of salt release rate, fresh cheese made with double emulsion (W1 = dis-tilled water, W2 = 1% NaCl + 1% abalone hydrolysate) was detected earlier than the control or the other treatments. In the sensory evaluation, fresh cheese made with the double emulsion showed higher scores for saltiness and overall preference than the control or the other treatments. We concluded that abalone hydrolysate encapsulated in a double emulsion (W1 is water and W2 is abalone hydrolysate and NaCl solution) could enhance the saltiness of fresh cheese while maintaining the same salt concentration, without altering its physical properties.

        Impact of Autoverification in the Hematology Laboratory: Experience with LimasVfy

        Background: The aim of our study is to examine the performance of an algorithm used by autoverification middleware (LimasVfy; Hwasan System, Korea) in the diagnostic hematology laboratory of a single tertiary hospital in Korea. Methods: In this study, we included manually verified complete blood count (CBC) results from June 2019 to January 2020, as well as CBC results from February 2020 to September 2021 that underwent both autoverification and manual verification. The autoverification rates and turnaround time (TAT) of both datasets were compared, thereby obtaining an effective comparison between the period before and after the introduction of the autoverification system. Results: After introducing autoverification, the rates of autoverification and manual verification were 64.6% and 35.4%, respectively. Of the manually verified cases, those with delta check, panic value, flags, and critical values were 46.4%, 28.2%, 19.8%, and 5.6%, respectively. After the autoverification rule related to platelet count was modified in August 2020, the rate slightly increased from 63.9% to 64.8%, and critical value reporting rates decreased from 26.8% to 2.4%. Prior to autoverification, the median time from reception to production of results/from production of results to final reports was 9.6/35.1 minutes. After introducing autoverification, it was 10.0/39.9 minutes in manually verified cases and 3.2/0.0 minutes in autoverified cases. Total time, that is the product of total number of cases and average TAT, decreased from 350,000 to 200,000 minutes. Rate of excess TAT also decreased from 0.065% to 0.045%. Conclusions: LimasVfy would be a useful tool in reducing TAT and verification workload in the CBC testing, and this study can provide useful information in determining the introduction of autoverification systems in the setting of diagnostic hematology.

        의미범주기반 작업기억 중재가 실어증환자의 문장이해 및 단어유창성에 미치는 일반화 효과

        본 연구는 실어증환자를 대상으로 의미범주기반 작업기억 중재를 실시하여 작업기억과 문장이해 및 단어유창성으로의 일반화 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 실어증환자는 뇌손상으로 인해 인지 및 언어장애가 나타나며, 작업기억은 언어 및 인지 관련 과제를 처리하는 데 있어 정보를 유지하는 동시에 정보의 조작 및 수행에 관여하는 근본적인 기제로 연구되어 왔다. 이에 본 연구는 이러한 작업기억이론에 근거하여 의미범주기반 작업기억 중재를 개발하여 그 효과를 검증하고자 한다. 방법: 실어증환자 7명을 대상으로 6-8주에 걸쳐서 주 2-3회 중재를 실시하였고, 사전•사후 평가를 포함하여 총 16회기 동안 진행되었다. 의미범주기반 작업기억 중재는 특정 작업기억 과제를 반복하는 동안 순차적으로 단서가 제공되는 중재 프로토콜이다. 결과: 중재 작업기억 과제의 단어폭이 통계적으로 유의한 증가를 보였고, 비중재 작업기억 과제에서는 단어 바로 따라말하기 과제에서만 유의한 증가를 보였다. 문장이해과제 정확도와 단어유창성 과제 중 동물 범주유창성 과제에서 유의미한 증가를 보였다. 논의 및 결론: 의미범주기반 작업기억 중재가 비중재 작업기억 과제와 음소유창성 과제로의 일반화 효과는 제한적이었으나 중재 작업기억 과제와 문장이해, 범주유창성 과제로의 중재 및 일반화 효과를 나타냈다. 의미범주기반 작업기억 중재는 실어증의 근본적인 기제와 관련된 인지과정인 작업기억을 촉진하여 언어능력으로 확장하는 중재기법으로 다양한 유형의 실어증환자를 대상으로 작업기억뿐 아니라 언어능력의 향상을 가져올 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the generalization effect of semantic category-based working memory (SCWM) treatment on sentence comprehension and word fluency in persons with aphasia. It was predicted that SCWM treatment would en¬hance working memory capacity and increase sentence comprehension ability and word fluency in patients with aphasia. Methods: Seven Korean individuals with mild to moder¬ate aphasia caused by left hemisphere stroke participated in this study. The interventions were provided in 16 sessions, approximately half an hour per day 2 to 3 times a week. Treat¬ment protocol consisted of an SCWM span task and 4 cues: telling a word list to the partici¬pants, showing the participants category cards, showing the participants random word cards, and asking the participants to match category and word cards. A pretest-posttest design was used. Pre-post comparisons were analyzed with the Wilcoxon signed-ranks test. Results: There were significant score increases in the SCWM span task. Furthermore, the SCWM treatment effects were generalized to sentence comprehension ability, categor¬ical word fluency, and working memory span with word forward repetition tasks. Conclu¬sion: The current study suggests that SCWM treatment is effective in enhancing working memory capacity for people with aphasia. Furthermore, the treatment effects were gener¬alized to sentence comprehension ability and categorical word fluency in these patients. The results indicate that working memory is an underlying mechanism associated with sentence comprehension and categorical word fluency and is a critical factor to be consid¬ered in language treatment for persons with aphasia.

        Chemically Robust Superhydrophobic Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Films with Grafting Crosslinkable Fluorinated Silane

        A superhydrophobic surface with excellent chemical stability was fabricated using the spraying method, one of the most efficient technologies for producing large-area coatings at low cost. Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) was used as a hydrophobic polymer material, and heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2,-tetra-hydrodecyl)trichlorosilane (FTS), which reacts with moisture during curing, was used to improve the water repellency and durability. Spray coating of PVDF alone yielded PVDF nanostructures described by the Cassie-Baxter model. The water contact angle of a water droplet on this surface, however, was <TEX>$128^{\circ}$</TEX>, indicating that the surface was not superhydrophobic. On the other hand, spray-coating a mixed PVDF-FTS solution provided a complex and homogeneous nanostructured surface with excellent water repellency and a contact angle of up to <TEX>$159^{\circ}$</TEX>. Immersion of the PVDF-only film for 20 min in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), a good solvent for PVDF, led to complete dissolution of the film. By contrast, the PVDF-FTS film maintained its superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of <TEX>$151^{\circ}$</TEX> after 20 min of immersion in DMF, and still exhibited a high contact angle of <TEX>$142^{\circ}$</TEX> after 1 h. The PVDF-FTS film developed in the present work should enable the production of large-area superhydrophobic coatings at low cost using a simple spray process. Moreover, the PVDF-FTS film displayed excellent stability against solvents, thus increasing its suitability for robust superhydrophobic applications.

      • Investigation of the Stability via Shadowing Property

        <P>The shadowing property is to find an exact solution to an iterated map that remains close to an approximate solution. In this article, using shadowing property, we show the stability of the following equation in normed group: 4n-2Cn/2-1r2f(∑j=1n(xj/r))+n∑ik∈{0,1}, ∑k=1nik=n/2r2f(∑i=1n(-1)ik(xi/r))=4n⋅n-2Cn/2-1∑i=1nf(xi), where n≥2, r∈R  (r2≠n) and f is a mapping. And we prove that the even mapping which satisfies the above equation is quadratic and also the Hyers-Ulam stability of the functional equation in Banach spaces.</P>

      • 자폐스펙트럼장애를 가진 청소년을 위한 챗봇 기반의 자기 관리 프로그램 개발 연구

        본 연구에서는 자폐스펙트럼장애 청소년이 사춘기에 나타나는 변화에 효과적으로 대응하기 위한 방안으로 제시되는 자기관리전략을 스마트폰 기반의 챗봇프로그램으로 구현하고, 챗봇 제작을 위한 디자인 고려사항 제시를 목표로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 5 명의 자폐스펙트럼장애 청소년, 5 명의 보호자, 4 명의 전문가를 대상으로 제작한 챗봇 프로토타입에 대한 그룹 인터뷰를 진행하고, 자폐스펙트럼장애 청소년이 일주일간 챗봇 프로토타입을 사용하는 파일럿 스터디를 진행하였다. 본 연구를 통해 챗봇프로토타입은 위생 및 용모 관리, 사회적 기술 훈련, 목소리 조절 등의 다양한 행동 영역에서 자폐스펙트럼장애 청소년의 자기관리능력을 증진할 수 있으며, 자녀-보호자 간의 의사소통을 촉진하는데 기여할 수 있다는 점을 확인하였다.

        Nonequilibrium critical dynamics of the ferromagnetic Ising chain subject to slow cooling: Kawasaki’s spin-exchange kinetics

        We numerically investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of the kinetic Ising chain under slow cooling to zero temperature, employing a spin-exchange kinetics that conserves the order parameter. We focus on a logarithmic cooling protocol with a tuning parameter. Applying the Kibble–Zurek mechanism to the considered cooling protocol, we derive the common expressions for the growing length and timescales with cooling, which holds for both the spin-fip and spin-exchange kinetics. The dynamic scaling behaviors of the excess defect density and spin correlation function indicate that the nonequilibrium dynamics is governed by the time and length scales that are in agreement with the predictions of the Kibble–Zurek mechanism. We fnd that the equal-time spatial spin correlation function at zero temperature exhibits a universal power law decay at long distance. At variance with an interesting possibility recently raised for the present system, no new length scale is found that is distinct from the Kibble–Zurek one. The measured correlation length exhibits an extraordinarily rapid growth process during the cooling down to zero temperature after the onset of nonequilibrium regime.

      • Dense Assembly of Soluble Acene Crystal Ribbons and Its Application to Organic Transistors

        <P>The preparation of uniform large-area highly crystalline organic semiconductor single crystals remains a challenge in the field of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Crystal densities in the channel regions of OFETs have not yet reached sufficiently high values to provide efficient charge transport, and improving channel crystal densities remains an important research area. Herein we fabricated densely well-aligned single crystal arrays of the 6,13bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)pentacene (TIPS_PEN) semiconductor using a straightforward scooping-up (SU) methodology to quickly produce a large-area self-assembled semiconductor crystal layer. The resulting crystalline TIPS_PEN strip arrays obtained using the SU method revealed a packing density that was 2.76 times the value obtained from the dip-coated channel, and the mean interspatial distance between the crystal strips decreased from 21.5 to 7.8 yin: The higher crystal packing density provided efficient charge transport in the FET devices and directly yielded field-effed mobilities as high as 2.16 cm(2)/(V s). These field-effect mobilities were more than three times the values obtained from the OFETs prepared using dip-coated channels. Furthermore, the contact resistance between the source/drain electrodes and the TIPS_PEN crystals decreased by a factor of 2. These contributions represent a significant step forward in improving semiconductor crystal alignment for the fabrication of large-area high-performance organic electronics.</P>
